Good morning to all the night owls
I m late waking this morning and seem to have missed my
3 am slot however 4.30 am will do ( 4 and a half hours is positively a very long sleep for me) who knows I might even drop of again for a doze before I get up at 6 ready for some work
So who s around ?

grandMattie Thu 22-Jan-26 04:19:12

Topsy, I don’t think there is any merit in being in pain, but then I’m disgustingly healthy. Hope get comfy and manage to have a few more 💤

I’m so very glad you have an appointment for your hip. 🤞that it goes ahead without a hitch.

Nannytopsy Thu 22-Jan-26 03:53:39

Morning grandMattie! I was brave last night and didn’t take painkillers. That was a mistake! Never mind, I’m getting a new hip a week tomorrow, so this won’t happen for much longer.
I’m on duty at the charity cafe tomorrow so I need to be out early.
I will try to get comfortable …

grandMattie Thu 22-Jan-26 03:47:57

Awake! I suppose 4.5 hours is ok, but when the night ends now, it makes for a long day…

Sallywally1 Wed 21-Jan-26 05:05:47

I too am awake in the, literally, wee small hours wretched bladder. I also have a very dry mouth and need to clean my teeth. Dentist can’t help. At least I am not in the terrible pain I was was in pre shoulder op. Thank you NHS I owe you one. I just wish I could get back to sleep. I have turned on my heated throw which I love, which May lull me back to sleep.

grandMattie Wed 21-Jan-26 04:46:48

My bladder is remarkably well behaved! Blackout blinds here too. It’s the temperature that seems to help my sleep, but only marginally.
Busy day ahead, no chance of my nap.
Hope you all have managed a reasonable night.

Grammaretto Wed 21-Jan-26 03:07:17

I have blackout blinds in my bedroom but it makes no difference to whether or not I wake. My bladder rules. 😟

Greenfinch Tue 20-Jan-26 23:01:13

It must be our age NanKate. I think we are about the same!😊

NanKate Tue 20-Jan-26 21:53:37

Snap Greenfinch.

I look out of the window in the middle of the night and feel oddly comforted if I see a light on in a neighbour’s house.

Greenfinch Tue 20-Jan-26 19:48:15

I sleep much better during the winter too. It suits my pattern of sleep. I manage about three hours before 3am. Then I am awake for a couple of hours doing Wordle and reading in bed. After that I can usually manage another couple of hours while it is still dark. I can’t do this when the mornings are lighter.

grandMattie Tue 20-Jan-26 19:06:34

I too find the colder nights more conducive to better sleep. I don’t have heating on in my bedroom and sleep literally under a window which is open a crack. I only close it if the wind makes it very draughty or whistles.

JamesandJon33 Tue 20-Jan-26 07:32:35

8 hours last night. I do find I sleep deeper with more dreams during the winter. Is this normal, and do others find the same?

HelterSkelter1 Tue 20-Jan-26 05:58:37

Woken up now again after almost another 3 hours sleep and I need to go downstairs to make a cup of tea and put the food caddy out by the roadside which I forgot to do last night. The general rubbish bin and garden rubbish bin I will ignore this week as they are both almost empty. They can last another fortnight.
I shall have the front door key in my dressing gown pocket. I would hate the door to shut behind me!

grandMattie Tue 20-Jan-26 04:48:16

Not such a bad night, compared to you lot, malthough I have been napping for the last 3 hours.
GAT, was that the Aurora you have seen? I’m so very envious, if it is.
At least, today, I have time for a post prandial nap as I don’t have anything this afternoon.

mum2three Tue 20-Jan-26 04:43:37

Have been lying in bed watching the hands of the clock going round. Decided I may as well get up and actually do something...anything.

GoodAfternoonTea Tue 20-Jan-26 04:31:28

Where I live (down south) we could see the bright effects in the night sky of a geomagnetic storm - pinks, greens, yellows, blues. I wondered why I was so restless last night and have not been able to sleep a wink. I am sure it disturbs sleep in sensitive individuals. Also had a horrible headache yesterday.

Gymstagran Tue 20-Jan-26 04:15:18

I thought i was doing so well! Gradually extending time I stayed asleep till 5 am. Now here I am after waking at 3.30 am again. Mind is in overdrive. I do have a funeral to go to today so maybe thats the cause. Or it could be my inconsiderate upstairs neighbour at 8pm last night telling me she has a delivery due sometime after 7am today . It means I need to remove the ornamental fencing around the path so that it isnt destroyed, it was on a previous delivery. Later text said the delivery would be between 1 and 5pm. Otherwise I woukd have had to be up at 6am to do the necessary in the dark, cold and wet.

BlueBelle Tue 20-Jan-26 03:50:42

I ve had 41/2 hours which is fine for me I might even nod off for another hour
Sounds very still outside, I can’t hear any rain and I feel warm
Just getting over a cold so need a swig of cough medicine I went to buy my favourite Buttercup cough medicine, but was amazed to see it’s now over £8 for a small a sized bottle needless to say I bought a stores own at £3 a bottle !!

My iPad did an update last night and everything looks different now, boo almost like starting again

lemsip Tue 20-Jan-26 03:46:32

well here I am again, haven't been here for a long time but out of the blue wide awake, have been sleeping but became aware I was awake with a song going around in my head and only 3.20am. have made a cup of tea and watched a few 'funny' things on you tube... now trying to 'quieten' myself and go and lay down hoping to get more sleep

rafichagran Tue 20-Jan-26 03:16:00

My brain just won't turn off. I have come downstairs twice now. I am cold, and starting to feel a bit tired. I will go back upstairs and start again.

HelterSkelter1 Tue 20-Jan-26 03:07:21

Well that was a quick Wordle!! My brain is awake as well.

HelterSkelter1 Tue 20-Jan-26 03:03:36

Wide awake but at least it's 3.00 almost and not 1.00 and I haven't been dreaming wildly nor feel chilly.

Wordle and then my book for a while and hopefully I will fall asleep again. Aching legs when I woke so I have had them up against the wall for a few minutes and that seems to have helped.
I hope everyone is sleeping soundly.

Esmay Mon 19-Jan-26 07:02:39

*J52*, please take a whole box of tissues with you when watching “Hamnet”,; I understand that it is the weenie of weepies!

I will, I have read the book some time ago and enjoyed it, although it was sad.

J52 Mon 19-Jan-26 05:41:11

Yes DH will be up soon and the heating has come on.
