Good morning to all the night owls
I m late waking this morning and seem to have missed my
3 am slot however 4.30 am will do ( 4 and a half hours is positively a very long sleep for me) who knows I might even drop of again for a doze before I get up at 6 ready for some work
So who s around ?

grandMattie Thu 20-Nov-25 05:05:34

What language are you studying, susan?

Susan56 Thu 20-Nov-25 04:37:45

Daily duolingo complete. Will try for a couple more hours sleep now🤞🏻

TerriBull Thu 20-Nov-25 04:25:30

Awake! What a pain, I'm going to find something to listen to in the hope it'll send me off. Too cold to have a wander. Good morning, good night all.

grandMattie Thu 20-Nov-25 04:12:09

Good morning. Awake since 3 too. I hunkered down and pretended to sleep…
Just about to get up for my first tib.
The flat is always cosy at this time of day with those wretched night storage heaters. We are not allowed gas in sheltered accommodation!
No idea how cold it is out but probably pretty bad.

Susan56 Thu 20-Nov-25 03:59:50

Cold here too BlueBelle🥶
Someone is trying to make sure they win the local election aren’t they😡hope you get your vote.
Am going to do today’s Duolingo now.I enjoy it but would rather be sleeping!

BlueBelle Thu 20-Nov-25 03:53:05

Morning all it’s sooooo cold here I ve just been to the loo, so wrapped myself in a big furry blanket to get back into bed My weather forecast on my computer says ‘3 degrees but feels like minus 6’ they are not wrong!
I just found out last night we have a local election tomorrow asking a question about who makes decisions about the towns future happenings absolutely no information has been received, no voting card, nothing, I only found out about it on social media, so off with my passport later today and see if I can have a vote. It seems half the town hasn’t had any cards or know about it which is one way to make sure you get no opposition 🤣
Anyway I m off to do my morning sudukos and cuddle down a bit and try and get warm over to you

Esmay Thu 20-Nov-25 03:51:53

Haven't even been to bed !
Wide awake .
I cat napped for short intervals during the day .
It means that I might sleep for longer tomorrow.

JamesandJon33 Thu 20-Nov-25 03:29:44

Same here. Good night Tuesday seven hours straight, now back to waking at 3. I’ll play solitaire for a while then try to sleep again. I wonder if it’s due to the fact that because it was so cold yesterday, I just sat by the fire reading. No real exercise .

Susan56 Thu 20-Nov-25 03:19:36

Snap Roses.Last night was my night to sleep through so for the next few nights I will be awake for a couple of hours from 3ish🙄

RosesandLilac Thu 20-Nov-25 02:53:40

Hi! As usual I’m awake in the middle of the night for no obvious reason 🤷🏼‍♀️!
I seem to have 4 or 5 nights like this followed by sleeping for 9 hours, I never know why I wake up.
There’s very heavy frost on the car, -4° apparently, but I’m cosy in bed.

I have found a downside to being awake at about 4am. In the summer I was reading, and had the light on . At about 4.30 I heard people talking and then someone knocked on the door. I didn't answer but OH saw some people near the back of the car. He opened the window and shouted at them and they disappeared. Another time I heard voices saying "We have come the wrong way, Ali" No attempt to keep their voices down. We have a public footpath going past our house. I thought they might be DOE doing a night map reading trek but a friend who is a DOE examiner said the participants are under strict orders to not disturb anyone. She thought they might be scouts.angry

I have thick fleece trousers (TU PJ's) and one of those ginormas fleeces with a hood and fluffy bootees.

I wear them in bed (minus the bootees and trousers) and they are so warm that I can get up, pop on trousers and bootees, and have a hot milk drink which helps me and refresh a hot water bottle.

(but I do keep the thermostat on at 14 degrees)

Re your comment about work saving on your heating bill..I wonder if all the people who WFH gave that a thought when they decided not to go back to the office.. And now it appears winter’s come early this year we have snow in London already..

Flippinheck Wed 19-Nov-25 18:04:35

Woken up at 2ish by my cat giving me a very angry mouse. Spent half an hour on my hands and knees, freezing and trying to catch the darn thing. Finally gave up and crawled back into bed. Even with the usually reliable help of BBC WS it took me ages to get back to sleep. I already have to visit the loo three or four times every night so I can really do without Mr Cat’s intrusion.
I’ve put down a humane trap this morning so hopefully I can return the poor mouse to somewhere more appropriate.

I go through patches of being awake for hours at night. Like someone else, I have no trouble going to sleep but can’t stay asleep.
I don’t mind getting up, whatever the time, in summer but when it’s cold I try to stay in bed until 5. I don’t ever open my iPad at night.

Two sleeps used to be common in the past . You might find this interesting

I didn’t look at the time when I went to the loo. I managed to go straight back to sleep until just after 8, then snoozed another ten minutes. Bliss!

Humbertbear Wed 19-Nov-25 17:13:05

Wyllow3

4.30 isn't the best time to make sense, I find, ☺️ whether its diverse something or other or anxiety thoughts.

I just want the light to come back, do others find summer better too?

But that was an amusing story!

I love the summer. I just want to be able to put on a t-shirt and shorts every day and take my coffee outside. I’m wearing a vest, jumper and cardigan. It’s only the middle of November and I am already fed up with the cold. We had snow this morning but it didn’t settle and I wore my new winter coat with scarf, hat and gloves. Boring!

BlueBelle Wed 19-Nov-25 17:06:03

3 am or 4 am are definitely my go to times but this morning I overslept till 4.45 never heard of before. 🤣anyway really glad you re all finding the thread useful
See you all early in the morning for a chat x

lemsip Wed 19-Nov-25 16:01:00

I'll reserve my place, seem to be sleeping better at the moment but 3am used to be my wake time

Jaycee19 Wed 19-Nov-25 15:30:47

I always wake at least 3 times a night to go to the loo but it's the 2.30\3 am loo visit that I can not get back to sleep from. I am then awake until around 5 am. I sit and read while my DH sleeps peacefully beside me. On another note I am a chilly mortal so we have individual quilts mines a 13.5 and his is a 4.5 tog so we are both snug for the night.

knspol Wed 19-Nov-25 13:56:51

Woke up at 3.30, went to the bathroom tried tried to get back to sleep but couldn't. Got up about an hour later had a milky drink of decaf coffee and did Squaredle on my phone. Back to bed at around 6 am but still couldn't sleep so read for a while and then got up properly.

I have tinnitus too, and thoughts better sometimes needing distraction, thats why I like the lovely wave sounds I posted a link to above.

I admire those who put on the World Service or similar.!

Esmay Wed 19-Nov-25 10:26:57

I must have woken up at one .
I watched some programmne and drifted off until about five .
It was a better than usual night for me .
I think that background noise helps me to sleep and silence doesn't.
