Good Morning Tuesday 26th May 2026
4.30 isn't the best time to make sense, I find, ☺️ whether its diverse something or other or anxiety thoughts.
I just want the light to come back, do others find summer better too?
But that was an amusing story!
Woke up about 4.30am this morning. Would have drifted back for a couple of hours but I remembered, not for the first time, how Gene Pitney's song, "24 hours from Tulsa" confused me as a schoolgirl. What was a tulsa? I remember discussing this at length with friends. Next line "One day away from your arms" Was that referring to guns because in USA everyone had guns? "Never come home again" Why? The song made no sense.

It’s actually quite comforting to know I’m not alone.
My normal routine is to wake up any time between one and three, maybe wait half an hour in the vain hope that I might drift back off, get up, make a Night time tea, get the fire going again, and curl up with my book
If I didn’t have to be up by 5.45 for work I would embrace it, because I quite enjoy my time. But some days I’m managing on about four hours, and that’s not good
As I have tinnitus and it can be very loud at night, I have classical music on very softly all night. It also helps me not think.
I have stopped worrying about how much I (don’t) sleep, but get very exercised when told re. anything to”get more sleep” 🤬.
I can’t remember the last time I was woke up after 6am despite say, coming home at 2am after a flight or whatever.
If I wake up before 4am, I just listen to the music and “wool gather”. After that, I get up and start the day with a cuppa in bed, read, etc., before showering and dressing by 7am to get my paper.
Can’t believe it. Straight through to 5 this morning. I wonder why?
I was awake but resisted my phone!
Hello!
I don’t want to join your crew but I might if I am awake again, like the last two nights, for two and a half hours after a loo trip. In the end I put the light on and did some word searches, code words etc to stop my mind racing. It worked and I got some more sleep from about 5.30 till 8.30.
Well ‘I never did’ as my mum used to say. I had a decent night’s sleep well for me, just 3 loo trips and straight back to sleep.
I have recently decided to stop worrying about my broken sleep, nothing will change and it is heartening for me to know I am now part of the 3.00 am crew. 👋
I was just arriving home about 3 am after another shift!
Made a cuppa and 2 hot water bottles then crashed to bed!
Just found this thread. I am usually awake at 3am( 2.30 today) having had about 3 hour’s sleep. I read and do Wordle for about an hour and then usually ( but not always) I can sleep/doze for another couple of hours. At about 6am I start catching up with GN and lie comfortably in bed until about 7.30. Not for me the early morning chores!
A good idea for a thread. I was awake in the early hours, but I try to be mindful of not disturbing o/h. I put a ear bud in for a while and was listening to a book on Audible, whenever I do this, I can't recount what I've been listening to, so maybe I was less awake than I thought I was. I can imagine the twilight hours are a good time to be productive, sometimes I lie there thinking about that but generally roll over and conclude even thinking about it makes me tired. Although I imagine I might feel different in summer months, it's so damn cold right now.
I got up at 4.45 and got ready for my swimming class at 8.30. Chopped some veg and put them in slow cooker to make soup at lunchtime. I'm rarely that organised. Also watched an episode of Forsyth Saga whilst having decaff coffee and toast. Good to read these posts from other early birds. DH and I are Mr & Mrs Jack Spratt. He is a night owl and usually sleeps until 9.30ish, he is always cold due to medication and I am always very warm due to etc. Works for us though!
I'm so happy to see this thread. I had a major breakthrough today and slept through until 6.30. Usually I'm awake from 5 but only after several wakings to go to the loo.
I quite like waking early so I can have a cosy read and coffee by the roaring (electric) fire with the cat for company.
I think it would be great to have this thread a constant fixture - other's around in the dark of the night.
How do you manage all that grandMattie!
It’s 2* here too Bridie blooming freezing, I can hear the wind whistling I m downstairs having a coffee and toast by the gas fire till I go off to work at 8 It ll be much warmer at work than in my house 🤣🤣save on the heating bill
Been awake since 4.30, fed the cat, put the birds food out, now on my second cuppa.
Freezing here, 2' brrr 🥶🥶🥶
In Australia it is 5.45 pm. Just getting ready for the evening meal.
I woke up about an hour ago .
I'm coughing a lot !
Everyone on the bus was coughing a great deal yesterday.
Hopefully it will pass with hot drinks.
Anyone like sudokus I do them every day I don’t get up in the night to do anything as I have a cold house ( no central heating) so stay tucked down in my bed with just my arms out holding my iPad 🤣
I wonder what we did before we had phones and iPads, read I suppose I ve had one so long I can’t imagine life without one
According to my temperature on my iPad it’s 2* no wonder my nose feels cold
I have just come down but I have be awake since about 4.45. I stayed in bed and read. Very cold this morning!
4:40 for me. Played Solitaire and Spider on my kindle and have read for a while. DH still asleep but usually wakes around 6 and makes tea.
Good morning. I got up an hour ago, 5:20 now, but have been on Facebook catching up on messages. Then checked the news, nothing dramatic overnight. Sitting here in my fleecy hoodie because it's so cold but don't want to put on the heating just yet.
Me too. Just been downstairs. Unloaded the dishwasher. Refilled my hot water bottle. Made a hot drink. Weak decaff coffee.
Seems very cold out there. I shall watch the next episode of The Crown on my tablet which also needs re charging.
I have stopped worrying about my very early wakings made worse by early dark evenings which send me to bed too early. In fact I almost look forward to waking up and having a little potter. I had a long walk yesterday by the river in a favourite town in glorious sunshine while DH looked after by his carer/companiin so I did think I would sleep longer. But no. Oh well. Glad/sad to hear I am not alone
Me. Been awake for about an hour.
I’ve put the washing in the tumble dryer, had one cuppa, taken my marmalade jars out of their soak - this avoids me having to wash the jars with inevitable drips, and read the news!
The silly thing is that I get to sleep very easily; my problem is staying asleep 💤 …
Good morning to all the night owls
I m late waking this morning and seem to have missed my
3 am slot however 4.30 am will do ( 4 and a half hours is positively a very long sleep for me) who knows I might even drop of again for a doze before I get up at 6 ready for some work
So who s around ?
