Good morning to all the night owls
I m late waking this morning and seem to have missed my
3 am slot however 4.30 am will do ( 4 and a half hours is positively a very long sleep for me) who knows I might even drop of again for a doze before I get up at 6 ready for some work
So who s around ?

RosesandLilac Sun 11-Jan-26 00:42:36

Ho hum…….two hours sleep and here I go!
It’s very frosty out but the forecast is rain so that’s going to be fun dog walking! Yesterday was awful, black ice and I’d taken off my YakTrax. They’ll be going back on today.
I went to Lidl yesterday afternoon, thankfully DH drove because the lanes around here are treacherous with ice. I honestly prefer the wet weather to this cold and ice.
My hands are painful so I’ve bought more pairs of fingerless gloves, they help with the discomfort and I can still crochet, paint etc.
DD has sent videos of her three dogs chasing around in the snow, they obviously love it!

Thank you*MayBee70*. I shall try that. I have had only one really bad episode and the doctor prescribed an antibiotic. Brought me out in a rash .!!

I suffered from terrible UTI’s when I was pre and just post menopausal but (touch wood) don’t get them now. I do have some with me at all times and the slightest feeling that I might be getting one and I take some. Hasten to add, though that if there is a bad infection antibiotics are necessary. You can take a maintenance dose if you get frequent UTI’s.

Thank you BlueBelle, I had not heard that tip about bicarbonate. But I think I’m out of the woods. Drank gallons yesterday and slept a great deal of the day, and woke just after 6 this morning…s eight hours.

I always keep some d mannose in stock and take it at the slightest sign of a uti. Was recommended on here years ago and I wouldn’t be without it.

Thank you grandMattie every little helps. 😘

grandMattie Sat 10-Jan-26 06:45:40

JandJ, cranberry juice is said to be helpful too.

It may be a woman thing Grandmatte but I do think it’s a natural thing to wake more than once in the night as you get older however I think fir me it’s been ever since I had children ten grandchildren and was old enough to know the world is full of worries to pile on at night

grandMattie Sat 10-Jan-26 05:22:29

Well done, BlueBelle.

I didn’t have such a good night. I woke up completely around 1 am after only 2 hours’ sleep. Then managed to doze until now.

It is curious that at my (very small) Spanish class yesterday, all four of us women were commenting on how hard it was to have a reasonable nights’ sleep. Ages ranged between late 50s and late 70s. Is it a “woman thing”, I wonder?

Shirleyw Sat 10-Jan-26 05:18:24

Morning, pretty pleased with my sleep this past week….wonder if it’s because I’m doing ‘dry January’ 😄
mollygo, sort of thing my DH would do 😂
We have our youngest GD here for the weekend so we shall be on the go.
Enjoy your weekend all….

Morning all I managed till4 30 this morning miracle
All sounds very quiet outside peeped out the window when I went to the loo and no snow looked a normal winters day
So sorry you feel like a UTI s round the corner Jamesandjon I hope not they really are the pits Do you put a spoonful of bicarbonate of soda in your glass of water I always did it helps to neutralise the acid

JamesandJon33 Fri 09-Jan-26 07:45:22

Dreadful night. Not because of the weather but I thought I was on the edge of a UTI? So up every half hour to drink water. Thankfully I had some tablets remaining from my last one. Sees to be all calm this morning but I feel discombobulated ,

BlueBelle Fri 09-Jan-26 07:14:52

Whoops who pressed that button…. Rosieandlilac as soon as I sit down I can sleep in the daytime I find it annoying though I suppose we’re never content

BlueBelle Fri 09-Jan-26 07:12:29

What happened there I ve just woke up at 7 am Unheard of !!
I went to sleep around midnight and don’t remember waking up unless I ve had a memory loss

The weather seems no different to normal cold, dark, wettish

grandMattie Fri 09-Jan-26 05:24:05

An hour since I woke up.
Unlike you, Ralilac, I very often sleep for half an hour after lunch. I did so yesterday and woke up completely discombobulated. It was quite dark, and I couldn’t figure out whether it was the afternoon or the next morning, etc.. Rather disturbing. (Btw, I have never spent a night in my armchair).
I’m lucky in that I have got used to managing on 4-5 hours a night, although I would love more.

RosesandLilac Fri 09-Jan-26 04:09:21

Still wide awake…… It’s sleeting here now but I don’t think it’ll settle, too wet. I’m supposed to be going to my art group this morning but will probably give it a miss. I won’t be fit for much today after so little sleep. I cannot sleep during the day however tired I am, I envy those who can!
I will get on with housework, bed changing etc after I walk the dogs then do my sketching. I have no idea what we’re eating today, there’s plenty in the freezer.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 09-Jan-26 02:27:32

I envy you artistic people, I haven’t got any artistic talent at all.
It must be so satisfying to create something of beauty.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 09-Jan-26 02:25:10

No snow or rain here and very still.
The warnings were just that.
I have had two periods of sleep since 9pm but the cat woke me banging on my door for company and I am not sleepy any more.
I really need some fresh air but not being mobile is a problem in bad weather.
I am too comfy to get a drink so will read for a while.

RosesandLilac Fri 09-Jan-26 02:06:12

Well, it’s not snowing here in south Glos, just wet and windy, so I’m hoping that that’s all we’ll get. I prefer rain to snow any day.
I slept for about 3 hours, now I’m wide awake….. no obvious reason.
I started a coloured pencil and ink sketch yesterday, it’s strangely relaxing watching the colours gradually build up as you add layer on layer of colour. It’s only a small piece, about 6x4”, but it’ll take a few days to complete because of the nature of the materials. You also need to keep sharpening the coloured pencils to a fine point.
It’s the second one I’ve done and I’m looking forward to doing more.

Hi NanKate -
I have a jar in which I keep with slices of lemon in honey in water and I take out a cup full and microwave it.
Sometimes it has orange slices as well .
I might add cloves and a cinnamon stick .
Sometimes I add a splash of brandy or rum.

I went out with an extremely demanding elderly friend yesterday and over did it.
I've coughed a lot today and got absolutely nothing done .
Meeting up with her is too much .

NanKate Thu 08-Jan-26 08:32:12

That sounds pretty miserable Esmay. Do you ever have lemon and honey in hot/warm water ? I find it soothes an irritating cough.

Esmay Thu 08-Jan-26 08:18:48

I had a really bad night .
I'd had a busy and frustrating day and thought that I'd sleep well .
I was awake from one and coughed a great deal .
It's passed off now !

BlueBelle Thu 08-Jan-26 07:40:43

Oh I hope this storm doesn’t stay around or do too much damage fingers crossed

JamesandJon33 Thu 08-Jan-26 06:56:52

Not too bad last night. Just one skip to the loo and then awake at 5. Not looking forward to tonight though. We live in SW Wales , near the coast and 90 mph winds are forecast.
Keep safe everyone

BlueBelle Thu 08-Jan-26 06:56:23

It looks as if most people on here ave slept like logs last night
or else everyones hibernating for the forthcoming storm
