Thank you as always to our treasured benefactor soop.

I have written cards today, saddened by the number of names, crossed off the list by the Grim Reaper. I send probably half the number of cards I did ten years ago, an inevitable result of the passage of time. I still love sending and receiving cards, though this year I have not written much in them since there is really not much to say.

Well done. FGT, great to still be able to write both names,

Hi kitchen pals, it’s been a grey misty day here and then the rain arrived mid afternoon, it was dark before 4pm. I closed the curtains, lit a few candles around the fireplace and put the Christmas tree lights on so it brightened things up. I’ve written a few cards and wrapped a few presents but still more to do. DH returns home tomorrow evening, I’ll pick him up from town and then it’s back to our normal routine.
fgt ❤️
My sort of essentials too Jax

Hello everyone, another wet day here and a wet week forecast! Oh joy!
I managed a brisk (for me) walk before the rain got too heavy , then DD2 and family called in. The seven year old put a few baubles on my Christmas tree without much enthusiasm! DD1 called in after lunch, the 10 year old was at a party all afternoon, but her seven year old sister finished decorating the tree with a lot more enthusiasm than her cousin! She got a small stepladder out and put baubles on the high branches so it looks really good now.
When they’d gone I made some soup making the most of a few hours of half price electricity. That’s lunch for a few days.
I was awake at 3.00 last night, thinking about how much out of date food is in the fridge and freezer! I cleared the fridge, only two things to go in the bin!I’ll look in the freezer tomorrow!
Must write my Christmas cards tomorrow too.
fgt I hope your appointments with the Christie go well this week. Well done for writing your cards, so good you were able to write both your names on them.
blossoming that was a lovely photo of the train, I’m so pleased you’re able to keep going for your walks!
Best wishes to everyone who is finding life difficult at the moment.
Thinking of the soops snd hoping they’re as well as possible.
Night night everyone.

Good evening Kitchen pals. It has been a lovely day, cheering on the Santa Dashers and waving at the Santa Special train 🚂. I have ordered MrB’s Christmas present from John Lewis and I am hoping it will be a lovely surprise for him. It will be delivered on Tuesday, it isn’t too bulky so I will find somewhere to hide it until Christmas Day. I know some of you will have seen my photo of the train already, here it is again for anyone who hasn’t seen it. Thinking of our dear Soop and others with troubles, as always.

TOYA ♥️

TillyTrotter Sun 07-Dec-25 21:03:09

Also thinking of our dear soop and her DH .

Grannydaisy1 Sun 07-Dec-25 21:49:05

fgt2 Hugs

GrandmaC47 Sun 07-Dec-25 22:18:36

Thinking of the Soops.
Hope your appointments go well for you both,*Fgt*.

I’m only sending family Christmas cards this year, I sent printed cards last year saying we weren’t sending cards this year and giving my email address if anyone wanted it.

Wish I could drum up some Christmas excitement, if anyone has any to spare send it my way please 😂

Good evening Kitcheners. It's been a wet and windy day here and tomorrow has to be worse. I wrote some Christmas cards and pottered about the house this morning. In the afternoon, I did an hour in the school library then picked up the boys. Both were happy. Back to grandma's for snacks before daddy picked up dgs1 then DD picked up dgs2 ten minutes later. Then I had dinner. I'm going to rest for a bit as my leg is a bit bothersome then probably get up about nine for a cuppa. I wish you all a pleasant evening, particularly those with ill health or medical appointments.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 08-Dec-25 18:59:55

The tree (real) is now in the sitting room (DH purchased it with the help of GS) it looks beautiful.

Cold meat and chips for dinner.

Will read and catch up later 🤞

brook2704 Mon 08-Dec-25 19:42:15

Hi kitchen pals, it’s been a grey rainy day here and went dark very early again. I did a bit of shopping in town this morning then picked up DH from the station. Quick and easy pasta dish for dinner and that’s it for today
Sorry to hear your leg is causing trouble grandmabatty, hopefully the rest will help
We’ve finished decorating the tree and the outside lights are up and flashing merrily away- I hope the neighbours appreciate them as we don’t see them ourselves 🤣
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner especially soop, hope things are going ok x

Usedtobeblonde Mon 08-Dec-25 20:43:56

Good evening all.
My GD just woke me up from sleeping on the sofa so I could come to bed.
I am feeling better but not quite well from whatever I have had.
I have no energy at all and little appetite.
I still haven’t been out and the few cards I am sending, written last Tuesday are still unposted as I forgot about them, I have now asked my GD to please post them for me. I intend staying in until at least Thursday and then if I feel more lively I may go to a large Garden centre.
Hopefully out for a meal on Friday.
I seem to be missing so much but not really caring.
It has been very wet all weekend and resumed pouring down late afternoon.
I hope the Christie is kind to the FGT’s and our other poorlies are being well looked after.
I think of you all lots .
Our two trees are up but that is all we are doing inside this year, weather permitting some outside lights may be put up tomorrow.

Nannytopsy Mon 08-Dec-25 21:17:37

The house is clean and tidy - now it’s time to put up the decorations. Tomorrow is ironing, cards and decorations. The weather is looking miserable for a few days, so I can concentrate on indoors.
I’m thinking of the soops & FGTs as well as everyone else in the quiet corner.

Jaxjacky Mon 08-Dec-25 21:19:01

Hi all, I’m supposed to be at quiz, but had an unexpected gippy tum earlier, hence still here, MrJ was at an early bowls soirée then on to quiz.
Voluntary phone today was odd, 8 calls, only 1 lift requested, we had showers after lunch.
It’s no good utbb it takes longer to recover at our age, flipping nothing it is too, rest until you’re right.
The mints go in with a bowl of satsumas brook inherited idea from my M&D, they used to have Fox’s glacier mints too, next to the box of dates 🙂.
I hope today went well for the FGT’s

Hello everyone, it feels a bit subdued in the kitchen this evening. A mainly dry day today, but rain is forecast overnight and tomorrow morning although we won’t get the gales here that you’ll have in Scotland. Time to batten down the hatches I think.
I finally wrote some Christmas cards this afternoon and will do more in the morning. I find writing them a real chore but love to receive them!
utbb I hope that you soon feel better and back to your normal self

grandmabatty sorry that your leg is causing problems for you. Hopefully rest will improve it.
Night night everyone, sleep well and stay safe in storm Bram!

Grandmabatty Mon 08-Dec-25 21:56:52

My leg is still recovering from its fight with a train and the platform! I just need to rest more than I do. As suspected, I got up about nine and had a cuppa and some German lebkuchen while watching a really interesting documentary about the Mona Lisa. I've come back to bed now. Utbb you are quite right to rest and save your energy for Friday. Brook I have a little tree at the front door with lights on it which is really for the benefit of the neighbours and the post man. 😂 Jaxjacky I hope your upset tummy settles down.
I am planning to go nowhere tomorrow apart from the school run. Another storm with wind and rain is not conducive to travel. Take care all

Grandmabatty Mon 08-Dec-25 21:57:44

Redcar definitely battening down the hatches!

TillyTrotter Mon 08-Dec-25 22:43:38

We are told to expect Storm Bram so expecting more rain and high winds.
I think staying home is the best option tomorrow.
Best wishes to all , I don’t want to miss anyone out. Good night 😴

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 09-Dec-25 16:06:02

We are just leaving Christie’s now waiting for my brother in law to bring the car to the door. Another iv drip of chemotherapy given. 🤞Himself stays out of hospital this Sunday.

These guys were here to entertain patients and their families. And Christmas carols were being sung by local schoolchildren next to the piano with their teachers.

Grandmabatty Tue 09-Dec-25 17:25:02

Fingers crossed indeed FGT. I hope things go well.
The rain has stopped but the wind has ramped up. I had a much lazier day than I planned. I just didn't feel great. Not ill exactly, just tired. So I stayed in and rested which was just as well as a delivery arrived which I didn't expect until Friday. I did tidy the kitchen and I've cleaned up now the boys are back home. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

brook2704 Tue 09-Dec-25 17:46:08

It’s become really windy here too grandmabatty, everything is secured outside as it’ll be a stormy night
Hoping your DH manages ok fgt, thinking of you both ❤️

Jaxjacky Tue 09-Dec-25 17:49:12

Hi all, my tum has settled now after a disturbed night, looking forward to bed later, which means I’ve had a lazy day.
I did buy the Radio Times for Christmas, another tradition, I remember when there were far fewer channels!
MrJ called into the butcher, he collected bacon and chipolatas I’d ordered, it’s been split into essential items for Christmas Day and ‘spare’, all frozen.
I do hope your leg improves Grandmabatty, rest is tedious, but the best cure.
I do hope none of you in the storm zone have suffered, we’ve had wind and rain but nothing extreme.
I wonder if SueD’s sons are together having fun.
A quiet evening ahead, the same for you all too.
FGT everything crossed. Envious of the stormtrooper 😊.
Big hug for those struggling, Yia: soops and others.

brook2704 Tue 09-Dec-25 18:01:41

Oh thanks for the reminder Jax I’ll have to remember to buy the radio times tomorrow 🎄

GrannySomerset Tue 09-Dec-25 18:12:22

A very quiet day spent nursing a deplorable cold, something I almost never do, certainly not this century. However, such germs are best kept to myself and not shared as this is not the time of year to be generous with such things.

Lots of us seem to be off colour so let’s hope we can get it over with before Christmas.

Jaxjacky Tue 09-Dec-25 18:39:58

Yuk GrannySomerset take care x

Redcar Tue 09-Dec-25 19:56:17

Hello everyone. A mostly wet and breezy day here, hope tomorrow is better. I wrote a few more Christmas cards this morning, just a few more to do, but a few letters to write to go in with some of the cards. I’ve started to pay Christmas money into various accounts, but have more to do!

I visited my dementia friend this afternoon, her DH had put some tinsel up in her room, and some pretty twigs with lights on. She was mumbling a lot, but nothing we could understand unfortunately.

grannysomerset i hope you can shake off your horrible cold quickly.

fgt hoping that your DH doesn’t have any adverse reaction to the iv chemo. Fingers crossed that Sunday passes uneventfully.

I hope your leg improves soon grandmabatty, I’m sure you’re frustrated with it, as well as being in pain,

jax thank you for the reminder, I’ll pick up a copy of the Radio Times when I go to post my cards.

Have a pleasant evening everyone.
