Thank you as always to our treasured benefactor soop.
Hot chocolate and warm muffins await, cushions plumped and fire stoked.

Not too long to wait Neine. Good luck when it comes.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 02-Jan-26 14:09:20

Fingers crossed neine šŸ¤žšŸ»

I have amazed myself with my housewife duties today - two guest rooms bed changed, all Christmas, duvets, throws and decorations removed.

Same in grandchildren’s bedroom and playroom (they will not be happy when they see it tomorrow, but its youngest GS’s birthday tomorrow and I like to separate it from Christmas)

The rest of the house still looks like a christmas grotto will stay like that until twelfth night.

Now on the sofa with my iPad, kindle and a latte šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø

Well done GG13 very dynamic. I had a friend visit this morning, made a couple of phone calls then had a rest, still very tired.
We had Chinese for dinner, my son’s birthday and a day off for chef, it’s bitterly cold out, I felt sorry for the delivery person.
What good news neine everything crossed šŸ¤ž
I hope Yia is feeling better.

-2 here and the side roads have never lost the overnight snow so it is all frozen over and very treacherous.
I went out this afternoon to see my ex DIL, we keep in touch spasmodically now.
We kept it up for my GD who now has no contact with her mother.
Very sad but I couldn’t just cut off contact.
It was a pleasant afternoon and there is no awkwardness.
We have had cottage pie for our meal and I am just in bed, very tired
Out again tomorrow night to my friend for a Chinese takeaway.
Non stop socialising, next time probably around March.
Pleas all stay warm and safe in this very cold spell

Not too long to wait neine, I hope the next few weeks will go quickly for you.

jaxjacky you must be counting the hours until your knee brace is removed, I expect you will feel a bit odd without it?

grannygravy well done for your domestic duties today! I’ve not done much today, yesterday i did my back exercises twice so am suffering from the exertion today. I cleaned the shower tray and drain this morning and had a walk this afternoon when the temperature had reached the giddy heights of 4 degrees!
Night night everyone, keep warm and sleep well.

cornergran Fri 02-Jan-26 22:57:47

Not long now jax. Those things aren’t fun.

Better news for you neine, definite progress. Nerves are totally understandable, you’ll be in good hands though, I’m sure all will be well.

Hope you feel settled now Redcar, a difficult day to negotiate.

A local day for us today. We’re heading out tomorrow along two motorways to see our son before he begins a new role on Monday. It’s an excellent opportunity which will mean he’s a minimum of four hours away, too far for an afternoon that’s for sure. Our driving distance is getting less with each year that passes. We’re both being positive about this change for him, although we expect to miss him and his practical support terribly we know he’ll love the area he’ll be living in and the people he’ll meet. We’ll adjust of course I worry about his daughters who are very unsettled thinking how much they will miss having their dad close by.

Most of Christmas is dismantled. A few items will remain until Sunday when it will all be returned to storage spots under ottoman beds. I call those spaces my horizontal cupboards. As we both love to have lights the garden the white lights will remain until the Spring. We’ve been hunting new table lamps for the conservatory to sit on the window ledges, with timers attached we’ll continue to enjoy reflections from the glass roof.

Good for you for socialising utbb. Chinese is my favourite. I often hear the voice in my head of our much missed neighbour and fiend say - go and do it while you can. A very wise woman, we’re trying to live up to her spirit.

Time I tried to sleep now. I’ve been doing pretty well lately so hope for a decent rest tonight.

Night night everyone. Sleep tight.

Hello kitchen pals, there’s a lot of snów here in Inverness.
We went out earlier for a few bits of shopping, the main roads weren’t too bad but the side roads very thick with snow. We saw lots of children out on sledges, all well wrapped up but with very red cheeks! I’ve just finished packing for our last minute trip away, it seemed a good idea at the time but now I’m not looking forward to travelling to Edinburgh tomorrow. I think the train looks like the best option for now given the weather
Well done to your son corner wishing him all the very best in his new role although I understand how you must be feeling about missing him
It’s good to be busy and out and about uttb and so good of you to keep in touch with your ex Dil
Hope you’re doing ok Jax, I’ve attached a couple of snowy pictures for you

Grandmabatty Sat 03-Jan-26 15:39:56

I hope you slept well corner I do hope your son and family settle with the new situation, in a few months it’ll be the norm.
The knee brace is awkward, I’ll be ultra careful when it’s gone, hopefully a better night too.
Hope to see soop here soon.

Hi my first day on gransnet after a long time reading. Received lovely messages on my first post so thought I’d drop in here to say how much I admire the kindness and support in this thread. I hope I can provide some when I have the chance. I’ve had a very quiet day today Husband has taken down Xmas decorations and I’ve been a lady of leisure.

brook2704 Sat 03-Jan-26 22:02:17

Thank you Scapal ā¤ļø

Hi Castle25, welcome to this lovely thread and it’s good to have you with us

Redcar Sat 03-Jan-26 22:24:22

Hello Castle25 and welcome to soops kitchen. Good to have you with us.

cornergran Sun 04-Jan-26 00:20:21

Hello, castle. A warm welcome to you on. a cold night.

Goodness, no snow here (yet) brook, I do love to see it if not to be out in it. Safe travels to you. How wonderful to be heading for sunshine.

We had a super day. Spent the morning shopping, getting all the bits we failed to get here on Friday. The difference? Much bigger stores with a better range in them.

A good chat with our son this afternoon before a delicious Chinese delivered from our favourite restaurant. He’s sort of organised, there’s no way he’s related to me. A real last minute person while I have to be sorted at least a week, ideally two, before I need to be.

He does have very mixed feelings. Sensibly we think he’ll keep his current home for now, a former colleague has offered him somewhere to stay for three months We think he’ll love the area and the role so much that he’ll want to stay and have told him we’re already planning our holidays.

I do feel so much better now and am very proud of his willingness to be out of his comfort zone. Proud mum here knows he’s very good at what he does. He’ll have at least one weekend a month back in his home, he’s not going to the moon. All will be well.

That cough seems to have decided to move in yia, hope it can be evicted by Friday. šŸ¤ž your eye can be sorted as planned. Sending best wishes for your husband’s next round of scans, I think we’re all wired to worry about such things.

Time I tried for sleep. It always takes me an age to settle when we’ve got home. I feel unreasonably wide awake. Oh well here goes. Goodnight everyone. Sleep tight.

Nannytopsy Sun 04-Jan-26 08:05:04

Morning! Creeping into the kitchen very quietly. I hope I didn’t wake anyone. Up early because it’s church this morning.
We went to the pantomime with the two older DGC yesterday, which was a hoot. We took them for a pub meal first which disappeared in record time, then off to Rapunzel. It was very funny, at all levels IFYKWIM.
Welcome Castle - it’s warm here by the AGA.
Our awkward neighbour had the hedge cut yesterday after some nasty emails. At least it’s done! I say she had it done - we paid. 🤬
Another day of ironing and watching rugby on TV. My team are playing DHs team this afternoon.
Keep warm everyone

soop Sun 04-Jan-26 14:27:13

I seem to have inadvertently opened another thread under the CHAT headline. corner and other Kicheners have been kind enough to "reconnect" with me. I have asked her and others whether I should close the new thread and return full time to this KITCHEN. Any suggestion will be most welcome.

Bless you all.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 04-Jan-26 14:31:28

soop this is your kitchen, it’s not the same without you 😘

How are you getting on with your tablet ?

All decisions are down, most are in boxes waiting to go back into the loft, there are a fair few on the dining room table and floor waiting to be sorted and bubble wrapped. I am having a sit down, a latte and shortbread break.

soop Sun 04-Jan-26 14:36:36

Thank you dear GrannyGravy13. I would very much like to return and get to know all thos of you that enjoy the comfort of the Kitchen.

kittylester Sun 04-Jan-26 14:37:40

I am sure everyone will be pleased to see you here, soop:

Our decorations are down and packed away. We needed to do it before my operation on Tuesday so, it's done. The house looks weird without them.
