Housebound atm, husband can’t walk much and is wobbly even with a quad stick and holding my hand, so can’t risk going out with so many icy patches, if he falls will be another stay in hospital.
Been keeping busy with jobs indoors/ cleaning up after family called at the weekend. Hopefully will find something on Netflix later xx

The view from our window is wonderful. We look across the Sound of Jura and the islands of the Inner Hebrides are sparkling white with deep snowfall.

As many of our dear Kitcheners are aware, I have been absent for a very long time since returning home from hospital in early October. I understand that it will take me a very long time to catch up with countless "newbies" but I will gradually do so.

Prior to going into hospital, I had several blood tests showing very high levels of calcium. In hospital, Xrays confirmed that I had incurable cancer in my spine and pelvis. Since coming home, I've been having palliative care thanks to MacMillan nurses, carers, the GP and my dear Mr Soop. I can walk from my chair to the bathroom with the assistance of a stroller, otherwise, I am chair-bound.

There are countless people who are far worse off that me. I try to remain positive and, apart from the rare shedding of a tear, I keep looking on the bright side.

So, here I am, back with the Granspals I grew up with (several years ago) together with a host of lovely new Kitcheners.

Thank you for welcoming me back into the fold.

Redcar I have a riser-recliner, such a useful item of furniture...however, if you have weak back it isn't wise to attempt to move it. Leave the job to a muscular male

Soop, I envy you the view from your window. We have a view across the valley but it won't be nearly as nice!

I struggle with the eccentricities (polite word for "buggeration" ?) of the tablet I use when away from home, so I sympathise with you. If you can at least master it to read Gransnet, if not to write, it might mean that you don't have to spend so long sitting uncomfortably at the computer.

Anyway, it's a joy to have you back in the kitchen and to read your posts.

Neine, on reading way back to the beginning of this thread, I read that you came very close to meeting your latest grandchild. Have things resolved themselves since the brief encounter? I would like to think so.

I have given the tablet back to Mr Soop. Now that I am back here in the Kitchen, the computer seems less of a buggeration.

I have a telephone message from our GP to prepare for. He likes to call it "touching base"!

soop your view sounds absolutely beautiful, especially with the sparkling snow! Obviously much appreciated from the warmth and comfort of your home, but you may want to be able to get out there and enjoy the fresh air!
I moved the chair about 6 inches and am happy (ish) to leave it until the weekend when DD1 will probably push it into its normal place in about 2 minutes. She’s quite used to moving furniture around as I used to be. Or her DH will do it. At the moment it’s piled high with newspapers and books waiting to be read or put away.

MrB and I went out this morning, we have a light covering of snow and it’s okay to walk on while it’s crisp and fresh (helped by my trusty triwalker of course!). MrB has stocked up the pantry and freezer so we have plenty of food for days when we can’t get out. It’s been brilliant sunshine all day. TOYA

The decorations are down, the boxes have been sorted and labelled and the ironing is finished! I have reached a tricky step on DGD’s cardigan where I add the sleeves to the all in one back and two fronts, then continue to knit the yoke. I have decided to do it in the afternoon rather than this evening. Wish me luck!

I have two boys eating crisps and cooryin in beside me. (The noise of eating crisps is very loud) However they are happy and so am I. The sky is fading from pink to dark blue as I write. Our forecast overnight is for heavy snow, so the bin is out already - I usually do the walk of shame in my dressing gown - and I have put the frost cover on my car. Dinner will be stovies but not til the boys have been picked up. Dgs1 is practically sitting on my lap, he likes cuddles. On that note, I will leave you until tomorrow. Adieu

A late Happy Birthday wish Kitty...and am glad that it's go go go for tomorrow.
Redcar.... Very wise to leave the recliner where it is for now.... Your poor back would suffer for sure if tried anymore. I tried to move the jiggy machine ( as my Grandsons called it) yesterday it's one of those power plate sort of things and devilish heavy. My back and my hip let me know immediately that it was not a good idea.
Soop... I'm seeing the view in my minds eye....best observed from the warmth of a comfy chair methinks. Yes I did come face to face with DD4 and DSiL and their new baby. I've thought about it a lot and maybe I should have stopped and said ' how lovely' rather than as I walked past ( I was in shock) but as others have pointed out they equally could have spoken to me. We'll never know. I continue to pray for all the daughters and their families and to lovec them from afar.
Grandmabatty I had to look up stovies, it sounds perfect for a cold January, do you have a particular recipe?
Needless to say that having successfully packed away all the decorations and rearranged my office I looked up at the cupboards above the aga and lo and behold there was the garland with the angel staring back at me. Grrrrr

After an absolute rubbish night with little sleep, I have had a really busy day.

Shopping with DD and GS’s the boys had Christmas Gift Vouchers to spend. The Imp also had vouchers from his birthday. Smyth’s Toy Shop and JD Sports soon sorted that,

I then took them to the Pet Shop and bought The Imp a hamster for his birthday, along with hamster toys and everything to keep it happy for a couple of months (they had a cage already, an enormous duplex thingy)

Healthy eating hasn’t started yet, as I fancied sausage, egg and chips for dinner, thankfully so does DH

Neine, stovies have many different recipes. I make mine with diced Lorne sausage, one per person. I put half in the bottom of a pot. Then a sliced onion, then chunks of potatoes to cover it. Then I grate a carrot and add that. Then repeat. I add a little water, bring to the boil and lower immediately to a light simmer. I cook for ten minutes, stir, cook for another ten minutes and stir again. Usually the potatoes are soft by then. But if not, cook for another five minutes. Take off the heat and smash the potatoes lightly. It looks like a dog's dinner but it tastes lovely.
Some people make it with beef. Some don't add carrots.

Heard from my GP, I still have a uti, more antibiotics on the way, all delayed by the lab being on holiday last week.
I did cancel a mammogram appointment, to be rescheduled, 8 think not right now!
