Last week on a cold and sunny day I decided that home made chicken broth would be lovely for lunch with some extra for the freezer. Stock pot on, on went carrots, celery, onions, garlic, thyme and a bay leaf followed by a full bag of bone in chicken thighs. They simmered for 2 hours, I chopped some fresh vegetables and then needed to remove the stock pot veg and take the meat from the thighs. It was only as I poured the dregs from the pot into the colander that I realised the last of my lovely stock was disappearing down the sink! Old age or stupidity ? hmm

Long ago when we were young marrieds we took turns to invite neighbours, friends and inlaws to small dinner parties.

It was tempting to try new recipes and show off a bit.
I embarked on something called a cooked lemon soufflé. I seem to remember it was in a ceramic jelly mould and came out, to great hilarity, like a lump of yellow rubber.
it went straight in the bin

I was mortified, especially when my supercook neighbour told me she always had a spare pudding in case of disasters.

As a teenager I forgot the eggs in a chocolate cake, it was in the oven for quite a few minutes before I remembered. Then carried on like a pork chop which annoyed my mother more. Rescued it ok -(ish).

I’m not a good cook but I am okay with cakes, however, pastry defeats me. I decided to practice some Brie and cranberry bites for a bring and share do next week. I was using ready rolled puff pastry. Thank goodness, I did, they turned out awful! Hard and greasy. How can anyone go wrong with ready rolled puff pastry? All I did was cut it into squares!

I made mushy peas in a pressure cooker. I took the weight off too soon and it was like Mt Vesuvius erupting. My white ceiling was dripping with green peas !
