Not all parents are negligent, not all children are unruly.

Punishing all due to a few is ridiculous.

I live in a seaside town, most pubs do food and there are always children around when I'm having a meal. I don't think there's any sort of ban and I don't see children running round, I'm always impressed with how well behaved they are.

I think Wetherspoons have got it right by allowing children in their pubs until 9pm. I can’t remember our kids ever being tucked up at 7pm.

When they were young very few pubs allowed children in and if they did it was in a specially allocated separate room and we had to travel miles to find these pubs.
I’m glad we are now able to take our grandchildren in to pubs and have family time/meals together. I’ve rarely if ever seen children running riot/being ignored by their parents or anybody drunk for that matter but then we’ve usually left by 9pm ourselves.

A lot of pubs now are really restaurants with a bar aren’t they?
So children may be with parents for a special meal out, I wouldn’t want that to be stopped.
Bars in cities are another matter.

IMO all minors should be banned from entering pubs at any time of day. although I can see there might be an argument for allowing those of 16 and over in.

Certainly, no child should be in the company of drunk adults, and while we cannot legistrate about what adults do in their homes, we can and should have laws that forbid children being in places where adults drink or smoke, whether these are pubs, restaurants or anywhere else.

Why should families not go out to eat together?

Not all pubs are full of hard drinkers. Families would avoid those anyway.
Pubs sell food because people are not buying so much drink because, in many case, they are driving.

Whe we are abroad, if we are in a locals restaurant, there is quite often a big party celebrating something & the party includes children & haven't really got going until 9 pm.
I don't like the idea of small children in "drinking" pubs or of children being in pubs in the evening routinely - but I think a ban is sad, because family celebrations are often at restaurants these days & children should be included.
We always had an early bedtime, strictly enforced, but "staying up late" on saturdays & for parties was exciting & better for us, I'm sure, than being left at home with a babysitter.

Having looked at it’s website and publicity it is being marketed as trendy with bespoke pizza kitchen.

More likely to be looking for hipstet type clientele.

It sounds as if the pub was more like a creche in the evenings, with babies and toddler, prams and pushchairs!
So yes, I do agree that tiny tots should be at home in bed in the evenings but older children, out for a meal with family? As long as they're well-behaved, I see no reason why not.

A lot of our bigger ones have play areas for little children. We make sure we don’t sit near them ! You go out to relax, not to have screaming and yelling . Different during the day,. I have to say most seem reasonably well behaved in our experience.

I guess the pub in question will decide whether it’s a good or bad idea, based on any change in its profits.
When I go out with DH or friends, I quite like a child free environment. When I go out with family or friends with children, it’s good to have somewhere to go.
