Good morning from a windy NE, it was another noisy night.
Yesterday was horrible, so dark that I had to have the lights on all day.
I couldn't be bothered to do anything constructive so spent a while on the computer and then watched TV.
DS was in touch, GD stayed in bed as she was feeling poorly, he said he may visit this afternoon.
Thinking of Marydoll.
Happy holiday Pantglas.

Good morning from a bright Suffolk where sun is promised later. Good to read your post MD and am thinking it will be hard for you to stick to your plan for the day when others try to engage you to’do’ things. Hope you enjoy the event.

We are meeting DS and family at a local restaurant for a carvery for a late lunch. It I used to offer this most Sundays but stopped a couple of years ago and now just has 2 dates before Christmas. I imagine it will be heaving but they are well organised and used to large family groups.

Hope today is a good day for all, especially those beset by illness or caring responsibilities.

Good morning Mick and everyone.
I haven't read your news yet.
This morning I have friends from my former home visiting. It will be so good to see them.
Yesterday I had my first cut and blow dry since moving house. A very relaxing experience at the hairdresser. The recliner chair gave me a massage as my hair was being washed. I am very pleased with the excellent hair cut too.
Wishing the best for you all today. My thoughts are with those who are finding life challenging for whatever reason. flowers

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, just on freezing but I went to mass last night so don’t need to worry about my longish uphill walk.

Some more necessary admin clearing out, it’s going slowly but I’m beginning to see daylight. No word yet this morning from my friend’s family and if that remains the case I’ll join my book group friends for our pre Christmas lunch. It’s in a fairly new place that has opened a few miles outside our town and and we’re just having ordinary fare, not quite ready for ‘festive food’ yet.

I have a Daily Good Deed Advent calendar for my young DGC, (they will be thrilled), I hope the Christmas Scene jigsaw that comes with it will compensate 😊. They often have a ‘family’ jigsaw laid out on a side table that everyone does a little bit of when they feel like it.

Have a good holiday Pantglas, your dad is funny.

Wishing everyone a pleasant day.

Good morning from the south coast where it looks like it’s going to be a sunny day. DD and DSiL are picking me up at 10.30 to go to a Christmas Fair so are lucky with the weather.
Yesterday I went to a Christmas wreath making session which was organised by a friend at the sheltered housing complex where she and her husband live. It was a good turnout and lots of fun.
I picked up my new varifocals from Specsavers yesterday and am so disappointed. The distance part is fine but anything I try to read is so blurry I’ve had to go back to wearing my old ones. I’ll be on the phone tomorrow morning as they and the accompanying sunglasses were jolly expensive.
Best wishes to anyone who is poorly or facing challenges.
Hope you all have a peaceful Sunday.

Logged in yet again (v. cross this keeps on happening) but wanted to send love and admiration to Marydoll and hope the day is a rousing success and worth her hard work and courage.

Heating went off yesterday evening so am struggling with portable electric heaters and trying to rouse the emergency plumber who appears to still be asleep as my message at 8.00 am went to voice mail. Will try again at 9.00 am as this new boiler is less than two years old and was checked last week because the radiators weren’t warm enough. Can see this is going to be very trying. Still suffering with arthritic right hand though the pills are working and at least I can type, if slowly.

What a miserable post! Sorry - hope today brings some joy and comfort to all of us.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on another very dark but still morning in North Yorkshire. At last I am feeling a little better and in less pain after a horrible day yesterday, where I had to sort of give in and just ignore the many things I wanted to do, and just get through the day , reading my paper and trying not to feel annoyed about my lack of ability to do anything more.

The day hadnt started well anyway, but I had hoped to call in at christmas fairs and so forth, after getting shopping and of course being without the buggy, was going to mean the difficulty of finding somewhere to park that I could manage the walking into the shop from the car etc. It took me so long to struggle through a shower and dressing etc that it was nearly 10.30 before I was even ready to go out. I had collected 3 pairs of trousers to go to the repair day in Thirsk, but then fortunately saw another advert about one in my own town, so decided that as it was only on from 10 =12 I would go there first and chance my arm. If the queue was enormous I could leave it for another time but it would be something positive from the day if I could get that done.

So I creaked my way to the venue, in the pouring rain and gloom, which I think was why there was not a long queue of people, so it turned out to be very useful. You go in and fill in a form and show the person there what you want to be mended or looked at and she looks on her list and sends you to the person most likely to be able to help you and you go to their queue. They also sold coffee and cakes , which helps the local charity too , whilst you sit and wait, so a good idea.

Well, my luck started to change then, as for me fortunately, the sewing expert lady Heather was actually free, so no waiting at all. They had set this group of experts in a craft room, so there were 3 of them. Two men and Heather. The men were doing electrical things and looking at a variety of stuff ranging from a hoover to an electric toothbrush and a little toy ladybird which were not working, and it was interesting to see the range from something that was very simple for them to sort out, to something that took the two of them trying all sorts of things to even get into the innards to deal with.

So I had 3 pairs of trousers with me. One was a thin cotton summer, , brand new pair which I had bought and it had one of those sort of invisible zips. I had only worn it a couple of times and the zip came apart in the middle , which was very annoying. I am a bad mix of having had a mother who was an expert and a perfectionist with sewing, so I was used to well made things and quality sewing. So whilst I could do an ordinary zip if necessary, I knew I would never get this to the level I would want, and they had been waiting for the time a sewing friend could have a look at them. She looked at them and said well the bottom of the zip was the problem and that she could sew across that bit and I could see how that went, so that was that one.

Then I had another much used and useful pair of grey trousers where the waistband button had come away and the actual material had torn. I had moved the button but that meant that the trousers were too loose and I was always having to hitch them up, very annoying. So for that she had her sewing machine and made a very good patch and then was able to return the button to the right place and hey presto , back to useful. The last pair was a new cord pair I had bought in a sale with wide legs, but they were too long and just needed the hem to be shortened. However on your own it is difficult to check the length and pin them up etc. As I no longer have a sewing machine, and needed to wait for my back to allow me to try them on and someone to pin them up etc they had been left of course. So, I went to their ladies and put them on and the expert measured it (much more carefully all the way round than I would have done) and then
she cut them and rehemmed then with great efficiency.
I was very pleased with all she had done, and enjoyed a few lessons about electrical goods watching the other experts. My husband used to be brilliant at all sorts of things, being an engineer and very good at anything he turned his hand to anything. I am reasonably good at sorting things out too, so I could deal with most things, but there is always that one thing that you cant see how to deal with, and of course, any shop you ring up sounds amazed that whatever it is is still being used, so I can see me beginning to make up a list for the next repair cafe.

So , it had not been comfortable sitting on a hard chair there, but worth it to get the jobs done. So it was still raining cats and dogs and miserable, so I gave up on any further thought of going to anything other than Tescos. Got their disability buggy, but whoever had been putting yet more christmas displays up had not even thought about how you get round on the buggy, and there were several times I could not even turn round at all and had to back up that particular aisle and it was extremely annoying . I was very tempted to just go for it and knock the whole thing down, but my pride in my ability to get round would not allow me to do it, but of course more importantly I wouldnt make things difficult for other shoppers. But by the time I had finished I was feeling edgy and short tempered and ratty, so had to make sure I did not take it out on the check out lady, who was very pleasant and helpful. Then a struggle to get to the car and home, where I felt so shattered that I just took the main things in and left the rest of the shopping to get later and was glad to get inside.

That was about it for the day in the way of getting anything done, I just felt so exhausted and in a lot of pain , that it was a case of make some coffee , get the paper, and sit and read and listen to radio 3, which of course cheered the day.

Today I am very grateful to be feeling a bit more with it, and in less pain. By now it is very light, as I have interuppted this as had a phone call, so it looks very clear, cold and still out there. Later I may go mad and just have a walk round the flats to get a bit of exercise, but for now it is a quiet start to the day. The first advent sunday means some lovely music on radio three and of course some marvellous Bach early this morning. I plan to have a very simple meal of good pork sausages and a lovely jacket potato with sweet corn and peas, so not a great deal to do for that, so that I can concentrate on getting dates put on my calendar for december, catch up with paperwork and more importantly putting it away, so hopefully it might look a bit tidier by this evening. Finally yesterday they came and took all the rubbish away that they had left, but did not leave me any new bags for recycling!! So I shall have to ferret down the backs of cupboards to see if there is a spare bag lurking there. Other than that I shall just stick it in any plastic bag I can find and woe betide them if they say they wont take it because it is not their specific bags!
Well whatever I manage to get done will be a bonus after the last few days and will hope to have a bit more energy to do things tomorrow.

Sounds as though you have the same idea Mick , so hope you keep warm and enjoy your day.GrandMattie hope your posies go well and I will of course say a prayer for MD and wish better health for all struggling. Pantglas hope you got off ok and were not delayed by all these problems with the planes. Karmalady hope that you do decide to get the tree out and enjoy it, and that perhaps you will find something good at the stalls when you go out. I will look up yesterdays post and read some that I missed, as I didnt really look at the computer yesterday, and find out what I missed. Hoping that everyone can have a good day and enjoy whatever it brings. Wishing for better health and something cheering in the day to all

Good morning all and the sky is bright.

Yesterday was a busy one. I walked up to town , bumped into ds1 and DIL twice. They were loaded down with Christmas cushions, throws, wrapping paper etc. I had only just started but they wanted to give me a lift home. I gave them some of my shopping to take back which lightened my load, and carried on .

I also bumped into my friend and her husband and had a chat to them. She messaged me later apologising for being ‘distant’ as she’d had a row with her husband who was being ‘obnoxious’.
I honestly hadn’t noticed and he is the most pleasant of men. 😂.

Today we have Dd and gd coming for lunch. I’ll get her to go up in the loft for me and retrieve last years wrapping paper and Christmas door wreath. 🤶.
Everyone seems to be early with their decs this year. Twinkly bright lights to lessen the gloom of winter days. 🌟.

Lovely to hear from Marydoll .
Enjoy your holiday Pants and yes I will be blubbing when we leave our cottage, but you know when ‘it’s the right time’.

Enjoy your Sundays whatever it brings. 🙏

Good morning all. It feels milder and we are promised a sunny day in Glasgow although the ubiquitous rain will appear in the evening. Happy St Andrews Day. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A huge thank you for kind, supportive thoughts and messages yesterday. Another difficult hurdle is over all with the support of family and friends, especially my girls, both DDs and both GDS. It’s hard for them too and we are there for each other. A visit to Sainsbury’s got me out of the house and on my return DD1 arrived with a beautiful bouquet from all 4 girls. She brought Millie, her yellow lab, guaranteed to lift my spirits as she knows and as it was dry and not too cold we had coffee in the garden.

Heartfelt good wishes to those with their own struggles whatever they may be. I hope a better day is ahead for you and to all, have a pleasant Sunday.

Good morning from a brighter and sunnier Black Country, where it rained most of yesterday.

I didn't wake up until 8.30! Most unusual for me.

Meeting up with my friend later this morning and we are going to have a wander around a Christmas Fayre at a local social club.

Glad to see Marydoll posting. Please rest MD and get better soon.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Good morning everyone and happy Advent Sunday from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton. No plans to go out today again.

Yesterday was spent making 4 dozen sausage rolls for Christmas, which won't take my family long to demolish as they are only mini cocktail size. They are all now in the freezer, apart from the ones I had to try for quality control purposes....

DD-out-law sent me elder DGD's Christmas wish list, and so I have ordered her a nice hoodie. Still waiting for DGD2's list.

Today I plan on writing the Christmas cards and possibly doing a few Christmas letters; this is my usual first Sunday in December task, and I like to get them out of the way. Next weekend I plan on putting the Christmas tree up.

Hoping that Marydoll is soon well again.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Morning all from a frozen West Oxfordshire.

A quiet day yesterday. A nice chat with my brother in Australia where it’s 32 degrees! I made a cake - porridge oats, Guinness, cherries and chocolate. Honestly, it’s delicious. OH and I did a bit of financial admin too.

Today I’m going to the smallest church in the Benefice. Dinner tonight will be beef stew and dumplings and rhubarb crumble.

It is good to hear from MaryD. I hope the FGT2S are having a good weekend.

Good morning from a brightening northwest coast.
Sister from the south went into the city yesterday for her annual school reunion and stayed overnight. She will be back later this morning.
Last night was the first of the opera co Xmas concerts and it went well although I had a little problem finding the venue. My sat nag as I call it gave up when I started off on my own route and never got round to rerouting me..
I wore a red dress with a white fake fur shrug and I think it looked Christmassy.
My upset stomach had calmed down too which was a blessing, but I didn’t go on to the after concert get together, it meant finding somewhere else I didn’t know and I’m not 100 per cent after the cold I had followed by the bad stomach.

Thoughts to the FGTs and all🌺

Good morning everyone from sunny Lancashire.

It’s a beautiful bright morning here, we have been out for our usual walk.

I have been struggling with a kidney infection and the need to balance my diet to suit both declining kidney function and hyponatremia. The fatigue is brutal but I’m doing this best I can. I had repeat blood tests on Friday, hoping the results will point the way forward to manage these conditions.

Yesterday we went to the Christmas market at the care home where I went for respite. It was very busy and very noisy so we didn’t stay too long. It was lovely to see the residents I’d become friends with and hear how they are getting along. We bought some cakes for afternoon tea today, a treat to look forward to. I loved going to the Christmas markets when I was working in Europe, this is probably the nearest I’ll get to it but I’m happy. It’s a local event with great community spirit and quite a few craft and food stalls.

Thinking of our poorly grans and those with troubles, as always.

Wishing you all a good day, whatever you’re doing 🦩🦩🦩
