Good morning Mick and all GN's on another cold , dark but misty morning in North Yorkshire. Yet again I am creaking round, wishing I could move a bit easier and less pain, but anyway I am up. Still not sorted out the situation with the yellow peril, so no chance of going down the market. No parking in the high street because of the market itself and I just couldnt walk from a car park today, frustrating. So if I need anything it will have to be supermarket so long as I can get parked and have their buggy.
Yesterday after looking at stuff on the internet and thinking about things I went to a specialist shop to look at supposed portable and ok to use on trains and planes buggies. I had to choose between two kinds, one where the buggy comes into various pieces and you can put each bit in the car or wherever, but they were still quite heavy when I lifted one part up, and as the whole point is to be independant and be able to sort myself out, with my back not so good. There was a possibility of getting a hoist thing made specially to use in the boot and there was a big difference in price too. But then when they said how much the hoist would cost, and also if I had it fitted and then changed the car , more expense etc, so that the rather eyewatering cost of the light one began to seem more practical and sensible. So I tried it out from the shop , not just inside. Of course it doesnt have the level of suspension that my yellow peril has , but no problem using it. I deliberately took it over various mended bits on the path to see how it felt, and it was ok. The lady in the shop was very helpful, knew all the details of things, could recommend someone they use to do hoists for all their different buggies and wheelchairs and was not the least bit pushy. So I now have the leaflet to study and have a bit more thought about, but even writing this now, I am already seeing how much easier it will make my life. I will be able to go to places like Harlow carr without being stuck if they do not have an available buggy there, and things like this lovely ice sculpture thing coming up, I will be able to park and go round on it and look at them all, rather than just the few I can park near.
There is always that to and fro argument in mind that I see in many people, at the point where you have to admit that you need more help or whatever. Years ago my husband was resisting using a walking stick, although he was becoming quite unsteady at times on his feet. We were in Richmond when he walked across the cobbles, stumbled and fell full length. My heart was racing as I rushed across , frightened he might have broken something, but thankfully he was ok, just bruised and shaken, However, while nothing was said at the time, the following day he went and found a suitable walking stick, and then admitted that he felt much safer and was walking in a more normal way with it.
So , for me, the pretence that I only need the buggy occasionally and that I CAN walk up and down the market usually, it is just that the occasionally need for the buggy now seems to happen quite a lot. But having sort of crossed that mental bridge, where I dont choose to acknowledge that things are permanently a bit worse, rather than just a bad day, I am already seeing simple things so that I will be able to go to a shopping mall or a hotel with long corridors etc and be able to get round under my own steam. I will still do my best to keep active and walk about a bit, but reluctant though I am to admit it, the time has come to accept I need this to help me remain the awkward independant so and so that I am. !! Think Diana Trent in waiting for god, as the role model - although I always think she was copying me not the other way round!!. So now it is down to practicalities, checking that things will fit ok and so forth, before I commit myself to such an expense. I always think that the advertising lot missed a trick when calling them disability buggies etc. They should have all been labelled Freedom Buggies!! Well we shall see. Watch this space!!
Ah, phone calls and more complications to the day tomorrow. Back again on here anyway and enjoying Bach's 3rd Brandenburg concerto, to cheer the morning, and just had the Nabucco Hebrew Slaves chorus too. Brightens the day for me.
Mick hope the eye check goes well today. RoseandLilac, have you not got a friend who would like the turkey and swap it with you for a piece of meat you enjoy? I am a great believer in swapping skills and things. Started many years ago, when as a child it was a rare treat to get chocolates , usually a very little box at christmas. I hated turkish delight, but couldnt bear to throw a chocolate away, so organised my friends to meet up the day after boxing day where we swapped chocolates around and I was definitely the winner as I was the only one who loved coffee creams and was very pleased with my swap!! GrandMattie, you are a perpetual motion cook I think! Picalli, marmalade and coffees all in one day!All looks very good . Bellasnana such elegant nails, looking lovely. My hands at the moment are nothing like that, clean but with broken nail from the garden and cut short to be able to rattle away on here.
So today I have yet more paperwork to get through and then getting bits and pieces out of the boot of the car, ready for tomorrows M0T. I am not sure how tomorrow is going to work, as I have two meetings I need to get to in the morning, which by hook or by crook, I shall also have to find somewhere to park the car. Then dash back home ready for the garage to pick it up and take it off, when I shall get a quick bite to eat and then the cleaners will be coming, followed by hopefully , fingers crossed, the car comes back done and dusted with nothing awful wrong with it needed much money spent on it. Greyduster , all your efforts in the gym will give you the right to second helpings of the christmas lunch. Hope you have a good time. Cornergranny I recommend making a loaf of bread when worries get on top of you. I find that physical thumping and kneading gets some of the tension out of you and you have some lovely bread to eat later. Karmalady another perpetual motion lady. Looks a lovely warm top that I could do with this morning. Aldom , definitely getting the pictures up is the start of feeling it is now your home. I have to be like a gallery as have lots of pictures from when I had a bigger house and a long corridor that the watercolours were safe and fine on and no direct light on them, so now have to swap them about when I have a mind to.Ashcome , know how you feel, Weetabix is definitely my go to if desperate for some food in the night, easy to eat and that is about all you can say. Glad the carol singing went well.
