I know it stinks, but it stops me having sore throats.

Been in four large stores in my area without success.
Any help most wellcome.

I’ve never bought any antiseptic or disinfectant in my long life, including raising four healthy children. I’m sure our natural immunity from infections was helped by living with numerous pets.

I agree it's brilliant for sore throats ,but hard to find.
It's gone out of fashion.

Please let us know when supplies resume at normal prices!

Try Tea tree Thursday Plantation Antiseptic cream 100ml.. It isn 't cheap but it 100% works and reduces irritated skin or spots every time. Av price seems to be £13 now but as it works it is great stuff. We keep shopping around for it.

I too have used it all my life -my Gran swore by it (along with Alker Selzer) and I have used it to gargle with for a sore throat and dab on cuts etc. I don't mind the smell. Boots has a similar one but don't think it's as good as TCP. I also think they've stopped Germolene ointment - not cream - the ointment "drew" out splinters/badness etc if you put it on a plaster. In Yorkshire we called splinters "spells". I've got TCP from Boots and chemists but not tried recently.

My father used to call it, Terribly Corrosive Product.
Didn’t stop him gargling with though.

They sell TCP on eBay for nearly 60 pounds a bottle !!!
This is in answer to a poster wishing to buy TCP

I hope you find some soon, I love it and it always gets rid of a sore throat quickly. When I was a child I used to love the TCP blackcurrant pastilles and would probably eat too many. I don’t know why they were discontinued. It seems it is like Marmite you either love it or hate it.

I never used TCP. or Germolene, if I must it is Dettol or Surgical Spirit. Never used Gavusvon but Boots have good alternatives to most things,

Does anyone have any idea why Remegel, an antacid with the consistency of an opal fruit was discontinued during the pandemic? I’ve never been able to find out. I cannot use the chalky chewable tablets which is all you can buy other than the ludicrously expensive Gaviscon liquid. Luckily don’t take it that often.

Most pharmacies sell their own version of Gaviscon and it is much cheaper. Less than half price. Superdrug, Boots and Tesco all sell it.

I've been buying TCP at Home Bargains.

Always have a cap of Dettol in my bath.

No can't get TCP here atm

Primrose53 Thu 11-Dec-25 16:41:16

My late Dad loved the stuff and regularly gargled with it. He never missed a day’s work and was always healthy.

labazs Thu 11-Dec-25 16:34:26

amazing to think people used to bathe in Dettol which I would think would not do you much good!
I think TCP is a marmite thing you either like it or you do not. me i love it as it has a fresh clean smell

Stopped using it when someone called it "Tom Cats P*ss"😆😹

I was going to post that but refrained 😂

In fact, it was our vet many years ago who called it that!

Mojack26 Thu 11-Dec-25 16:24:35

Yes! Not been able to get it for a while now. Cannot get it anywhere.... I'm in Scotland.

missdeke Thu 11-Dec-25 16:03:31

Nothing on this earth could persuade me to have TCP in my house, I's rather drink some of the concoctions on I'm a celebrity. I have had to get off a bus halfway through a journey because somebody got on smelling of it. It's the worst smell on earth.

Greciangirl Thu 11-Dec-25 15:52:40

Also, why on earth can’t we buy Andrew’s Liver salts anymore.
They disappeared after Covid for some reason and have not been seen since.

Not sure about TCP.

sophie232 Thu 11-Dec-25 15:28:25

Check online pharmacies Boots and Superdrug usually stock it. Might be a local supply issue rather than nationwide shortage

KKOB Thu 11-Dec-25 15:21:33

Amazon stock Germolene and Drapolene

Geordiegirl1 Thu 11-Dec-25 14:41:39

I preferred the sickly pink original in a tube.

I have read that the company making TCP in France has manufacturing issues. Boots has its own antiseptic so must try that.
