I know it stinks, but it stops me having sore throats.

Been in four large stores in my area without success.
Any help most wellcome.

Have you tried Boots and Super Drug?

OldFrill Wed 10-Dec-25 18:27:36

There's a known shortage. Boots own antiseptic is similar.

Asda have it in stock and Boots say it will be back in stock soon.

Anybody remember the “One Foot in the Grave” episode with Victor stinking of TCP?

We don't use TCP but did have problems buying Germolene for some time.
It does seem to be appearing in some stores again. Probably with a price increase. 🤔

Go to a chemist, they will sell it.

I used to find that TCP ointment was the only thing which helped my skin rashes. (I'm allergic to many things). For some reason they stopped making it. I hope they haven't phased out the liquid too.
Germolene no longer has that distinctive smell, which I rather liked. Now it's similar to Savlon.

I have read that the company making TCP in France has manufacturing issues. Boots has its own antiseptic so must try that.

Stopped using it when someone called it "Tom Cats P*ss"😆😹

I preferred the sickly pink original in a tube.

Amazon stock Germolene and Drapolene

Check online pharmacies Boots and Superdrug usually stock it. Might be a local supply issue rather than nationwide shortage

Also, why on earth can’t we buy Andrew’s Liver salts anymore.
They disappeared after Covid for some reason and have not been seen since.

Not sure about TCP.

Nothing on this earth could persuade me to have TCP in my house, I's rather drink some of the concoctions on I'm a celebrity. I have had to get off a bus halfway through a journey because somebody got on smelling of it. It's the worst smell on earth.

Mojack26 Thu 11-Dec-25 16:24:35

Yes! Not been able to get it for a while now. Cannot get it anywhere.... I'm in Scotland.

I was going to post that but refrained 😂

In fact, it was our vet many years ago who called it that!

amazing to think people used to bathe in Dettol which I would think would not do you much good!
I think TCP is a marmite thing you either like it or you do not. me i love it as it has a fresh clean smell

Primrose53 Thu 11-Dec-25 16:41:16

My late Dad loved the stuff and regularly gargled with it. He never missed a day’s work and was always healthy.

Galaxy62 Thu 11-Dec-25 18:49:41

Always have a cap of Dettol in my bath.

No can't get TCP here atm

gwyneth28 Thu 11-Dec-25 21:28:50

I've been buying TCP at Home Bargains.

Does anyone have any idea why Remegel, an antacid with the consistency of an opal fruit was discontinued during the pandemic? I’ve never been able to find out. I cannot use the chalky chewable tablets which is all you can buy other than the ludicrously expensive Gaviscon liquid. Luckily don’t take it that often.

Most pharmacies sell their own version of Gaviscon and it is much cheaper. Less than half price. Superdrug, Boots and Tesco all sell it.

I never used TCP. or Germolene, if I must it is Dettol or Surgical Spirit. Never used Gavusvon but Boots have good alternatives to most things,

I hope you find some soon, I love it and it always gets rid of a sore throat quickly. When I was a child I used to love the TCP blackcurrant pastilles and would probably eat too many. I don’t know why they were discontinued. It seems it is like Marmite you either love it or hate it.
