I’ve just made my bread sauce ready to freeze for CD.

It occurred to me that this is a love or hate kind of dish.

My mother only ever added water or milk to a packet🤮.

The real thing is so delicious.

Do you love it or hate it?

Yes love it but it’s a packet! We will have condiments galore to please everyone but none homemade I’m afraid. Cranberry, bread, (son), apple ( grandaughter 🙄) tomato ketchup ( other grandaughter) and always extra salt and pepper for me! All processed…but hey it’s Christmas!

LOVE IT!! I actually like the packet mix. I'm the only one that eats it though.

Labradora Thu 18-Dec-25 14:55:25

Love it !
So filling though.
I don't think we'll do it this year because probably a non-trad Xmas dinner.

Nannapat1 Thu 18-Dec-25 14:53:36

I love it, now the only one that does. Has to be home made: I tried supermarket ready stuff last year and it was awful so I shall make my own!

Indiebee Thu 18-Dec-25 14:46:26

It's delicious if home made! Absolutely it's not wet bread - are you making it all wrong???! Add onion, cloves, cinnamon, cream and butter to the breadcrumbs and steeped milk. As a pp said up thread, start with Delia's Christmas recipe and tweek it up if you wish.

I’ve never had bread sauce either.

grandMattie Thu 18-Dec-25 14:37:29

Loathe it! Sorry. (And nothing will change my mind!)

Peaseblossom Thu 18-Dec-25 14:34:36

Bazza I always thought it sounded weird and I never fancied it, but then I had it at my sister's years ago that she had made and it was really nice, but I wouldn't fancy it if it wasn't home-made.

Pinkrinse Thu 18-Dec-25 14:33:37

No, it’s 🤢 revolting

pluckyluckyme Thu 18-Dec-25 14:32:31

Love it as long as it is home-made. Have not had it for for years though either.

Bazza Thu 18-Dec-25 14:31:43

None of my family like bread sauce, turkey, Christmas pudding, brandy butter ,Christmas cake or cranberry sauce, all the things that make Christmas dinner to me. Chicken is turkey substitute and I can live without the rest except cranberry sauce. No point making or buying it just for me.

labazs Thu 18-Dec-25 14:28:53

yummy trouble is I am vegan but my hubby does have a festive lunch but in 10 years I have never ever asked him if he likes bread sauce! if he does I must get some I may be able to get a cheeky taste!

Claribell Thu 18-Dec-25 14:26:20

Love it. A delicious must have with chicken and Turkey.

SparklyGrandma Thu 18-Dec-25 14:10:16

No. 🥺

SueDoku Thu 18-Dec-25 14:10:14

Yuk. That is all. (I'm in the cranberry camp & make the stuffing myself).

Love it! It’s part of the Christmas dinner for us

dalrymple23 Thu 18-Dec-25 13:57:39

Agree with you GD: utterly grim stuff. Bread is for a sandwich or a piece of toast and nothing more!

Skye17 Thu 18-Dec-25 13:52:33

I have to admit I’ve never tried it. I don’t like the idea though.

Nanny100 Thu 18-Dec-25 13:52:22

Oh! I absolutely adore it. Bread sauce and the stuffings are the best part of Christmas dinner😛

Sadie5803 Thu 18-Dec-25 13:52:04

Something that ive never bothered with, been doing meals for 47 years and no one has ever mentioned it, but each to their own

Sanmrbro Thu 18-Dec-25 13:50:06

Love my own home made bread sauce, clove stuffed onion, bay leaf etc. Packet stuff is yuk.

Marmin Thu 18-Dec-25 13:46:19

I have bought a white loaf for the first time in years so I can make bread sauce in advance of the big day.
Thanks for the prompting!

Lupatria Thu 18-Dec-25 13:44:10

i make it every year from scratch. i use the recipe from the dairy diary cookbook which i've had for many many years but i add more breadcrumbs as i don't like a thin sauce.
i also make my own cranberry sauce from scratch with a "spot" of port in it.
but i've never attempted making stuffing. this year i'
ve bought a packet of chestnut and cranberry stuffing - thank you paxo.

AlpineGranny Thu 18-Dec-25 13:40:56

100% yes. Love it with turkey and chicken. Always make my own. The packet ones are really salty.

Visgir1 Thu 18-Dec-25 13:18:14

My mum never liked it, so we never had it.
I don't think I have ever eaten it and tbh I don't fancy it either.
