They aren't my family, I barely know them. Thinking about it Id probably pass one on the street without knowing who she was.

I've got a husband, 4 kids, 8GC, 2 siblings, 3 nephews/nieces, 21 cousins and loads of their children not to mention 5 great nephews and nieces.

Why do I need to send cards and presents to another group of people I barely know? Maybe some people need more family, I don't.

We're quite happy with mulled wine, our children bring wine, sticks, cloves, stars, oranges, sugar. Their father makes best.

Allira no I don't particularly. She happens to have given birth to someone my child chose as a partner. I live 200 miles away from them and rarely see them, I can't say I know them and one in particular isn't very friendly if I do see her. God only knows why I'm on her card list.

Re diffuser...watch where you put it as the oil in mine tracked out of the container into some papers and annoyingly a whole book of stamps which were then unusable....diffuser got banished!

Other Gran and I exchange a jar of a type of jam or pickle we’ve made that the other Gran wouldn’t have made herself. Lovely interesting surprises.

Depends on your family and whoever else you buy for, I suppose.

If in doubt, I wouldn't buy her anything without trying to find out first via her family what sort of thing she might appreciate or, probably more important, would not like. What are her interests?

Speaking personally, I would genuinely rather be given nothing at all than given many of the things that have been suggested (scented candles or bath/shower products!!!).
I'm sorry, OP, as I know that isn't very helpful, and you did ask for suggestions.

Of the things suggested, a planted basket or something along those lines sounds like one of the better ideas to me, but all these things are a matter of personal taste.
Or arrange for some flowers to be delivered to her home after she returns - you could give her a home-made voucher on Christmas day that says when they will be delivered, and that will show that you haven't simply forgotten to get her anything.

I felt quite out of it at fitness class this morning.

Others were talking about how much they had to do, someone had been round 3 supermarkets and still hadn’t got everything.

One DH had offered to vacuum, the wife had already done it, but of course that was still another job for next week.

It all seemed a bit competitive, who was the busiest?

I didn’t ask about presents or who was hosting on the big day.

We shall go up to DS’s late morning, he is doing a fancy beef casserole, I said I will supply a home made Yule log and lemon drizzle cake. No presents, at least wrapped up ones, I give them all cash in their bank accounts.

So much fuss is made of it all, I just don’t get it.

Another vote for a planted basket. I make these every year with hyacinths or narcissi and people like them.
However, the travel arrangements matter - this would be a pain to manage if the journey home is on the train.

Well, wine, expensive cheese biscuits and specialist cheeses with unusual chutney might be appreciated!

Not to mention alcohol - ready mixed Negroni, Espresso Martini, even Pimms - you can get them in handy one drink sizes and who’s counting?

Totally agree and please don’t anyone ever give me another scented candle or a scarf or chocolates. I’d sooner have an Amazon voucher so I can purchase more books for my Kindle. I am an artist and wish people would stop giving me paint and pencils but the pad of very expensive paper was gratefully received.

In response to the OP - last Christmas I was given a really lovely pair of soft, warm gloves with a fluffy trim at the wrist, something I’d never have bought for myself. I love them!

Please be aware, if buying scented candles for anyone with pets, the scent can be dangerous for cats and dogs.

I don’t know how onerous is her caring duties are, but she may not get much time to herself. I’d buy a really nice shower wash - one that leaves the bathroom smelling lovely afterwards. That budget would buy a really nice one. One of my favourites is Elemis Frangipani shower cream.
Or a lovely hand wash - if you have to wash your hands quite often it’s nice if the product smells good. I often buy White Company sets as gifts - hand wash and handcream. My favourite is Flowers, which is their original fragrance I think. People always seem to like it.

Does the other Granny lives close by kirkubbin? If so, could you pledge to give some time to sit with her DH for an hour or so whilst she has some time to herself?

I will be spending Christmas with my co-granny and her OH at DD’s house this year. I’ve known her a long time and they don’t make as big a deal about Christmas as we do so although I want to get her something nice I know she would not want me to spend very much.
I’ve settled for a scented candle from a local craft shop and a charity shop scarf. Her style is boho chic and she heartily approves of charity shop gifts.
I don’t know her OH all that well but he’s a bit of a foodie so I’ve bought him some local honey and marmalade (made by people with special needs)
