We don't usually see much of her but I've been told she will be there at Christmas this year and has bought me a nice present and a bottle of spirits for grandad.
I'm at a loss as to what to get her . Spend around £20 /£25.
Any ideas? She's around 70 and caring for her husband who has dementia.

Make up a hamper in a gift bag. Bottle of wine, nice biscuits and savouries. Chocolate truffles.

I will be spending Christmas with my co-granny and her OH at DD’s house this year. I’ve known her a long time and they don’t make as big a deal about Christmas as we do so although I want to get her something nice I know she would not want me to spend very much.
I’ve settled for a scented candle from a local craft shop and a charity shop scarf. Her style is boho chic and she heartily approves of charity shop gifts.
I don’t know her OH all that well but he’s a bit of a foodie so I’ve bought him some local honey and marmalade (made by people with special needs)
🤞🤞they like them. 🤶

I've just made a food basket for an elderly lady .
I put her favourite things in the basket -honey ,jams and marmalades .
I was buying her chocolates ,cakes and biscuits before not knowing that she doesn't like them .
I do think that it's difficult to select gifts for people .

She's only 70! 😲

I'd suggest asking for advice from your son-in-law or daughter-in-law what his/her parents like.

She might appreciate something so that she can pamper herself rather than a joint present too.

A ready made bowl of spring bulbs? Nothing that takes much looking after.

I asked for a bowl of potted hyacinths for Christmas one year.
Both sons bought me one, then watched each other's jealously as they competed to see whose flowers were the best! 🪻🪻

I've just made several food baskets for elderly people.

Honey, jams, marmalades are lovely treats and can be shared.

She’s not an elderly lady - she’s 70!
Younger than many of us - certainly than me.

My eldest DD often makes us cookies (giant-sized!) so we appreciate not just the thought but also the personal effort.

In 78 and if anyone gave me a present for an elderly lady, I’d give them a knuckle sandwich! 😂

Well, wine, expensive cheese biscuits and specialist cheeses with unusual chutney might be appreciated!

Not to mention alcohol - ready mixed Negroni, Espresso Martini, even Pimms - you can get them in handy one drink sizes and who’s counting?

If you’re making up food baskets for this elderly person (who may be younger than you) I’d like smoked salmon, foie gras, tapenade, caviare, Fortnums jam, Oxford marmalade, proper fizz (not cheap prosecco) and BTW I won’t be sharing! .

Allira Wed 17-Dec-25 21:23:06

😂

Not even a marmalade sandwich?

RosieandherMaw Wed 17-Dec-25 21:24:33

Forgot the cheese- Paxton & Whitfield Stilton, Montgomery Cheddar, Peter’s Yard biscuits, and maybe some chocolate truffles.

Allira Wed 17-Dec-25 21:28:36

I already have the Cheddar but have eaten all the biscuits, they never made the basket blush

RosieandherMaw Wed 17-Dec-25 21:31:37

Just found a pic on FB - this would do nicely!

I absolutely agree. I would do the same to anyone who referred to me as ‘sprightly’! Ugh!

I'm spending Boxing day with the other DGPs. Do I need to take a present? I will bring a bottle of something nice and flowers.

crazyH Thu 18-Dec-25 02:18:20

merlogran - so would I 😡

SparklyGrandma Thu 18-Dec-25 04:52:50

The only thing about honey, jam and marmalade is they won’t thank you if they are diabetic. All too sugary.
Posh cookies? Cheese? Posh bubble bath?
