Good morning to everyone, I hope you all survived Christmas Day
A cold but bright day here, DH has gone to the shops, so it's very peaceful! He loves shopping & I hate it as I don't like spending money. I'm currently wearing my Fagin -like mittens indoors as it seems colder inside than out, strangely! Roll-on lunchtime!
I'm going to have some lovely lentil soup, nice bread & tofu today.
Small little pleasures. Best wishes to all & wishing everyone the best day possible. 😊
Good morning all. Cold, dry and sunny in Glasgow is more preferable than the constant rain and high winds.
I don’t appear to have a regular sleep pattern these days, not that it bothers me, I just go with the flow. A few hours sleep, breakfast and like jet lag, I’m asleep again. Not sure what time of day it is. 🤣
I wasn’t looking forward to yesterday but I stayed longer at DD1s than I expected I would. It was a perfectly relaxed day spent with DD1 and her partner, both DGDs, cats and dogs. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Best wishes to all for a pleasant day.
Good morning on St.Stephens Day from Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast.
Excellent Christmas Day, stockings with nice bits and pieces then the meal cooked by DD and DS (DGD couldn’t make this year as away) and I sailed in to enjoy it like the Queen of Sheba.
Paid for by me and I did set the table, make the stuffing/brandy butter/ bread sauce, light the candles etc. so not entirely a lazy so and so.
Turkey crown v good, first time with a turkey without legs!😳
Then the great present reveal. Lots of nice things and a chat with BIL and SIL in the south.
The tradition here is to watch a comedy film in the evening, so Naked Gun was the choice, surrounded by gifts and wrappings as we ate late.
Flying DD returns south today after being Mrs Christmas, she’s so helpful and DS is going to do a few little jobs for me.
I’m looking forward to a nice turkey and cranberry sandwich for lunch and a quiet day.
Thoughts to Susan FGTs and all 🎄🌺
Thank you Grandmabatty.x
Susan that's lovely news about the baby boy.
Good morning from Shropshire.
A lovely day yesterday to be followed by more of the same today but at DD1’s.Feel we got the best deal as only one doggie visitor yesterday and there will be three today!I love them all but all together with the grandchildren can be chaos!
Today would have been my dear nieces birthday, a day we were dreading. We have had a beautiful gift of a baby boy delivered to a member of DD1 and SIL’s family. We will meet him today and all feel he has come to help heal our hearts👶🏼💙
Wishing everyone a good day🦩🌻
Sounds as if most of us had a satisfactory day yesterday and will have a peaceful one today. I have no plans other than to tackle some new books given as presents and search to see if there is any worthwhile television - probably not, so thank goodness for iPlayer and past programmes which are worth seeing again; I have recently watched the Brother Cadfael dramas, good stories, excellent acting and high production values, so a real joy. Have to see what else is lurking in the ether.
Lovely day yesterday with youngest son coming for dinner. Other two have other family arrangements. I always find the build up to Christmas nicer than the actual day. But it was lovely and I’d had an emotional week previous as I retired, it was planned for a while but leaving a place I’d worked fir many years was a but if a wrench. Anyway all good and plan a tidy up day today and a good tidy up of our fridge which is bursting!
I was the same brook. I went back to sleep and have woken from a dream thinking the day was over and I'd slept through it. Not quite!
Harrigran your day sounds particularly lovely, with the music.
Marydoll you must have trained DD well! Time to relax.
Good Morning from a bright, but cold Durham. A good day yesterday with DD2 and family, followed by catch-up video calls from DD1 and DGS1, thanking me for their gifts. Not a Christmas fan, so I’m pleased it’s all over for another year.
I’ve kept DD2’s Little Dog here and as I’ve no plans today, I’ll give him morning and afternoon walks. Plenty of leftovers, so no meals to plan or prep.
Best wishes to all. X
Good Boxing Day morning, Michael and all GNs from a sunny but cold South Yorkshire. There is frost on the slates. I am late this morning - I slept a straight eight hours last night, went to the bathroom this morning and then slept another two! Unheard of! Yesterday was a long, far too sedentary day for me though I had a walk to stretch my legs in the morning. Lunch was delicious, washed down with a couple of glasses of champagne, then we watched a very silly film on tv, played some games and ate more food!
The menfolk are going to football this afternoon and DD and I may have a walk in the woods before I go home. I’ll be away no later than half past three so that I shalln’t have to drive in the dark.
Have the best day you can folks.
Good morning from a bright, sunny but very cold Black Country.
Lovely Christmas day with some of the family. DD cooked a delicious Christmas Lunch, SIL cooked a small turkey and chicken in the big pizza oven outside. Cooked to perfection to my surprise!
Mum opened my presents, then when we dropped her home, had no memory of opening them, and was surprised all over again!
We always agree not to buy much as we go away in January as our Christmas present to each other. As usual MrJ's offerings were much more. I have tickets to see Paddington the Musical with an overnight stay in London! Makes my offerings look miserly
Lazy day today, I didn't wake up until 8.30, Mr is still in bed with his cuppa. Smoked Salmon with scrambled eggs for a brunch, then later the Ham, with salad, pickles etc.
Walk on the local Hills later, to work off the excess.
Wishing you all the best Boxing Day possible.
Good morning Mick and all GN's on a very chilly Boxing Day, from Co Durham. I have been awake and up since 5ish, but am only now getting back to any sort of routine. Read all the posts and it sounds as though most people have had a good christmas with family and friends.
I had a lovely day being the guest and so not responsible for cooking the dinner or anything else much. For sone reason, which I could not fathom out, I kept getting a rather dizzy spell, where the room seemed to swirl around and I had to hold onto something to reassure myself that I was not actually spinning myself. I have had this sort of feeling only rarely with a sort of migraine, which had been rather horrible , but on this occasion no pain, just the rather weird feeling and no, not due at all to much alcohol! I was happy to listen to radio 3 quietly and as I was as usual quite creaky took a while to get up and dressed etc.
I rang my son and family and sadly for him, he was still coping with awful toothache, which of course was taking the shine off the day, but other than that they were all ok and going to Louise s family for dinner etc. So we took our time getting up and sorted, and then had a splendid christmas dinner of roast lamb with roast potatoes, parsnips, and onions and lots of lovely vegetables with it. The lamb was melt in the mouth and much enjoyed, especially as on your own you do not cook a big enough piece for it to be so good. We had some lovely wine with it, but have left the christmas pudding for today. What a difference from my childhood. I remember my mother getting anxious if the sermon went on too long on christmas morning as the pudding would have been left in the copper and she hoped that it would not have boiled dry! These days with microwaves you can wait until the last minute to decide if you want any. That used to be our only taste of alcohol as a child, which was as much brandy butter as we would be allowed to put on the pudding!
So we chatted and enjoyed watching Shaun the Sheep, and listening to much lovely music on radio 3, and in the evening we watched Call the Midwife, which with its rather unlikely dash off abroad by many of the nuns allowed a 2 place situation to be shown, but just the sort of thing to watch with very little critical eye. We had a very nice day, no problems, - apart from the minor bit of me feeling dizzy - the food was lovely and no arguments. Ah a christmas day to remember. (I always wonder why there are so many war films etc on christmas day, do the words peace to all men mean nothing or cant they find enough worth putting on that isnt just mawkish slosh or people being killed Enough of that on the news. )
Today we are just taking things gently, I shall not be dashing off to buy a few emeralds and rubies and tvs and computors in the sales, so I shall not be fighting my way to any town or city either today or tomorrow. I will be thinking about going home, catching up on what didnt get done before christmas and then starting to look around to decide what and how to move things to make life a bit easier. Today I need to start using my new little buggy and learning how to get it in and out of the car and set it up properly and become proficient at it and to begin to trust it to take me where I want to go.
Sounds as though most of us had a decent day. I like the idea of the champagne in the chalice GrandMattie, over the years I have taken communion in various places and with various offerings , from a rather severe branch of methodism which had probably ribena or something but nothing alcoholic to having wine brought by the priest from the Lebanon to Damascus and words spoken in Aramaic and allsorts in between. GrannyIvy, dont you find that you look back and think how you managed to conjure up a meal from scratch for surprise visitors and family , at very little metal cost , yet now it is a major effort and can be a worry? Partly because my son lives quite a way away from me now, I find myself doing a lot of casseroles, so that they will be ok whatever time they arrive and I can prepare it early, and then not get so worried about if I have remembered everything. Bellasnana glad you had a good day and it certainly sounds a lot warmer than here, could do with some sunshine definitely. Karmalady glad that your drive went off well and that like your chosen name you are now indeed calmer and can enjoy getting back to normal .Jaxjacky, glad that you have been able to enjoy christmas day and are on the mend day by day.
Wishing everyone another good day, and it will be probably more relaxing when the christmas meals and events have all been navigated well, so enjoy your days well earned rest today.
Good morning from the NE where it is dry and not too cold.
Yesterday was a lovely family day. DD and SIL came early afternoon followed by DS, DIL and GD2. GD1 called to see her BF and then drove to mine.
The girls' faces were a delight to see when they opened my gifts to them.
DD and SIL helped with dinner, we had turkey and a no turkey crown which was tastier than the real meat.
After dinner GD2 played the piano and then some of us joined her in the music room to sing carols. Sadly she was unable to sing solo this year as this vile cold has left her hoarse.
DD and SIL stayed over and DS and family left about 10.30, two GDs in one car so that they could play their choice of music and DIL drove DS because he had a glass of wine with dinner.
DD and SIL will be off to see his brother today and I will have a quiet day in front of the TV.
Enjoy your Boxing day.
Good morning from another bright and no doubt very chilly as it was yesterday.
We had a lovely day just the 2 of us and little dog. I have wondered sometimes about going out for lunch on Christmas Day but know how much I would miss the 2 fridges full of delicious leftover.
Today some of those will be eaten by DS and tribe and the rest will keep us in meals until the beginning of next week.
Hope all enjoy Boxing Day however you are planning to spend it.
Good morning everyone !
I don’t usually come on this thread , because I don’t stir till about 9.30
Spent Xmas day with my GS’s girlfriends’s family. You couldn’t wish to meet nicer people . The ‘cook’, gf’s father produced the nicest Xmas meal I’ve had in a long while. There was turkey and gammon. I opted for gammon - it was cooked to perfection
BUT the downside - the Dad insisted on me trying out different ‘shots’, and me being the crowd pleaser , drank everything that was thrown at me 😂. I don’t know what they were called.
And this comes back to why I am up so early.
With all that alcohol going down my throat, I have woken up with a giant sore throat , nothing that a saline gargle won’t cure.
P.S. I don’t usually drink a lot. 2 glasses of wine, that’s me.
But yesterday, the hosts were so generous with their time and ‘spirit’, you just couldn’t say no. That’s my excuse.
Enjoy Boxing Day and the rest of the holidays.
Good morning and happy St. Stephen’s Day.
Yesterday was quiet and peaceful. Dinner was lovely and the day passed by nicely.
Today is a different ‘kettle of fish’. Going to DS1’s at lunchtime where all the family will be gathered for the rest of the day.
15 in total. I’ll take lemon cheesecake and sausage rolls, plus a varied cheeseboard.
I hope you all have a lovely day. 🙏
Good morning everyone from a grey and misty Inverness
I woke up early about 6ish, got a cup of tea and then fell back asleep until now. We had a lovely day yesterday with the family, it’s much quieter today, just the two of us so we can take it easy and do as we please.
Good to hear you’re steadily improving Jax
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good morning all, it's 3"C here in Glasgow.
I cannot believe it, apart from one coughing episode, I slept all night! A Christmas niracle!
We had such a happy day yesterday. There is always tension, between my two sons, but they behaved impeccably. The turkey cooked by DD, the first time I have relinquished control, was the tastiest I"ve ever eaten.
I have decided to abdicate!
DD said she could not believe, that in the past, I had cooked Christnas dinner, while working, looking after three children, a housebound mother and studying for exams.
I can't believe it either!😂
DD had the bright idea of laying out the brunch in the dining room, to prevent Babydoll fingering food. It didn't work, she can now reach the dining table.🙈
I was a bit upset when DD said that Dollie had got her first phone from Santa and had phoned her and SIL, but not us. It turned out, that my phone was on silent.
DH spoiled me with gifts as did my children.
The biggest laugh was the garden statue,Roman soldier, I had bought for DH,
Much to SIL's annoyance, he fas been residing in his office, since I bought him months ago.
He was too large to hide down here and and also too large for SIL's office.
I couldn't find DH, for the present opening, then I found him out in the garden, (in slippers) rearranging the other statues, to give Hadrian/Trajan/ Maximus, place of honour.😂 We cannot agree on a name.
Today will be a quiet one. I struggled to get through yesterday, trying not to let my children see how unwell I am. DD and SiL stayed overnight, but will be away after breakfast. The only live tens minutes away!
We aways play a board game and when DH said he had bought National Lampoon's Monopoly, we were delighted.....
Until we discovered it was a travel version. We were hysterical, the board was made of flimsy cloth, there were cards missing and no rules.
DD spent most of the time on the phone, checking the rules!!
Poor deaf DH was oblivious, he was so pleased with his purchase. 😍
I didn't see the news yesterday, so was unaware of the swimming tragedy. Those poor families.😪
Wishing you a pleasant Boxing Day, especially the mountaineers and their carers.💕
DD has just appeared to ask for my breakfast choice. I am indeed being spoiled.😍
Good morning all from a frosty Black country.
Yesterday was a quiet one just the two of us, today we are off to DS so will be noisier with the boys.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans, thoughts with those who are struggling.☀️
Good morning everyone from the East Coast it’s looking like it’s going to be a bright day.
Yesterday was really pleasant we visited our DD and GDs and what absolute little Christmas angels they are. We then took some leftover Christmas dinner enough for two days to mums and had a chat.
By the time we were back home DS and GS were there and GS had opened his gifts that were under the tree. DH cooked hot gammon and egg sandwiches and later his sister and her partner joined us to exchange gifts and we had a drink and a chat. By 5 o’clock we were alone to put our feet up and watch Christmas tv. A very chilled day really. We had video chats with DS and GS in China too.
This afternoon we have been invited to be with our best friends and also our DC and GC have been invited too which is very kind of them. I think DH and I will finish off our Christmas dinner leftovers today for lunch. I actually cooked enough for 16 people and hate throwing food away.
Enjoy your Boxing Day if you can sending my best wishes and hoping the day brings sparks of joy🎄💐
