Good Morning Boxing Day 26th December 2025
(49 Posts)Morning Mick, goodness you’re early today. Morning All. Our corner of Somerset is forecast a dry day with a cutting wind.
I’ve been awake since 2. Why? No idea really, it’s just how I am.
Yesterday didn’t quite go to plan timing-wise because of blended family complications. No matter, we got there and it was such a pleasure to cook for our son in our home on Christmas Day after a flying visit from a granddaughter who was eating elsewhere. A gentle, happy sort of a day for us, including a video call from our not so littlest and his weary parents, less so for our son who was pulled every which way.
We’re invited to a walk on the sea front today. The wind will be more than cold, still a yellow warning here. It’s what a friend calls a lazy wind because it goes straight through folk rather than around. Mr C wants to go, I’m happy to if a little concerned about him in that sort of wind. We’ll seek shelter if we need to and wait for the younger ones to head back.
Lunch is still uncertain number-wise, enough leftovers and other bits for a small army lurk in the fridge, we’ll take things as they come.
Hope yesterday was as you’d all hoped it would be and this day is kind to us all.
Good Boxing Day morning Mick, Cornergran and all who follow from a dry and dark north Wales where I’m enjoying a chamberpot of Yorkshire Gold ☕️ - most welcome after too much fizz yesterday!
I hope the day went well for you all, whether with friends and family or alone, we enjoyed our 🦃 and all the trimmings very much as we never have a roast dinner in December so 😋anticipation is immense!
Trotting to Dad’s this morning with a huge portion and a fruit crumble as he didn’t want to leave his home and join us here at PGTowers☹️ and my brother offered to deliver a plateful at lunchtime!
Joining friends for 🍸 and canapés this evening then a quiet weekend in store - can’t wait for my head clearing walk for a 🗞️ in the morning…medicine for my soul 🤗
Good morning from Bristol. Happy Boxing Day to you all. I hope you all had the day would have wanted, yesterday.
Mine was good - I’m always a bit anxious as I was scarred in my childhood , by the grownup’s behaviours and dreadful arguments.
I nearly burst out laughing in church when DD, who was officiating for communion, go out a bottle of champagne, popped it loudly and poured it into the chalices instead of the usual fortified red wine. 😆
Generally, the whole day went well, with the two girls being the only youngsters. Presents were exchanged and, either everyone was polite, or they genuinely liked them.
The food was lovely, and DD got a pice of turkey for her MiL and me, neither vegetarian. I would have been happy without, but it was delicious. (I’m also getting what’s left to take home!)
I spoke to my DGS. Although we were extremely close, he shut down when his dad Philip died, then I moved and had less chance of seeing him, it was really nice to hear from him.
I’m going home this morning. I have become unused to being with people for lingering, but have had a really good time.
Hugs and general goodwill to all wo/men, especially to the ones in distress, and to the fgts and md in particular.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🎄🫂❤️🦩🦩
Good morning from a calmer but chilly Torbay.
It was bitterly cold yesterday morning when I went out briefly to move my car to a space closer to my flat. As I reached the bottom of the five steps, I thought I was having some kind of funny turn but then realised a particularly strong gust had very nearly knocked me off my feet! Needless to say, we hibernated for the rest of the day!
Pantglas: is it possible to have too much fizz?!
cornergran: please take care if you venture on to the seafront. Two men went missing, presumed drowned, yesterday at Budleigh Salterton. All the traditional Boxing Day swims along the South Devon coast have been cancelled today because of the stormy seas.
I enjoyed the opening of the Carol Service hosted by the Princess of Wales and thought she spoke meaningfully but was disappointed by the soloists, two of whom seemed to have no idea about breathing or phrasing when singing. The choir sounded beautiful - I guess I’m a traditionalist!
Have a good Boxing Day, wherever you are! ⭐️🎁🎄🧑🏻🎄⭐️
Good morning everyone from a chilly Cambridgeshire.
Today is our family get together to celebrate Christmas. We rarely all meet up together and I’m a little nervous. I’m not used to cooking for 10 and DH is poorly so my second in command is on very light duties but hopefully all will go well. I’m not as prepared as usual due to unexpected family events leading up to the festive time but we will get there.
Happy Boxing Day to all have the best day possible 🎄⭐️
Good morning from Malta where another sunny day is forecast with a high of 19°C.
Had a lovely day yesterday. Went to Mass after which over to DD3’s where the boys were very excited and DD3 was having anxiety about where all these new toys are going to live!
She did a lovely meal, fish for me as I’m not a meat-eater. DGS2 decided he preferred my fish to his turkey so we shared.
The boys were both very sweet and strong feelings were kept to a minimum, thankfully!
I spoke to DD1 in DC and DD2 and DGD in Nashville. Oh how I wish we could have been together, but thanks to technology, better than nothing.
Everything back to normal here today, it doesn’t drag on for a week, so I’m meeting my friend for a coffee.
Wishing you all a good day.🎄
Feeling sad about the poor swimmers that are missing. What a dreadful thing to happen. My thoughts are with all those connected to the tragedy.
I had a lovely day yesterday. Visiting both sons and family and then home for a quiet Christmas lunch for two.
We did consider going for a walk as the sun was shining, but we decided to do absolutely nothing in the end.
Take care everyone, hope another day of festivities goes well whatever you do
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's 2° but feels icy underfoot.
I have just ventured to the kitchen to make myself a large cuppa.
While I was out at my friend's all female lunch party yesterday, Santa delivered presents under my tree which I've not opened yet.
I suspect DD - but didn't she know I was out?
The party went on until 8pm with a hilarious team game called casserole, a combination of the name game and charades. One lady fell fast asleep on the floor cuddling her 15yr old terrier.
My veggie Wellington was delicious so I must stop cursing Jamie Oliver easy it was not
Today I am invited to the other DGP for lunch where I shall try to behave myself.
I hope everyone had a happy Christmas.
Good morning from a very chilly spot on a hillside in south Glos, I am so grateful that the house is warm.
I saw about the missing swimmers Ashcroft, it does make me wonder about the mentality of those who ignore warnings to stay out of the water because of treacherous conditions. So sad.
Yesterday was quiet, DS and family WhatsApp videoed which was lovely, they’ve had a great day too.
The three bird roast was very tasty, plenty left for today too so no cooking for me! The dogs enjoyed their Christmas dinner too.
We’ll take them for a good walk this morning, I’ll be well wrapped up and enjoy being outside.
Then I might do some arty stuff, listen to an audiobook and enjoy the day.
I hope it goes well for you all 🌹
Sounds like a great time was had by you all, Grammaretto! How brilliant!
Ashcombe not Ashcroft , sorry!
🙄😁
Good morning from s somerset, cold and bright today
Motorway driving was very straightforward yesterday and for the first time ever, I wore my rnib over -glasses with pale yellow lenses and put a cap on my head, one with a big visor. I had a very comfortable driving experience all the way home, that combo stopped me being blinded by the sun. The strong cross winds barely affected my sturdy car
It was a fabulous day, wonderful gathering and wonderful food, very good chat and all were very happy. Tiny rescue dog sat on my lap before lunch, the two springer pups are very much bigger and have just finished puppy training, very old pony grazing in the sun. Such a beautiful tranquil area overlooking the usk valley
I feel more `normal` today, I don`t like the pre-Christmas hype and am glad all that is over for another year
Happy peaceful boxing day
I shall definitely do a bit more with my skirt today, probably prepare the pockets and join back to front. Knitting, spinning, walking and the sourdough starter will be ready to use by tonight. I will mix. stretch and fold the dough and leave it in a banneton in the fridge tonight, to bake tomorrow morning
Good morning from a very chilly N.Bucks.
We had a lovely ‘grown up’ Christmas Day at DD2s, seven of us. Good food and a few games with lots of laughter.
DH took his mum home and stayed overnight as she cannot manage our stairs. So I am pootling around on my own preparing for the day
Today they will all be back including DD3 and family. Not such a gentle day with the younger DGS !
We are so lucky to have family who live close and enjoy spending time with us.
Good wishes to all especially those who are struggling in any way, May the day bring some joy to all.
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 4° and dry. It sounds like folk had a good Christmas Day. Grammaretto yours sounds particularly funny! We had a lovely slow morning then enjoyed dinner at dds. The boys behaved beautifully. There was one incident when dgs2 leaned on a radiator cover which tipped and sent him, a Christmas decoration and an oil burner thing to the ground. He wasn't hurt but got a fright and howled a bit. He soon recovered though. We left at half nine and I had some fizz once home.
I've no idea what's on the cards for today. I might be taking ds back to Stirling or he might stay another day. I have enough food for either eventuality. At the moment I'm still in bed which is unusual for me. I'll go with the flow. Have a good day all.
Good morning from chilly South Lanarkshire.
Happy St. Stephen’s Day, thinking of my parents who were married seventy five years ago today.
We had a lovely day yesterday. Spending the morning at DD’s then going on to DS’s at lunchtime worked well. DS cooked, I was his sous chef and kept him on track as he is very prone to being distracted. It was late when we got home, tired but content.
Today we are back to DD’s house for a chilled day of leftovers, cheese, chocolate and board games.
A dreadful thing to happen Ashcombe, I’m so sorry to hear that.
Wishing you all, as ever, the best day possible.
RosesandLilac
*Ashcombe * not Ashcroft , sorry!
🙄😁
No apology necessary, RosesandLilac. DH said that you must have been thinking of the late Peggy Ashcroft who had a theatre named in her honour in Croydon.
Good Morning everyone from the south coast. The strong wind has dropped but it is still chilly.
Just the two of us yesterday and we had the lovely peaceful day I had wished for. Shared memories of family members who have gone before and lots of reminiscing of our early days together. Lots of laughter too - we have always enjoyed that!
Spent more time than usual in the kitchen preparing a three bird roast ( I thought it a little dry but DH said it was delicious) and lots of side dishes. Plenty left for today. Realised why my cooking day to day has been greatly reduced. It is hard physically on aches and pains.
Several chats, and whatsapps with all our family and went to bed very happy and grateful for the life we have, feeling safe and warm and content. Wish the same for all GNs.
Morning all on this freezing Boxing Day from West Oxfordshire.
Yesterday was fun. Elder son and his family stayed for the day; our daughter will go back home tomorrow. Elder son will be back tomorrow and drop off our granddaughter. She will stay for four nights, which we are looking forward to to.
All the food was delicious yesterday. I am pleased to have done so much in advance. Today we will be eating mainly leftovers and relaxing.
OH gave me a new iPad so I spent a while last night setting it up. So much easier than I expected. He would like my old one so I’ll have to delete everything on it!
It was good to talk to my brother and sister in Australia. It sounds like it was quite hot over there. No roast turkey dinner! Barbecue and lots of prawns and lobster.
Have a good day everyone. Special thoughts for the FGT2S.
Good morning everyone 👋
A lovely day yesterday, Father Christmas was extremely generous to all our little people, and we had some beautiful gifts also.
We are off to my sisters in Hertfordshire with DD and The Imp, for lunch out and we shall sleep there.
Enjoy your day 🎄🤶🏻
Thank you for your concern ash, but don’t worry. The wind has dropped to the usual level here and we’ll be well away from the water’s edge. If it seems unsafe there’s a large park we could go to instead. We were all saddened to read about the two lost swimmer yesterday. The local swim was cancelled and thankfully all swimmers took notice.
Morning all from a cold S Hants. A wonderful day yesterday, my daughter took over the kitchen to prepare a delicious lunch, all presents were just right and we were all well.
MrJ took my daughter and grandchildren home about 4 then opened a beer.
No plans today, my hip is improving each day and the UTI is on its way out 🤞.
Have a pleasant day whatever you’re doing, my thoughts are with those still struggling.

Good morning everyone from a dry and cold mid Essex. Yesterday was a lovely cold sunny day. I wasn’t much help to DD1 but managed to stand and peel parsnips and prep them for roasting. An improvement on last year though!
Present opening seemed to last all day, DD1’s daughters have far too much (to my elderly mind) DD2 is a bit more restrained with her two although they aren’t deprived!!
DD2 and family went off to her sister in law’s late afternoon.
A visit to friends is planned for this morning, not sure what’s happening after that. I think I’m staying at DD1’s until tomorrow, but not sure.
I hope you all had as good a day as possible yesterday.
Thinking of those with worries of any kind.
Enjoy Boxing Day everyone.
Good morning from a chilly W Kent. A happy day yesterday with DD2 and family, although DGD2 not feeling great. I wonder if they will all come here today or not. Anyway things to do,all the best
Good morning everyone from the East Coast it’s looking like it’s going to be a bright day.
Yesterday was really pleasant we visited our DD and GDs and what absolute little Christmas angels they are. We then took some leftover Christmas dinner enough for two days to mums and had a chat.
By the time we were back home DS and GS were there and GS had opened his gifts that were under the tree. DH cooked hot gammon and egg sandwiches and later his sister and her partner joined us to exchange gifts and we had a drink and a chat. By 5 o’clock we were alone to put our feet up and watch Christmas tv. A very chilled day really. We had video chats with DS and GS in China too.
This afternoon we have been invited to be with our best friends and also our DC and GC have been invited too which is very kind of them. I think DH and I will finish off our Christmas dinner leftovers today for lunch. I actually cooked enough for 16 people and hate throwing food away.
Enjoy your Boxing Day if you can sending my best wishes and hoping the day brings sparks of joy🎄💐
