It’s down …..the trees off for another year A good hoover up and the plants all gone back where they should be
It’s very empowering putting all back in the right places (well it is for me ) 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’ll leave mine up till after New Year’s Day. Then I’ll be fed up of them and a little sad to take them down as I do love Christmas. This one being especially emotive for me as I retired. I do hope I settle into retirement as I did want to retire. New year new days to fill and new adventures. Bring it on.

I like that too Bluebell. This year, for some reason my OH doesn't feel the same, so they're still up for the time being. We do have 2 young grandchildren who might come to visit, so it's worth leaving it up for their sake.

Grandmabatty Sun 28-Dec-25 13:33:53

Well done Bluebell! I can't decide whether to take mine down tomorrow or wait til 2nd. The tree and decorations have been up since the beginning of December and I'm heartily fed up of looking at them.

Bridie22 Sun 28-Dec-25 13:35:34

Mines coming down later today, be glad for normality!!

eazybee Sun 28-Dec-25 13:44:08

There are no rules, but there are traditions.
The twelve days of Christmas. Epiphany.
Sad to pack it all up so soon.

Grannybags Sun 28-Dec-25 14:39:38

Not just you Bluebell. I took ours down yesterday. I love it!

I m happy, and ‘you with it up’ for another two or three or four weeks are happy, what’s not to like
Each to their own

My DD has just taken all of hers down too. Some bits of furniture were moved to accommodate the tree in the living room and they’re all back in their spots . She has hoovered and mopped all the floors . She can now relax .

I leave mine up 12th night in honour of my late brother. His birthday was the 7th Jan and as a child would say it wasn't fair that all the decorations where taken down before his birthday. So it became a family tradition to celebrate his birthday on the 6th. I always think of him taking the tree down and those happy carefree days.

rubysong Sun 28-Dec-25 15:47:31

Ours will come down on 6th. 12th night was traditionally the great celebration, though it won't be in our house, but like the decs up for 12th night. I may well have to dismantle my mantlepiece decoration as some of it is drying out, though I do water it, and some of the berries are dropping.

Allira Sun 28-Dec-25 15:47:33

We were really late putting any decorations out so they'll stay until 12th Night now.

Now, should they come down on the 5th or the 6th?
I used to think it was the 6th but someone said no, must be before the 6th ie on the 5th.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 28-Dec-25 15:49:46

Our twig tree will be packed away probably the first Monday in January (5th).

The candle bridge can stay put until 2nd February. gramdMattie told me about Candlemas about 3 years ago - I like it’s soft warm lights and it reminds me of my late dear mum as she bought it for me years ago.

When the Christmas decorations are down and packed away, then its candles in the kitchen and sitting room along with LED candles in the hallway, landing and dining room.

Anything to brighten the gloom of mid-winter.

I’m with you all the way GG13 but the Nativity scene will stay out till Candlemas and the lights on the bookcase will be on every dreary day up to and including next Christmas!

Fallingstar Sun 28-Dec-25 15:57:03

I would take them down now but my daughters with the grandchildren might call again for new year and they would want them left up for the kids. But New Year’s Day everything goes away. Have not been feeling very Christmassy this year, has been a tough year so will be glad to see the back of it.

AmberGran Sun 28-Dec-25 16:31:39

We didn't even get our tree put up until two days before Christmas, although the window sill, mantlepiece, outside lights and a few other bits were done in the the few days before. We were actually joking that now we had seen the boxes we could put them away again until next year 😄I'm glad we made the effort in the end as it all looks lovely. Everything will stay up until 5th January-ish.

Wyllow3 Sun 28-Dec-25 16:38:41

I never had a tree anyway, some silver sprayed branches all lit up and a few sparkly lights are up. I didnt do it for "Christmas" specifically, it's a seasonal delight and comfort.

No rules therefore, just whatever and whenever pleases me.

and they will probably stay up as long as it gets dark so early including the ones in the bedroom which are nice on these long nights....

except for the ones in the hedge which I put to be neighbourly and they can come down when them across the road take theirs down 🙂

MartavTaurus Sun 28-Dec-25 16:40:29

All the red stuff gone, packed away.

Just the gold for New Year, and I've realised I need to buy some fancy gold napkin rings.

Ashcombe Sun 28-Dec-25 16:42:22

As memtioned by others, our late Queen kept her tree up until Candlemas, which is 40 days after Christmas and celebrates the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the presentation of Jesus in the synagogue. In 2026, it falls on Monday, 2nd February.

Real gold? 😲
Five gold rings? Or more?

I have some silver ones with a kind of gilt trim (could be gold). If only I could find them.

WhiteSwan63 Sun 28-Dec-25 17:03:46

If we weren’t going on holiday I would leave up until about the third of January. I feel sad they are coming down tomorrow. It’s been a lovely time. 🎄 it is nice to get them down and have a good clean.

MartavTaurus Sun 28-Dec-25 17:07:03

Allira along these lines.

If anyone has silver ones here, I could always spray them gold?

Allira Sun 28-Dec-25 17:14:25

Very posh!

Who's coming for dinner (apart from all of us?).

TwiceAsNice Sun 28-Dec-25 17:25:21

Too early yet. Our trees look lovely, completely different and still fresh. They went up the first weekend of December. This year that meant the end of November . One in the living room one in the hall, which is big.

Lots of lights inside and out, grandaughters decorated 3 big windowsills (living room and hall) and this year she put fat tinsel and red bows on the kitchen cupboard tops. We love Christmas in our house and nothing comes down until 12th night . It looks so bare afterwards

Iam64 Sun 28-Dec-25 17:26:50

I always leave mine till 12th night but this year it’s coming down New Year’s Day in the evening.
I’m going away for a week on 2 Jan and don’t want to return to faded Christmas.

I’m hosting the family brunch on New Year’s Day so will leave the tree and decks up till they leave., hopefully by 5. If not for the festive brunch, I’d be packing away tomorrow to make the 2nd easier
