👋 late greeting as I suspect Mick has trotted off as GN was down until now!

Hope you’re all ready to wave goodbye to whatever 2025 brought and looking forward to good news in all departments for the next year 🥂

Best wishes to everyone on this lovely thread x

Good morning everyone from a freezing cold Oxfordshire, -3 when I walked the dog this morning, but a beautiful sunny day now.
I wish you all a good New Years Eve and. Happy and Healthy 2026

Good morning all from South Lanarkshire.

Welcome to all the new posters, I spied a couple of Scots. wink

I’ve been cleaning all morning, this afternoon will be given over to cooking ahead of the family dinner tomorrow.

I’m not a great one for Hogmanay celebrations but will stay up to see in the New Year with DH who is a bit put out not to be in hospital today. I’m hoping that he will hear next week when his surgery will be.

All the very best to you all.

Good afternoon to you all. We arrived home from our cruise about 11.30 last night so have been busy emptying cases and starting the washing. DH has been shopping.
My very best wishes for a Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year to you all. Enjoy this evening whatever you may be doing xx

All the very best for 2026

Good morning all.
I think many of us would be discombobulated by not being able to connect this morning.
One of my first actions every morning is to log on to GN and when it’s “not there” I feel rather lost, however better late than never so I hope the morning is a good one for us all.

Me too uttb well put!
I read more than post these days.

All the very best everyone for the NY 🥰 🍾

EkwaNimitee Wed 31-Dec-25 12:17:49

Good morning Mick! And A Very Happy New Year to you all!

I arrived back from Spain yesterday evening, ending up on a train packed with folk travelling up from Manchester to Glasgow, the place to celebrate Hogmanay now?

Harris27 Wed 31-Dec-25 12:20:25

Happy new year to all and I hope it’s a good one and healthy for you all. Another lurker.

Good afternoon all from Polmont where it's currently 5° and sunny. It was blooming chilly earlier when I first tried to get on gransnet. I was at Tesco at just after seven this morning but had to scrape the car first as there was a very heavy frost. Tesco was empty which suits me. So I'm all stocked up for New Year. I came home and started cleaning. Then went for a lie down. Up again and I'm finishing off dds tumble drying and emptying and loading the dishwasher before lunch. I have to have all the cleaning and washing done before The Bells. It's a habit engrained in me now, so that'll be the plan. No plans for midnight. I'll probably stay up.
This has been a year of mixed fortunes. We lost mum, I had an accident and damaged my leg but cataract surgery improved my eyesight and my ds is back in touch with family. So not quite an annis horribilis. Regardless, I wish you all a guid new year. I'm specially thinking of those who struggle with illness, their own or family.
Here's to 2026

Good morning/afternoon from the north west Highlands. Sent my husband out for more veggies etc this morning, as we’re due to be snowed in for a week, I believe! Like so many others, I avidly read this thread every morning with my two mugs of builders’ tea and was very put out to find I couldn’t! smile So, may I wish a happy Hogmanay to all and for 2026 to bring us all a little of we would like to have. shamrock

Happy New Year to everyone ,
Thanks Baubles for telling me the favourite thread was on ☺️

Bellasnana Wed 31-Dec-25 12:26:48

Well, it’s good afternoon from Malta now. The weather has been thundery, then sunny and is now looking like rain again. High is 16°C.

Lovely sunny day yesterday. I enjoyed my bit of pampering with my nail appointment.

I’m babysitting the boys tonight but will go straight after my hair appointment this afternoon as it will be difficult to park later on.

Wishing you all the best for the New Year, and thanks to you all for your friendship on this lovely thread.❤️

HelterSkelter1 Wed 31-Dec-25 12:36:51

Happy New Year everyone from a frosty sunny N Surrey. Thicker thermals on now!

dragonfly46 Wed 31-Dec-25 12:39:35

Happy New Year to all my GN friends. We are hoping next year will be better than last!

karmalady Wed 31-Dec-25 12:40:49

Good afternoon from somerset at 2 degrees after -4 overnight. Indoors today, far too cold for older lungs

Lunch is over and I have just downed the last chocolate. I have been pondering how I am going to proceed to get that perfect sourdough, crust crumb and ear. I have written the notes and will likely start in 2 days.

No work today, just faffing and knitting and making sure I eat well and now seeking a decent film to watch while knitting but may as well spin first, I only have another 100g to do on this batch of squish

I do hope that 2026 is a much better year with no nasty surprises

JudyBloom Wed 31-Dec-25 12:42:14

Lovely sunny New Year's Eve, wishing everyone all the very best for 2026! Cheers!

Kalu Wed 31-Dec-25 12:42:24

Good morning all. A false start to the day when there is no access to GN….5.30am, I went back to my cosy bed. Yesterday was beyond cold and I added a heavy bed cover plus electric blanket on to take the chill off.

Thinks for opening up Pants

It’s a wet start to Hogmanay in Glasgow, the weathermen got it wrong again. Only plan today is hairdressers later.

A warm welcome to our newbies.
Happy Hogmanay and all the very best to all for 2026 🔔

Magenta8 Wed 31-Dec-25 12:52:44

Happy New Year everybody. I hope 2026 turns out well for you.

Have a great time all those celebrating Hogmanay.

BlueSapphire Wed 31-Dec-25 12:59:30

Now good afternoon on New Year's Eve, and welcome to a very cold and frosty Northampton. Not.venturing anywhere today and will stay in the warm.

Did my bit of extra shopping yesterday, with a coffee at Costa first - it's the only place available now since our M&S Cafe closed in November. I didn't use to like their coffee, but it appears they've improved a lot. Will make it a regular visit from now on. Sainsbury's and M&S were heaving yesterday, but I got everything I needed, including a nice steak for tonight and a ready to cook M&S rotisserie chicken for tomorrow.

Got my new 2026 kitchen wall calendar out ready to transfer important dates onto it - that's my plan for this afternoon, and will have nice music on in the background, possibly the live Choral Evensong on Radio 3 at 3pm.

Will stay up to watch the fireworks from London on tv tonight, and possibly open a bottle of fizz......

Wishing everyone a good New Year's Eve.

Good afternoon from a gloriously sunny but very cold Bristol.
May I add my own discombobulation to the others’ this morning?
Thank you bellasnanna for opening up. I’m glad you had a sympathetic GP who actually listened to you, MD. Try to rest today (😆) .
My shopping day yesterday was successful if only to get a very nice pair of knee boots for under £20!
There were 10 attendees at the FAB cafe; so it was worth setting up. It was very cold in the church, sadly but it obviously didn’t put people off.
Quiet afternoon, carrying on reading my book “the story of a heart” which is fascinating, about the background to a real heart transplant to a 9 yo., from the time before the donor and family went on her terminal journey, via all the medical advance developments and so on. Harrowing but really interesting read.
May your day be contented, and the welcome to a new year be easy. (My last 5 years have generally been horrible, so I’ve decided that 2026 will be brilliant!🤩)
Carpe diem 🦩🎄🦩❤️🦩🦩

This is the email reply I had from Gransnet
Hello

Thanks so much for getting in touch.
It appears that Gransnet is currently down due to technical issues. Thanks for raising it - we'll have it back up and running as soon as possible.

Good afternoon on the Good morning thread on New Year’s Eve. It has been a year of ups and downs for many of us. I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. May it be a peaceful healthy happy 2026 for all ⭐️🍾🥂🎉

Scapa1 Wed 31-Dec-25 13:45:52

Afternoon all. The first time ever I have tried to get on this thread at 5.3;0am and it was down. Had toothache most of the weekend but very easily got an emergency appointment ment on Monday. The dentist did X-rays and discovered two acute infections and gave me a prescription for antibiotics. Although they calmed the tooth pain down unfortunately later yesterday underneath my eye and right side of my face swelled up. Looked like I had been in a boxing match!!
As a Type 1 diabetic after testing my blood and for ketones this morning and after little sleep I decided I needed to see a doctor. Much to my surprise was given an appointment 30mins later and given much stronger antibiotics. Apparently my sinuses now have an infection causing me problems with my diabetes. Well done the NHS. I did not fancy being in hospital for the New Year.

Hopefully will feel a lot better tomorrow.
Best wishes and a Happy New Year to one and all, may it bring all you hope for and comfort to those suffering.
