Good morning from a sunny WKent and a Happy New Year to all
Stayed up with DH and received updates of the family evenings going on from Kent to Scotland. Far fewer fireworks this year
Quiet day today I think

Good morning from a chilly but dry Torbay with my app suggesting snow is possible within the next few days - a rare sight here!

Thank you, Mick for reliably helping us to start the day throughout the year - it is much appreciated.

You have certainly earned the right to please yourself in retirement, RosesandLilac, after your noble career.

A poignant day for you, Redcar. 💐

DH has a cold which is affecting his asthma and he has left his inhaler in France. 🙄 Fortunately, my local (excellent) pharmacist provided him with a replacement for a small charge, having seen his prescription which he had remembered to bring.

An indoor day seems likely as we’ve plenty of supplies, having made it to Lidl yesterday.

Wishing you you peace and joy in 2026. ⭐️🍾🥂⭐️

Good morning. A bit late today after a late night( early morning).
A dinner with friends and we watched the fireworks from London on TV. Spectacular , but oh my, all that money up in smoke.
I had a wonderful surprise from DH. He has booked for us to go to an Andre Rieu concert in Maastricht at the winter palace next December, something I have always wanted to do.
So a happy start to 2026 for us .
Will come back to read all the new but wish you all a very Happy New Year.

Wishing all the lovely posters, and others, who regularly share their daily ups and downs with us, a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year , particularly hoping and praying that better health is on it’s way for the mountaineers 💝

Wishing everyone a good 2026, and the resilience to deal with both its ups and downs.

Good morning from a frosty and bright Suffolk where I expect it will be very cold today.

We no longer stay up on NYE beyond our usual bedtime and for years now,in our little hamlet of 7 houses there are no young children any more so no fireworks to be heard. Years ago the vicar at the time used to ring the church bells at midnight assisted by DH but that tradition ceased when he moved to another parish.

Messages to and from friends and family,a dog walk later and then a quiet, peaceful day at home…..lovely.

I hope 2026 is a year of good health and contentment for all, especially for those with ongoing struggles.

Thorntrees Thu 01-Jan-26 08:51:08

Wishing everyone a - Happy New Year- from a cold and wet Shropshire.

It is our 54th wedding anniversary today and it was a much better day then than it is today, we are so grateful to still have each.

Thinking of those who are sad, lonely or worried and hoping the New Year brings hope and comfort and some joy to all.

Gingster Thu 01-Jan-26 08:54:12

Happy New Year to you all. May you be healthy, wealthy and wise.

Yesterday I met my friend for a coffee. We couldn’t get into our usual quaint tea rooms as it was so busy, so went off to another cafe which was ‘ok’.

Dd had booked for us and DGD to go to the Panto . Taxi picked us up at 4 for the 5 o’clock show. Oh dear! It started at 3. The staff and head of house couldn’t have been more sympathetic and helpful. They will phone us tomorrow with, hopefully, room for us at another performance over the weekend.
DGD was so good and never made a fuss. Just said to her distraught mum ‘don’t worry, these things happen’. 10 years old and so wise! My little

Taxi driver came back for us and we waited outside looking at the amazing sunset over the sea / estuary . Every cloud…..

Dh was tired so we went to bed at 10. We’re usually at our seaside cottage with friends celebrating the new year. Peaceful , watching the sea with usually a bright bright moon.

Here , it was like a war zone. I’ve never heard so many fireworks in all directions, booming and crashing. It went on for an hour . The dog was fine , safe in her little room and didn’t make a sound.

Today I’ll start taking down the decs and have a good dust and clean up. DS will come and put them back in the loft.

I hope all poorlies will start to feel better and look forward to improved health in the coming year.🙏💐.

Take care all - it’s icy out there 🥶

Happy New Year everyone from beautiful Suffolk. Don't post much but read every day. I am in Suffolk for a few days and must say how beautiful it is. The people who live here are very lucky

Good morning from the NE.
Happy New Year everyone.
DD and SIL came for dinner last night and we stayed up and watched TV until after the fireworks.
DS and family will visit this afternoon, GD has been revising this week and needs a break.
Have a good day.

A very late good morning from Malta where it is gloomy, damp and a high of 13°C forecast.

After my hairdo I went to DD3’s as I was babysitting for them in the evening.

The boys were so sweet, they give so much love and I can’t think of a better way to spend the last day of the year than in their company.

They were asleep by 9pm so I sort of dozed on the sofa and missed midnight here but put the tv on to see the New Year fireworks in London and Edinburgh.

Got to bed around 2am and slept until 9.30! Unheard of but I have no plans today so will just take it easy.

Thoughts with Redcar on what is a sad anniversary for you.💐

Happy birthday to your son, Jax

Marydoll how awful having to go in search of your parcel. I’m glad you managed to retrieve it in the end.

Hope olddudders will feel better Ashcombe, glad he managed to get a replacement inhaler.

Happy anniversary Thorntrees , have a lovely day, you are indeed fortunate to have each other.❤️

Oh dear, Gingster! That was an unfortunate oversight. Hope you managed to get another chance to see the panto at the w/e.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy New Year and may we all be strong enough to take whatever life is going to throw at us! 🥳

Good morning and a Happy New Year to Mick and all who follow from the Black country.
Plenty of fireworks going off but not for to long.
May start to take decorations down today depends how engrossed I am in my book.
Happy Anniversary Thorntrees🥂🍾
Redcar 💐
Safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed ☀️

ginny Thu 01-Jan-26 09:20:31

Happy Anniversary Thorntrees. Thank you Grandmabatty, he booked it as a gift for our 50 th anniversary which is in July.

WhiteSwan63 Thu 01-Jan-26 09:22:27

Good Morning everyone from a very mild but very rainy Madeira. A storm has blown through during the night and it’s still pouring down but we are here and it’s beautiful.
The fireworks we had been wanting to see for so long didn’t disappoint. We stood in Funchal with the fireworks surrounding us. It was very emotional and absolutely spectacular. The many cruise ships were blaring their horns and the atmosphere was brilliant.

We won’t be able to do too much today with the heavy rain but we have a huge balcony where we can relax and we will go for a walk at some point but we will just explore our immediate surroundings today.

Wish all our Gransnet friends a very Happy New Year. 🎉🥂

cornergran Thu 01-Jan-26 09:24:53

Happy anniversary to you both thorntrees.

Sar53 Thu 01-Jan-26 09:29:34

Good morning and a Happy New Year to all Gransnetters.
We went to a New Year's Eve party at our local last night, with friends and had a great evening and a very late night. DH is still asleep.
I'm not sure what today will bring but will probably try to get out at some stage.
Wishing you all the very best for 2026 xx

hollysteers Thu 01-Jan-26 09:34:08

Good morning and a happy new year from a dull northwest coast.
Another quiet day yesterday. I had a long walk into the dunes at the end of the road and on to the shore. Hardly a soul in sight and a cold wind, but felt better for it.
I’m enjoying ploughing through my turkey soup and never being a fan of new year, turned in with a good book whilst the fireworks went off around me. The cat stayed on my bed for a change.
Another at home day today, I’ll be glad when all my various groups get going again, I can get very slothful.

Congratulations Thorntrees and thoughts to Redcar

Good morning and Happy New Year to you all

Raining at the moment in the Black Country, and snow is forecast for later, hopefully just flurries.

No real plans today, just take down the decorations and tidy.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy new year, with loving thoughts to those struggling,

PiscesLady Thu 01-Jan-26 10:00:32
