Good morning from sunny West Sussex where it is cold, like the rest of the country.

We went to bed very late and watching two films. One was Operation Mincemeat which I gave DH on DVD for Christmas 3 years ago. He has a ‘thing’ about going to the effort of putting a DVD on, as opposed to watching any old rubbish on the to channels so I knew he’d want to watch it when it came on last night. I told him he had to watch it on the DVD and the advantage would be that we could watch it earlier. It was not even unwrapped and the DVD player had been unplugged (and it’s awkward to reach round the back of the tv) but we sorted it and enjoyed the film from 5-7pm. Then we watched the quizzes on BBC2 and I was set for an early night when DH mentioned LA Confidential was on a 9. I’ve wanted to watch it for years but it’s always on late and it was on Film 4 so there were advert breaks. We watched it anyway! It didn’t finish until 11.45 and I still had to clear up a few things before going to bed. Maybe I will manage an early night tonight 😴

DH has problems with blocked ears and sinuses and recently, bouts of vertigo. He was feeling quite poorly yesterday but seems to have perked up today. He took one of the Stugeron that I take occasionally for travel sickness, and seems to have slept well.

My friend and neighbour, who had a terminal cancer diagnosis 2 years ago has nearly reached the end. She went into the local hospice on New Year’s Eve, in severe pain. She has no close family but a number of very good friends who have been down to see her. Her sister has come and is staying in her house while she visits. They are not close, both being strong personalities, but a sister is a sister…

DD1 and SiL are coming for lunch tomorrow so I’m off to find a decent sized roast as we rarely have them now. Mustn’t forget the Yorkshires!

Thinking of all with an extra load to bear. Take care on the icy pavements everyone 🙂

Good morning everyone from sunny and very cold Lancashire.

MrB and I have enjoyed a walk around the Dock. Still no snow, frost or ice here, we see very little thanks to the Gulf Stream.

Sending love and positive energy to our poorly grans and those with troubles.

Wishing you all a good day, whatever you’re doing.

Morning from a very cold NE. Debating whether to brave it to view new flooring January project. Hubby thinks it will lessen by dinner time. Plenty of books and wool to keep me busy though. I start my real retirement on Monday but need to pop in some thank you cards at work. Hope I’ll be fine. I’ve really enjoyed being a lady of leisure so far. Love to all.

Good morning from a cold Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast.
I enjoyed yesterday, my first gadding about day after Xmas and the New Year. Took jumble to the charity shop and then into town to a nice tuna melt panini and coffee. I’m not one for the sales really, but padded about and bought black leather boots, mine gaping at the toe like a tramp’s and a pretty blouse.

Today I’m meeting an old pianist friend for lunch halfway between his and mine. He’s excellent company and we can talk the hind leg off a donkey. It means finding somewhere I don’t know, but I’ll put my satnag on.

The pressure for my ch had dropped this morning, it happens from time to time, so I’ve out in the boiler room adjusting it. The house is chilly. I never had this problem before installing a combi boiler.
Thoughts to Aldom and FGT🌺

Decorations down and packed away, awaiting a tall visitor to put the boxes back on the rather high shelf in the garage. As I sorted through the tree goodies I remembered where and when various things had been bought, starting with some tiny glass ornaments purchased for our first tree in 1962. There is a whole marriage in that box but only I know the stories and I doubt if anyone else will want to know them. Silver cleaning today’s job as it is too cold to venture far and it is long overdue. Need to plan some meals too in case the weather gets worse, but otherwise a quiet day ahead.

Good morning all. Dry and a day of sunshine in Glasgow today but still very cold.

A sigh of relief from friends and I who met up for lunch yesterday, all of us far too old and creaky to go jigging and revelling, we are ready to return to ‘normal’. 🤣
I will finish taking decorations down and packing them away, at my own pace which means my weekend may be fully occupied getting the job done with necessary housework included.

I love seeing pics of your patio Marzipan. It’s like a secret garden in which I imagine a fairy making good use of the star to sit on.
Pleased to hear of some progress for you Jax hoping you have a more comfortable sleep minus the brace.

Best wishes to all for a smooth day.

Good morning all from the Black country, another light covering of snow overnight. Yesterday underfoot was very slippery many problems with the buses, one stuck on a hill one crashed into a stop fortunately nobody hurt and many more diverted.
We did manage to get to designer outlet, I bought some more boots but DS got the bargain of the day a pair of Levi's for £5.
The boys were a little disappointed the play area was closed for safety reasons to much snow and ice but they soon came round with a trip to Haribo and Lindt shops.
We should be seeing friends this evening but weather dependent due to them having to drive here.
Best wishes to anyone celebrating and virtual hugs where needed.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find a little bit of ☀️

Good morning from a cold and frosty N. Bucks , no snow luckily.
A quick local food shop this morning and then we shall start taking the decorations down. We will be having a sort out of the ones we didn’t use this year.
Some art and craft this afternoon and Traitors to enjoy this evening.
I discovered Cornish Pasties in the freezer yesterday from our favourite maker in Cornwall. We shall eat them tonight and dream of all the beautiful places we like to visit there.
Wishing all a good day, keep warm and safe.

BlueSapphire Sat 03-Jan-26 08:49:25

Good morning everyone from a bright and very frosty Northampton, everything is very white with the frost. Shall not venture out today, not even to the rugby which promises to be a very good match, as I do not fancy sitting for two hours plus in below freezing temperatures. Shall watch it on tv instead.

Busy day yesterday; made a huge chicken curry in the slow cooker and just let it cook away all day. After an early lunch headed out to the Post office with my two large parcels; once rid of those got the bus down to the fan shop at the rugby stadium to get a Saints bobble hat for my friend; I also treated myself to a new one.
Then walked to Matalan and perused their offerings, but nothing took my fancy. Then to Sainsbury's where I got the couple of things I needed and then got a bus home.
A quiet evening watching Traitors and some catch-up TV.

Nothing much planned for today; must put the left over portions of chicken curry in the garage freezer. Other than that will stay in the warm, watch tv and read the Saturday papers.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

Grandmabatty Sat 03-Jan-26 08:45:56

Jaxjacky I'm glad you will get rid of the knee brace. Go easy though!

Gingster Sat 03-Jan-26 08:45:08

Good morning all 🥶.

I lit the woodburner yesterday which kept the house cosy without having too much c h on. Probably do the same today .

We met our Friday pals for drinks at lunchtime and caught up with all their Christmas news. The sun shone all day but it was icy.

The reservoir close to where we met is still closed after the tragic incident where a light plane came down into the water. Suicide ! So sad. We walk there a lot (or did before DH’s stroke) and I expect many people saw the plane come down. I’m glad we weren’t there.

Dd is still waiting to hear if we have seats at the Panto. She’s continually phoning but can’t get through and has e mailed too. Looks like we’ve missed out. !

I’ll walk the dog, pick up the paper, bread and milk and that’s my lot for today. Finish my book and start a new one for gransnet reading challenge.
I wonder how many I’ll get through. My reading is in fits and starts.

Take care all and keep warm.❄️

Grandmabatty Sat 03-Jan-26 08:44:55

marydoll because it was soft tissue damage (and I'm diabetic) it can take ages. No help from the gp either. Apparently soft tissue damage, like ligament or tendon damage, can take ages to heal and compounded by diabetes, that means months. It is getting better, very slowly but NYD was not a good day. Too much housework etc on Hogmanay!

Jaxjacky Sat 03-Jan-26 08:37:58

Morning from a cold and frosty S Hants, MrJ has made tea. After an e consult yesterday I have a physio appointment at our surgery next Friday, I’ll appreciated some guidance, knee brace comes off at bed time tonight.
Pleased your leg is improving Grandmabatty

Good morning from a frosty Suffolk but no snow and sunshine predicted. Even with sunglasses on and the car visor down,I find late afternoon driving around the lanes troublesome.

I was delighted to find my friend in good spirits yesterday and much more stable on her feet. She is now walking using a frame around the Home and the arm affected by her stroke is nearly as mobile as her other one. It’s all down to her determination and exercise regime I think.

DS coming over at lunchtime to look at cars in the garage we have used and trust for over 40 years so I can stay at home whilst they view, enthuse or whatever. Because of all the speed restrictions on the A12 the journey from DS’s house to ours is usually just under an hour. These days it’s at least 20 mins more . The heavy lorry traffic to Sizewell C increases by the week and will continue for years. I now use the train rather than driving when I go to Woodbridge or Ipswich to meet friends.

Hope all have a good day.

Good morning all from weather a chilly Glasgow, where it is 0°C, but it feels much colder, my aching joints woke me.
I did notice a covering of snow, during my nocturnal wanderings, but it has now disappeared, thank goodness.
Snow is acceptable, if you are not going out, but otherwise, I hate it! Bad memories of having to walk miles in it to get to work.

GMB, is your leg not healing, after your accident? 😞

GM, I don't iron my own tea towels, but do iron the church ones. I don't want anyone talking about me! 😂
In fact, I do have some to do, left after the Hogmanay party. The lady, who was supposed to wash them, made such a fuss, I took them instead.

Great news about the tickets, Susan .🎉

Yesterday was clearing up after the Hognanay function, which raised an amazing £3,300 for the Restoration Fund.
I made it clear. I would not be doing anything, just being there if needed. I have keys to everything..
Two of my ex colleagues were there helping. They are not parishioners, but had been at the function and came to help.
What a welcome I got from them.💕
There was also so a former parent, who came to talk to me. I had a soft spot for her daughter and also her DH, the Council painter, who often worked in my school.
I was for ever telling him off, for painting over staples and drawing pins . ^No ma joab tae take them aff, , Mrs MD.' 😄
His wife said, B. (her husband) just loved you. 😍

I didn't do much for the rest of the day, dinner was leftovers for DH, I don't have much of an appetite at the moment, so just grazed.
I spent ages, searching for a missing gilet, I'm beginning to think I have imagined ever owning it in the first place.

As usual today, I will work on the electronic parish bulletin and add the Hogmanay photos to the website. Firstly, I need to ensure, I have everyone's permission.
Vigil Mass tonight, then a quiet night.
Safe journey to all, who are travelling and as always best wishes to my fellow mountaineers. 💗

P,S. Grandmattie, you are NOT stupid, you are a very talented lady. 💗

Grandmabatty Sat 03-Jan-26 08:34:11

aldom how sad. My condolences 💐

Aldom Sat 03-Jan-26 08:29:13

Good morning Mick and everyone.
We've had a light snow fall overnight here in Shropshire.
Yesterday I had coffee with the Clergy Widows group. We couldn't use the usual coffee shop in the museum as the internet was down.
I had planned to go to town this morning but will probably put it off till next week now there's snow.
I'll make up the guest bedroom bed with the new duvet cover and pillow cases instead. Also have a chicken and wine casserole to make.
We had two deaths in the family on New year's Eve.
My thoughts are always with those who are finding life difficult. flowers

Forgot to say thankyou for showing the mountain garden Marzipan - looking as enticing as ever!

Good morning everyone from a very cold and snowy Inverness
A very Happy Birthday to your Imp GG sounds like a busy day! 🎈🎁 🎂
I think we might just stay in today given the weather, we can get something out of the freezer for dinner later and there’s lots of jobs at home to keep us busy. We’re going away tomorrow anyway so I need to do a bit of packing, we booked a very last minute break to Madeira to escape this wintry weather
Enjoy the musical Susan and your day out with your girls. Grandmabatty enjoy the family breakfast and I’m so envious of your aunt and uncle!
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all especially in the icy conditions

GrannyGravy13 Sat 03-Jan-26 08:18:40

Good morning from S E Essex where it’s -1° with a heavy frost.

It’s The Imp’s sixth birthday today, where on earth have those years gone 🤷‍♀️. It only seems like yesterday, when I was holding him as a new born.

He has a busy day, birthday party at lunchtime, and nd out for a family meal this evening, I have a feeling that I will be exhausted later (I might actually appreciate the steroods uplift 😹)

Keep warm, dear morning friends 🙋‍♀️

Gagagran Sat 03-Jan-26 08:16:50

Good Morning everyone from a cold -3c on the south coast. I shall not be putting my nose outside today - cold air does not agree with me! I prefer to hunker down and keep warm and cosy indoors.

The choir I am in restarts next Wednesday (7th) and we shall be looking at the programme for the June concert. It is the highlight of my week to see old friends - and new- and get to grips with the new music. It better warm up a bit though! We meet in the Methodist Church and it can be somewhat chilly!

Then, the January WI meeting is on 8th and again it will be good to see friends there and catch up on news. It is always a pleasure to hear of their various "doings" and humorous incidents. Always a chuckle or too with WI ladies!

DH noticed when he put the bin out that all the outside festive lights around us seem to have been taken down and I think there is "festive fatigue" about this year. It all seemed to start so early in December and by now, it all feels too much.

Thoughts of all who are coping with worries, struggles or ill health for themselves or loved ones.

GrannyIvy Sat 03-Jan-26 08:05:24

Good morning from a windy minus 1 Cambridgeshire. We had a sprinkling of snow last night we usually miss out in this area.

Yesterday DH and I walked at a local NT property and there were snowdrops out, poor show of hellebores tho surprisingly. I have a lovely small Christmas rose and lots of hellebores budding and beginning to flower in my garden.

Today DH is coughing less and will return to his bowling. I need to visit M & S for supplies. I had a lovely Christmas gammon from them and hoping they may still have some in store! I am chomping through all the goodies from Christmas and to my dismay have gained 4 lbs over the last week or so 🙈

Wishing everyone the best day possible, keep warm and take care 🌺
