Good morning from Lancashire. No snow yet but it is forecast. Was woken by the brilliant moon reflecting off my mirror and shining into my face. Apparently taxi firms are very busy when the weather is cold and icy, as so many people don't want to walk/drive themselves.

grandMattie Sat 03-Jan-26 05:40:22

Good morning from Bristol. I haven’t looked out but we have had neither snow nor frost. Perhaps today, which is forecast to be much colder than yesterday.
I had a quiet day, spending most of it at the computer, sorting things out - no, not like MD fixing things, I’m too stupid and impatient for that!
I’m serving coffee in church again this morning and must iron the clean tea towels. I forgot to do them yesterday.
Hope that this weekend is kind to you all.

Good morning, it’s a frosty, still start here in south Glos, I would have no idea of the day without looking on my iPad! One day melds into the next here.
I enjoyed my visit to the hairdressers yesterday, came out looking much less tatty! My hair grows very quickly and unless I get regular trims it looks unruly. I’m certainly not someone who is fussy about how I present but I do like to look as if I’ve made some effort.
I bathed tiddler when I got home, she wasn’t dirty but she was scratching a bit and, having known skin allergies, I thought it wise. She’s a funny little sausage, gives you the most expressive side eye - it makes me laugh - but is small enough to pick up and dump in the bath.
Then more crocheting and a couple of hours of painting so a very pleasant day.
Have a lovely weekend everyone 🌹

Morning Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset is forecast a very cold, dry day

After a frustrating non shop yesterday we’ll try again elsewhere this morning before visiting a son this afternoon. He’s offered us pasta for tea, I never refuse anything cooked by someone else. Hopefully the two motorways will be quiet by the time we return.

Goodness grandmattie iron and tea towel never go together here. I iron most things, quite enjoy it, never a tea towel though. smile.

Best wishes to all. Stay warm and have the best day you can everyone.

grandMattie Sat 03-Jan-26 06:25:15

I know , corner, but there is only a small drawer, and unironed tea towels would never fit.

Good morning from frosty South Lanarkshire.

I was totally wiped out last night and have just woken up. DS and family ended up staying here until late afternoon yesterday which was lovely but it has been a busy few days.

Today will be spent packing up all the Christmas decorations, not yet twelfth night I know but I feel it’s time.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Good morning from a mild, dark, twinkling south Cornwall.

There's always one, isn't there? That Christmas decoration unnoticed until you've packed and sealed the Christmas box and manoeuvred it into its particularly awkward place. This time it's a silver star on my patio. Hey ho, I'll leave it there for the robin to perch on.

Thank you for your kind welcomes-back yesterday. I don't mind being called Marmalade 🤩, and re my mountainous garden it remains a wilderness. I have ventured up the steep steps a few times, especially when my grandson raced up there to harvest brambles for his stick insect. Mostly I've ventured back immediately.

Yesterday I sought out and found a delightful jewellery workshop in the St Ives area and will book in for a session or two soon. I've wanted to try silversmithing for ages but couldn't find quite the right set-up.

Today I'll be sewing badges on my grandson's new Cubs uniform and then experimenting with my new air fryer (a gift from a friend because he bought a bigger one). I really don't enjoy cooking but I have discovered that I really do like air frying! But then it's hardly cooking, is it, more like putting things in and out of drawers, which I do enjoy when I'm sorting my fabrics. 😁 I've made Hasselback potatoes which for me is an achievement extraordinaire.

Good morning from a very icy and cold Black Country, where snow still lingers.

Went over to Mums on the bus yesterday, as we are on a hill here and the road looked very dicey. Gave her a long cardigan for her birthday, which she promptly wore. Then asked, how much do I owe you smile DS and DD also popped over.

Mum is actually 96 today, but off to DS's party over in Lichfield later today. Premier Inn booked. DB, SIL, Neice and her boyfriend are taking Mum for lunch today, before coming over later to the party. Will go over on the train as only have to pay from 2 stops away.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

GillyMo Sat 03-Jan-26 06:40:17

Good morning all. It is forecast to be quite cold in Kent today; minus 9 degrees with the wind chill factor. I won't be going out if it's slippery underfoot. I slip on even the slightest amount of frost. I'm baffled when I see others just walking normally and not slipping.
Took the car through a car wash yesterday then cleaned the house, walked the dog and had sausage casserole for dinner. There are enough roasted vegetables for today's dinner as well so it'll be a no cooking day today.
Today I will take a look at doing the illustrated alphabet rosesandlilac mentioned the other day.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a cold dark but still morning in North Yorkshire. Awake very early again, so have already got washer going and begun my day. The grand plan for today is to end up ahead of the game a bit. Over the holidays things were done as and when, and no semblence of order, often looking round in the evening to try and see what I had got done for the day.

So today I aim to have a catch up and sort day. Only going out for the Yorkshire Post and possibly the odd thing from the market, but I am planning on doing whatever job I get round to properly, instead of half doing something and having to leave it for something else. Today as far as I know , I have no specific plans or people to meet so hopefully will get ahead of the game a bit, especially as so far, I am in less pain than usual for a morning. An added bonus.

Yesterday was rather wearying but I did manage to tick off various things, especially getting the parking permits sorted so that little gestapo has no reason to try and book me for not having the appropriate dated permit in the car. Unfortunately as the permit runs from january to december, you are always trying to renew it in the christmas post time, so that while you have paid for it and they have registered it, the actual permit can arrive at any time it decides to. So the staff at the council tell you to put a note in your car explaining you have paid etc. However the parking meter man chooses to poke around and try to book you even though he is perfectly aware of why there is no notice in your car. Ah well right is now on my side so he will get the sharp side of my tongue if he comes round this weekend.

We did not get any snow down here yesterday but my goodness it was a very cold wind and not a day to linger outside or go on the yellow peril, and it made life more difficult. I was already in a lot of pain, struggling to even get in and out of the car, and of course the slower I was the colder it was and the more my knees and back played me up. Still got majority of jobs done and shopping done but much of that was just dumped in the kitchen as bending down to cupboards etc was not on the cards. So the plan today is not only to put stuff away, but to do it properly and put new stuff at the back etc and while I am doing this check up on my stores and make sure I have a spare of whatever, but try not to have enough stored for a year!! Now I live in a town and am not likely to be cut off by the weather , my usual attitude of having enough in store to be ableto cater for a week for 3 of us is not needed, but as a mind set it difficult to get out of when that was they way we lived for years.

So all being well I shall make the kitchen first priority for sorting, and shall have the Yorkshire Post to look at when I need to sit down for a while. There may be something on this weekend that I dont know about yet, but had thought of going to Harlow Carr for a look round, but if the forecast is right that willbe put off for the moment, too cold even for looking round a garden. I have to update my new calendar, make sure that boring appointments such as the hospital etc are all put on so that at least to begin with I shall start the new year with clear idea of appointments etc. So far have bought nothing in the sales, not seen anything that I need, apart from of course my two new worcester china mugs which were half price at £6 from our local department store. I definitely get my moneys worth as they are what I take with me everywhere so that I can drink coffee from china and get a stamp from the coffee shop towards a free coffee too, so they soon pay for themselves. So a very frugal sales spend, and to be honest, I so rarely buy new clothes that looking at some of the sales stuff I was rather horrified at the prices that were meant to be sale prices!! Well think at my age I have enough clothes in the wardrobes apart from new underwear to last me out, and any spare money I have is much more needed to travel and get plants!

Hope your trip into Bicester goes well Mick and you meet up with some friends . GrandMattie hope all goes well at the coffee morning in church. RoseandLilac I find my hair grows very quickly for a time and then irritatinngly will not grow that extra bit to let you put it up and so go and get it cut again. At least my hair is pure white now and looks ok when washed so I only go to get it cut properly and no hassle faffing about with it trying to colour it or make some fancy hair do. So long as it is clean and tidy that is all I worry about. It is so fine that just after I have brushed it and it looks very nice, I go out on the yellow peril and passing a shop see my windblown mop all over the place or in bad weather it is crammed under a hat so wouldnt win a smart style award.

Hoping all GN's have a good day today and that a little order is restored to the everyday lives after the holiday.

Good morning from Malta where the sun is trying its best to make an appearance behind the clouds. High today 18°C.

I ventured out to Lidl and another similar supermarket called Eurospin yesterday. Both were very busy but I wasn’t in a hurry so quite enjoyed strolling round. Didn’t buy much, just essentials.

It was a lovely sunny day and I think today will be the same.

DD3 has invited her godfather and his wife over to my place this afternoon. They haven’t seen the boys in a while and DD3 didn’t want to ask them to hers as Milo the dog can be an absolute pain with visitors!

I will do a bit of cleaning, although once the boys arrive chaos will reign!

I iron tea towels too grandMattie! I’ve been doing so since I was 6 years old and was allowed to iron straight things like hankies, pillowslips and tea towels! My mother had me well trained!😂

Wishing you all a good day. Take care in the cold weather.🥶

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 03-Jan-26 06:52:22

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. No idea what the weather is like as I’m still in bed.

I will be mainly stripping the tree today. We will put sheets on the carpet to catch the needles. We don’t want to block the Hoover.

I had a very efficient Engage consult yesterday afternoon (we can do it all day now, not just an hour or so in the morning) with the GP. He is happy for me to continue a few days longer with the antibiotic eye drops.

Have a good day everyone.

Melanie61 Sat 03-Jan-26 07:00:20

Still dark here in Sheffield. Very cold .

I am just debating whether to take the two dachshunds I’m dog sitting for out now as I’ve a lot to do today or a shorter walk in a while.
They are very sensitive souls and don’t like the cold so wouldn’t be happy going in the dark and cold.

I am taking them for their nails clipped at 9.

At 11 I am meeting my sister at Boundry outlet for a mooch round and then at some friend for a meal this afternoon.

A busy day but very pleasant all round.

Take care everyone flowers

Grandmabatty Sat 03-Jan-26 07:22:10

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -1° and no new snow, just frost and ice. GrandMattie mum ironed everything! Socks and tights(ironed under a tea towel) were the nadir of ironing. Marzipan22 I love your star. I think you should keep it there all year.
Yesterday my leg gradually felt better after resting it on New Year's Day. I didn't tax it over much yesterday either. It was a pleasant day doing little but keeping the house tidy. I watched tv and read.
Today we are going out for a family breakfast to say farewell to my aunt and uncle who are off to Spain for a couple of months. I'll pick up ds from the station on our way to the local garden centre. There's a few things of his he can take home with him. The rest of the day will be quiet again.
I had half a steak pie last night with mashed neeps so the other half will be eaten tonight. Have a good day all.

harrigran Sat 03-Jan-26 07:35:46

Good morning from the NE where the sky is very clear and the moon is shining through the bedroom window. It is -1° at present and forecast to snow shortly.
I hope road conditions are not poor as GD1 is driving back to university today.
Yesterday was a lazy day, no visitors so I could watch TV and eat when I wanted to.
Today I will take the decorations off the tree.
Stay safe and warm.

Greyduster Sat 03-Jan-26 07:39:29

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. -1 outside and we have a high of 2 today. Hurrah!

I slept quite well last night and woke around half five when it sounded like someone had rapped hard three times on the door. I couldn’t be bothered to get out of bed and investigate. Just another one of those strange noises that come from nowhere and shock me awake - usually it’s a loud ping like a message alert on my phone.

Yesterday I managed to pack away all the Christmas paraphernalia except the lights on the tree. I’ll do that sometime today and that will be that for another year. Culled a lot of baubles that I never choose to put on the tree (I’m a bit more selective than DH who put everything on it - nothing was left out!). Not sure what is on the cards for today - I shall take it as it comes.

Have the best day you can folks.

EkwaNimitee Sat 03-Jan-26 07:45:30

Good morning Mick and everyone from dry Carlisle where it is -2°C at the moment. There is a brilliant full moon which is about to set below the rooftops.
Yesterday was a gentle pottering day interspersed with feeding the washing machine. Today, I'm feeling cabin fever so will go out for a trip through the countryside and pick up a few necessary items on the way. I may well visit the garden centre as I pass, the blackbirds are rapidly scoffing their way through the mealworms and have finished the apples so more of both are needed. Hopefully, the roads are OK, any doubts, I stay home!
It may be chaos in parts of the county today as the M6 is closed for the weekend. I shall keep well clear of Penrith and the A6. It's going to be a real pain for the lorry drivers too.

The rest of the day will be quiet, I shall read the papers and leaf through all the holiday brochures that have descended upon me but shan't be booking any in the near future.

Wishing you all a good day!

karmalady Sat 03-Jan-26 07:47:52

Good morning from s somerset, yellow warning for ice today

Up late after a very good sleep, I put another blanket on my bed yesterday, heavy Welsh wool so now I have a wool duvet and two Welsh wool blankets and was pinned down all night. Slept like a top with no cool area on my back

My few organic bits have arrived and this evening I will set to and prep the lactobacillus R that I make every week, 36 hours at 38 degrees and that makes 7 pots I think I will also make a soup with lentils and veg. An easy meal with the last of the sd bread and a bit of cheese

Bit by bit I am returning to normal food and activity. I am looking forward to a very nice day, sunny out while I do some gentle spinning. I brought down the ashford wee peggy wheel that I had built myself. It is a lovely wheel and this one has one treadle. I have oiled it and done my tests with new fluff, this time will be spinning on the fold. I have a kg and it will take me a year. I stick a sample length of single ply at the front of the wheel, so I know what I am aiming for

Have a good day

Good morning from a chilly W Kent where I need to get up and get on. I think I shall treat us to a Cook curry tonight as I have a lot of cooking to do for family coming tomorrow to open their Christmas presents! DB arrives this morning.
I’m a tea towel ironer as well and my mum also ironed the socks.
Best wishes and keep warm

Redcar Sat 03-Jan-26 07:56:21

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. The sky is clear and the full moon is very bright. It’s bitterly cold out with a sharp frost, not sure I’ll be going for my usual walk this morning. Yesterday I had a walk in the afternoon when it was sunny but still only 4 degrees.
I’ll take the Christmas cards down today, but will leave the tree until tomorrow, when hopefully one of my DDs will visit and dismantle it for me.
I’ll strip the bed this morning and have the usual fight to change the duvet cover. That may be my exercise for the day!

I hope that the snow isn’t causing too many problems for our Scottish gransnetters. It’s very pretty, but so disruptive, especially in quantity!

Thank you for the photo of your garden marzipan, it looks so pretty. The silver workshop sounds interesting, I hope you enjoy it.

corner hopefully your shop today will be more successful than yesterday. Fingers crossed your journey to and from your son’s will be trouble free.

grandmattie I hope the coffee morning is well attended today.

Thinking of those who are struggling in any way and hope the day brings some relief for you.

Have as good a day as is possible everyone, stay warm!

Susan56 Sat 03-Jan-26 08:00:24

Good morning from Shropshire.

Yesterday we had every kind of weather snow, rain and sun.The sun warmed the house and conservatory beautifully so no need for the heating as we took the Christmas decorations down and deep cleaned the house.

I iron tea towels too!

Today I am going to Liverpool with DD1 and DGD to see Matilda the musical. We will have lunch out and time to do a bit of shopping.DH and H will have a day at home.

Glad your leg is starting to feel better Grandmabatty.

Thinking of all struggling and wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻

GrannyIvy Sat 03-Jan-26 08:05:24

Good morning from a windy minus 1 Cambridgeshire. We had a sprinkling of snow last night we usually miss out in this area.

Yesterday DH and I walked at a local NT property and there were snowdrops out, poor show of hellebores tho surprisingly. I have a lovely small Christmas rose and lots of hellebores budding and beginning to flower in my garden.

Today DH is coughing less and will return to his bowling. I need to visit M & S for supplies. I had a lovely Christmas gammon from them and hoping they may still have some in store! I am chomping through all the goodies from Christmas and to my dismay have gained 4 lbs over the last week or so 🙈

Wishing everyone the best day possible, keep warm and take care 🌺

Gagagran Sat 03-Jan-26 08:16:50

Good Morning everyone from a cold -3c on the south coast. I shall not be putting my nose outside today - cold air does not agree with me! I prefer to hunker down and keep warm and cosy indoors.

The choir I am in restarts next Wednesday (7th) and we shall be looking at the programme for the June concert. It is the highlight of my week to see old friends - and new- and get to grips with the new music. It better warm up a bit though! We meet in the Methodist Church and it can be somewhat chilly!

Then, the January WI meeting is on 8th and again it will be good to see friends there and catch up on news. It is always a pleasure to hear of their various "doings" and humorous incidents. Always a chuckle or too with WI ladies!

DH noticed when he put the bin out that all the outside festive lights around us seem to have been taken down and I think there is "festive fatigue" about this year. It all seemed to start so early in December and by now, it all feels too much.

Thoughts of all who are coping with worries, struggles or ill health for themselves or loved ones.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 03-Jan-26 08:18:40

Good morning from S E Essex where it’s -1° with a heavy frost.

It’s The Imp’s sixth birthday today, where on earth have those years gone 🤷‍♀️. It only seems like yesterday, when I was holding him as a new born.

He has a busy day, birthday party at lunchtime, and nd out for a family meal this evening, I have a feeling that I will be exhausted later (I might actually appreciate the steroods uplift 😹)

Keep warm, dear morning friends 🙋‍♀️
