Today I saw 4 black swans on the sea near our house. They are not rare or anything but I had never, ever seen them there before and I felt so happy and privileged. Any unusual sightings of wildlife, birds or animals, where you live?

I used to often see a heron sitting on a neighbour's roof - until all the fish in his pond had gone!

Maybe she needs to check under her gooseberry bush, just in case, Rosiesmaw! grin

Hedge sparrows, the odd tree sparrow, fieldfares, mistle thrushes, the odd osprey flying over, buzzards en kestrels, a sparrowhawk dived over my bird table a while back and flew off with a bluetit while I was watching from my window.
Plus of course the usual crowd.
I love watching them

Magpies, Sparrowhawks etc raise their young by killing other birds, if you want a reason for lack of hedgerow and garden birds look them.

Im sorry you enjoy seeing a sparrorhawk killing a blue tit.

Watching any nature documentaries where animals lower down the food chain are killed by predators to be eaten or fed to young would be off limits then... including most of David Attenborough's nature programmes.
