Good Morning Sunday 4th January 2026

Good morning from a frozen Suffolk where we had quite a thick covering of snow yesterday in spite of the BBC weather forecast being sun all day. The sun came later in the afternoon but no thaw.

I had messages and photos from friends on the coast 5 miles away and they had similar weather. DH cancelled DS’s visit to look at cars and was glad as he had because the driver delivering our order said the side roads and lanes were very icy. We haven’t had weather like this for several years. DH will venture out later with the little dog and any plans we had for other outings today are on hold.

A day of peace and quiet beckons with a beef casserole for dinner this evening. I hope all have the best day possible.

We are taking Christmas down today, too. And DS2 is calling in at teatime.

A late good morning by our standards from a very cold, frosty but bright Torbay. Yesterday it was very icy underfoot which is unfamiliar here.

DH is still unwell with a cold and chesty cough so is routinely sleeping on the recliner. Yesterday, we were fast running out of paracetamol which he was taking for his cold symptoms and I need routinely for arthritis. Neither of us can have ibuprofen due to being on BP meds with which it’s not recommended. Despite my orthopaedic surgeon recommending that they should be prescribed for me, my surgery refuses to do so, telling me that they expect patients to buy them. It’s not the cost but the inconvenience of having to maintain supply levels! Anyway, my local pharmacy staff were very understanding so we have enough for now. I also managed to procure two more packets from the paper shop.

Today is our church's Epiphany lunch at a local hotel. Obviously, DH is too poorly to go so I’ve invited a friend from our theatre group to have his prebooked place. I hope the pavements are less treacherous.

Ashcombe In the olden days you could buy a tub of 500 paracetamol. My mother always had one in the cupboard. Such a nuisance ...and expense to only be able to buy small quantities. I know the reason why, but if you need them regularly it is a nuisance.

Good morning from a chilly Glasgow, where it is -2°C.

I eventually fell asleep at 5am, so DH left me sleeping. He has brought me a cuppa, two painkillers and two hot water bottles.
Yesterday,I didn't realise one of the bottles was leaking. The result, a wet mattress, pillow, sheet and pyjamas.😱

I don't plan to do much today. I may bake, as I have out of date milk.
Karma, you have inspired me to make a multi grain loaf overnight for breakfast tomorrow. I haven't been to the shops since Tuesday.

Researching how to do something complicated on the parish website is a possibility. I have no idea how to do this, but will have a go.
A walk in the sunshine, would be lovely, but being out in the cold air, is not good for my lungs.
So many restrictions in my life at present.

Ashcombe, I have paracetamol on repeat, after my consultant wrote to my GP, advising that I should take up to eight a day, to supplement my opioid patch.
I did have initially to argue my corner with the surgery pharmacist, but had it in writing from my consultant.
Is it worth asking to see another GP?

Icy here in Sheffield, my little pond is frozen over. The pigeons won’t be happy. They like a little drink from my pond then they turn round and poo in . They're not grateful at all.

I’ve also had a massive win on the premium bonds. I’m just working out how I’m going to spend my £25.
I have nothing on today.
I’m taking my tree down and then tidying up my pantry .
A quiet one as DH is at the match.

Unfortunately, I’ve never had anything in writing from my surgeon. Face to face appointments are virtually impossible to achieve at my practice. Everything is done by form filling (Patchs) online or by telephone, mainly with paramedics, practice pharmacists or associates. It’s rare to speak to a GP and impossible to see one.

Liberty I was surprised to see your snowy garden. I spoke to my neighbour at our seaside cottage yesterday and they said they’d had a sprinkling, which is very unusual.

Hoorah! We’re off to the Panto this afternoon. ‘Oh yes we are’! Dd got an email from the venue saying they have room for us.

Chicken and mushroom hotpot for us today.

Good morning all. -3, heavy frost and a pink sunrise in Glasgow this morning🥶

The garden was bathed in moonlight from a beautiful full moon last night. A lovely slow start this morning listening to Wagner - Prelude and Liebstod for 20mins having my morning coffee. It’s one of my top favourites, so moving. Far too cold to go out walking, walks around the house, up and down stairs, at least I’m getting some form of exercise. I must get out of the house though so a drive to our small local M&S food hall to collect a delivery then a trip to Sainsbury’s to stock up on Mr. Baker’s rye bread.

Good morning everyone from a very frosty and bright Northampton, all the rooftops and cars are white. Shall not be going anywhere today.

Also had a.day in yesterday; got 4 portions of curry into the garage freezer and planned out meals for the rest of the week.
Had plenty of time to read the Saturday newspapers in depth and attempt the crossword and puzzle pages.
I also started my book for January's book club - a whodunit and sinister murder - and found it difficult to put down, am nearly half-way thtough.

Delayed having my dinner until after I had watched my rugby team on tv trounce their opponents 66-21. Another excellent day at the office for the boys; I should have been there but decided it was too cold to sit in below freezing temperatures for over two hours.

Planning on taking the tree down today, and shall put everything else away tomorrow. I hate the house looking so bare but suppose I shall soon get used to it.

Good morning from cold Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast.
No sign of snow here.
Yesterday was nice, I drove halfway to meet up for lunch with old pianist friend and his partner. Only took me twenty minutes and a plan for similar meet ups in the future. I gave them a late Christmas present of a tin of biscuits and they gave me books I know I will like. They hadn’t received my hand painted Christmas card, which saddened me and has happened before with them. Obviously their postman/post office doesn’t like me…

Long chat in the evening with another musical friend whilst sitting in the kitchen and I saw a little mouse scurry by. My poison and peppermint spray doesn’t seem to be working and my well fed cat isn’t bothered. I might set a trap. It’s not the end of the world, but I’m not keen on sharing my kitchen with mice. I’m making sure all food is put away, but it’s difficult with cat food available.

Gardener due today for a tidy up and a quiet day for me.

Good morning from Kent where it is currently zero degrees, sunny, and blue sky. It is frosty on the garden but luckily the pavements were clear this morning for a short walk. Refreshing to breathe in the cool air as I opened the door.
Yesterday I walked about 3 miles. It was good to get moving but I must say I'm do like a bit of hibernating in the winter. Nothing better than curling up with a good book or some knitting, both of which I did yesterday. No doubt will do the same today.
Part of what I like about this forum is learning new things. Karmalady, I had not heard about autolyse before.

Morning from heavily frosted South Lanarkshire. I’m feeing utterly exhausted this morning so online mass for me. Heartbeat is extremely slow so I’ll stay in the warm house until I feel more energetic.
This has been a more frequent occurrence recently so possibly a conversation with a GP (if I can get one).

Great party last night for DS’s 50th. I even had a boogie. He has so many mates, the place was packed. He is obviously regarded well, from all their comments.

Didn’t get to bed till 1.30. So once up a wander round the City I lived in for 20 years.

MrB and I have enjoyed our usual walk around the Dock. The car is iced up and there are icy patches in the Dock, but thankfully the paths and pavements are clear. The sky is clouding over and snow showers are forecast for later, so who knows!

Good morning from Stockport where it is bitterly cold and snowing.
I thought it was too cold to snow so I think it is frozen rain.
It was -6 in the early hours.
A nice little win of £250 for me on the PBs I shall put it towards curtains for my new snug.

ash. I also have paracetamol on prescription. I need, and take, 8 a day along with slow release ibuprofen, my body doesn’t tolerate anything stronger. A GP once said she’d rather prescribe than know I was hunting for them. She also said folk who are prescribed paracetamol don’t overdose. Not sure if she had evidence but it’s what she believed. At our large group practice one of the pharmacists does the med reviews by phone and I find they are very understanding I’m so sorry your surgery staff are less so.

Thank you, cornergran. After my lovely local pharmacy helped me out by allowing me to buy more, we shall be OK for a while but in the long term, I need to sort out a repeat prescription.
