and his death on 10 January.

A question for all of you DB followers, which west country City did he live in when he was trying to become a musician.

There are two up and coming events, there are most likely others but please post if you know of any more.
Foyles in London Saturday 10 January and the following weekend(17 January) the British library in Soho.

There is a tribute to him at Aylesbury, UK.

Before my husband had his stroke I used to walk miles and always listened to Bowie on the way.

Infoman, the British Library is next to St Pancras on the Euston Road, not Soho
there are four Foyles in London, the flagship store being on Charing Cross Road of course.

Bowie had a close connection with St Ives, attending the opening of the Tate there, his artistic fascinations well documented.

Never a big fan but could appreciate his music and acting was it Laberinth I saw and thought he was really great in

I really dislike the happy heavenly birthday phrase its very twee and no one’s any idea where their loved one is apart from in their heart

My 17 year old grandaughter is a huge fan of david bowie . She loves the music from the 70s (my era)
So we sit and chat about music from that era and i tell her about David Bowie.
Ive told her she has a great taste in music

It is strange to me to think that he was alive at the same time as Bing Crosby.

The documentary is brilliant Kate and even though it's been 10 years, I still cried.

I was a fan! a man of many guises and talents. I was lucky enough to see him when he was at the height of fame as Ziggy Stardust. When his death was announced out of the blue 10 years ago, what a shock, he'd kept his cancer under wraps.

He and Iman made a beautiful couple and seemed to be very happy, she wished him a "Happy Heavenly Birthday" yesterday.

Fans will love the new documentary Bowie The Final Act.

Was never a fan and didn't 'get ' him at all. but my friend loved him. No doubt he was an amazing musician.
I never understood his comment " I'm a collector of personalities "

Bowie's "Hunky Dory" was the first piece of music that I remember made such an impression on me that I can remember where I was and who I was with when I heard it. ( The second was Dire Straits' "Sultans of Swing" but that's for another post).
Huge Bowie fan all my life. Saw him in concert twice.
What a man ; what a talent.
RIP David.

I was never a fan of his music but I thought he was a brilliant actor. I watched him on 'Shifty' he was a remarkable and very intelligent man.

Purplepixie Thu 08-Jan-26 15:44:48

An amazing star.

He provided the soundtrack of my youth and I was lucky enough to see him on his final Ziggy tour in 1974. He evolved continually throughout his career and there has never been anyone like him. An absolute genius and true artist ❤️

He made some great memorable music and was a one off.

He was a genius and I still find it hard to believe that he's dead.
The best concerts I've ever been to were his.

We did buy the 'Black Star' album but I still haven't listened to it; maybe one day.

Same here. The video he made just before he died was heartbreaking ( even though I believe that he didn’t realise that he had so little time left when he made it). When I was in my late teens my work colleagues went to see him and I didn’t go with them, something I still regret.

My hubby loved him had the hair style and everything. Not the makeup though!

I was never a particular fan although I realised he was a genius. The way he reinvented himself was astonishing. I preferred him in the 1980s as he was so painfully thin in the 1970s. But whenever he's on now I am glued to the screen because every time I watch him I see something new and I can't take my eyes off him.

A fan of some of his music but not so much the man. Anyway, he died like we all have to so it isn't his birthday at all.

Not particularly a fan. It is also Elvis’s birthday today and I grew up listening to him and still love his music.

Grannybags Thu 08-Jan-26 10:29:46

He lived in Beckenham

Sago Thu 08-Jan-26 10:23:15

An absolute legend.
I saw “Turn and Face the Strange” at the Hull Truck Theatre.
It was outstanding and featured one of the original members of the Spiders from Mars.

Samsara1 Thu 08-Jan-26 10:12:47

I didn't' 'get ' him at all but I read that he was a very nice man and an amazing friend to other artists. He died quite young which is sad.
