What do you miss from your Christmas stash ?

I finished my Christmas chocolates yesterday. Very sad as I really do like a chocolate with my evening cup of coffee.

However I discovered that Greene King and MacMillan nurses are collecting the empty tubs - so maybe a reason to buy another one? Details are on the Greene King website.

Chinese figs! in a box, have not seen them this century,
gritty and sinful, yum.

slabs of toffee complete with minimtoffee hammer,
especially the one with brazil nuts in,
pink sugar mice with wee string tails, Nux bars and Tiffin, Instant Whip and Vesta Beef Curry, all gone…

I consumed the last piece of iced ginger shortbread yesterday. My granddaughter loves it and says it wouldn't be a Boxing day buffet without it.
I suppose I could make some more, but DH doesn't like ginger and I would have to eat it all myself.

recipe ! please, for you, an airtight tin if the shortbread
will keep, ‘cos, “a little of what you fancy does you good”

I always have a few treats in the cupboard, keeps me sane, as a full time carer for my DH I sometimes seek a bubble of calm in the kitchen with a nice biscuit and cuppa.

I welcome not having temptation around me in January.
I really need to lose a stone and it spurs me on to think I will weigh less by the time I put away winter clothes.

But….pace yourselves, January is cold and bleak and calories keep us warm🍔🍟🥧🍩🧁

Oh I totally agree. At one stage we had a huge pile of chocolates, biscuits , mince pies etc. Now there’s nothing left. May as well start the diet.

As I get older, I've come to the realisation that my DNA is not geared to accept two words of English...

...moderation and willpower.

ferry23 Do you feel glad, sad or indifferent about it being almost gone ?

My mind feels extremely sad. My bathroom scales, not so much grin

Rocketstop2 Sat 10-Jan-26 18:37:00

Ha ha Oreo, know what you mean about shrinking jeans !
I think the problem is, I meant to wean myself back off this stuff but instead it's just come to a full stop !

I am type 2 diabetic and was started on mounjaro a year ago . I have lost 4 stone , with more needed but have completely gone off biscuits and most cakes . I’ve had the odd mince pie and my DGD made me individual Birds trifles over the Christmas as they are my favourites . Obviously they are long gone as they only last a couple of days . We still have chocolate biscuits in the cupboards but I’m not in the least bit tempted to. Thank goodness for mounjaro otherwise I would be growing bigger and bigger.

After Christmas , like most people, I had stuff to finish up, and I was bragging to myslf 'Oh yes, I shall be glad when all this is gone and I go back to normal eating' Alas, I have become USED to going to the cupboard in the afternoon for a 'Bit of something' with my cuppa. It's ll gone now, but my absolute DISMAY when I realised there wasn't a piece of shortbread, a chocolate finger or a choc left.My tea tasted too wet !!

I feel just like you as all the mince pies have gone and the M&S biscuits.
My waistbands will thank me tho, as my jeans seem to have shrunk, strangely.

Magenta 8..I won't tell anyone if you share them with me....!!!

Rocketstop2 Sat 10-Jan-26 18:26:21

GrannyGravy13, I kind of feel you've given me permission to buy more treats !!!

GrannyGravy13 Sat 10-Jan-26 18:16:08

January is depressing enough without deprivation.

I always have extra treats!that I keep to ease the pain of what seems like the longest month of the year.

Magenta8 Sat 10-Jan-26 18:10:47

Today I found an unopened box of cheese straws that I am keeping to myself. Don't tell anyone.

Obviously the second week in January is the universal end of all the leftover bits and bobs. I have 2 ferrero rocher left which will be gone this evening and about half a dozen of the most boring of a box of biscuits left.
