Good morning from a cold and frosty Suffolk. Given the rain yesterday and the frost now,I’m thinking I’ll give my keep fit class a miss as the lanes will be icy and I hare driving in these conditions. The lanes are twisty and single track for a mile or so until we get to the main road and difficult to avoid another car if it is slippery.

Hopefully by late morning the predicted sun will have appeared, the ice will have disappeared and it will be fine for my audiology appt at the local hospital.

This evening DH and I have tickets booked at the local theatre which also shows films for a screening of ‘La Traviata’ from the ROH. We had thought about going there to see it but decided this was a much easier option, although not as lovely an experience.

Hope all have a satisfying day and those who are not feeling their best get some rest.

Morning all from a frozen West Oxfordshire.

I didn’t do much yesterday apart from popping round to see friends. It is a five minute walk but I drove as my toe is still not right. Just one more antibiotic so I expect I will be contacting the surgery tomorrow.

A recently bereaved friend rang for a chat last night. Her OH died before Christmas but the funeral isn’t until a week Friday. She has the support of her family which is good.

OH and I are going out for lunch today. We have some discount tickets from the restaurant which we have to use before the middle of February. We can’t open them until the bill arrives so will learn then if it’s a free meal, 50% off or 25% off. We also have a voucher for a free meal at another restaurant which our daughter gave us for Christmas.

Have a good day everyone,
FGT2s 🌹

Morning, 0 in S Hants.
Oh what a shame brook hardly a restful break, go gently, Ekwa too, your journey sounds exhausting.
I do hope your trip across La Manche is smooth and trouble free Ashcombe.
I’m hoping this darned UTI is on its way out, disturbed nights are becoming an unwelcome norm.
MrJ has an endoscopy today for reflux, not pleasant, I’ll be waiting here fingers crossed.
Good news on the TV Roses 🙂
Have a pleasant day all.

Morning from South Lanarkshire, I made the mistake of bringing my cup of tea back to bed and now I’m fighting the urge to slide down and go back to sleep. Must resist as DD4 is picking me up in a couple of hours so I can sit in the car with the new pup while she attends a physio session. She doesn’t want to leave him too long on his own yet. She’ll then run me into Giffnock for childminding duties.
I’ve made a chicken casserole in the slow cooker for their dinner but I’m not sure about it, I don’t seem to have great success with food cooked that way. Oh well, I’ll worry about it later.

I hope you’re having a smooth crossing Ashcome and enjoy your time in France.

That’s rubbish about your holiday woes Brooke, glad you’re safely tucked up at home now.

Wishing everyone a good day x

Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire. The car and the lawn are covered in a heavy frost this morning. We are promised a dry day with some sunshine later though. I may get some laundry out.

I walked to school and back yesterday - got a bit damp going but I enjoyed it. When I got there, there was some confusion about where I would be working, my usual venue being subject to some rearrangements. I was asked to use a very small windowless room where they keep the reading books but then got shifted because the headmaster said he thought it “it might make me feel vulnerable”. I’m still trying to work this one out! I ended up in the library which is always busy with pupils coming and going between classrooms, and therefore noisy. I didn’t enjoy it and neither did my readers, some of whom will simply clam up if there are other children hanging about. I hope they have put some better arrangement in place by next week.

Writers group at the library this afternoon.

Have the best day you can folks.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 3°and damp out. ashcombe you should be sailing now(just). Safe journey. Brook it sounds like you have had a rotten time. Poor you.
Yesterday I pottered about after I dropped off the boys. Dgs2 was being difficult because dd had run out of his smoothies and he would not accept a different one. So it took ages to get him going. This meant he was out of sorts at my house too and that continued after nursery where, of course, he had behaved well. He was hard work indeed. Dgs1 came out of school brandishing the 'Jannie Cup'. It's a Cup as big as he is awarded by the school janitor who supervises the break time football games. Dgs1 was very happy.
I had a bit of a disturbed night and was up at half one or so, watching a programme on bbc4 about vikings in Scotland.
Today I'll head to the school library and work for an hour. Then home to think about clearing out the hall cupboard.
I forgot to mention, a film about my art tutor was shown on BBC Scotland on Monday night. I'm on it as I was interviewed about her work. When I turned up at school yesterday, wee friends of dgs1 were really excited to see me because I was famous, apparently 😂.
The painting i spoke about in the film, I later bought and it's hanging on my living room wall.
Have a good day all.

Good morning from sunny, frosty Leicestershire.

Rollator shopping was successful yesterday but were limited by what I could lift and what would fit in the car.

So sorry to hear about your holiday Brook and I hope you feel better soon Jax.
My thoughts are with those who are suffering.

Gingster Wed 14-Jan-26 08:33:43

Good morning all and the house feels very warm,

Yesterday’s earcheck showed dh has to have a wax removal before a hearing test and then new hearing aids. This just goes on and on whilst driving us mad with not hearing anything.

Today he had a hair appointment and then we’ll go next door for breakfast.

I’m meeting my friend for lunch so I’ll only have a light brek .

Sorry your break away was spoiled by flights and sickness, Brook. What a shame.
Ekwa Nimitee give the train company a piece of your mind.
Ash I hope your inward journey is trouble free.

GG and Sar wishing you both better. 🙏.

Take care all

Susan56 Wed 14-Jan-26 08:45:38

Good morning from chilly Shropshire🥶After yesterdays milder weather we are back to a heavy frost today.

Yesterday was a quiet day at home.I had long chats with both DD’s which was nice.

Today is our usual Wednesday of taking DGD out for tea and to dance class.

Brook, I’m sorry your holiday was so disappointing and hope you are both feeling better soon.

Thinking of Georgesgran and all others struggling with family worries and illness.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🌻🦩

Grammaretto Wed 14-Jan-26 08:50:20

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's light so must be late. After a poor night I finally fell asleep at 5 and am just up.

Yarn group and community meal today which is a gentle day.

Yesterday was manic with trips to the tip, to Peebles to replace my watch strap and look round the sales, a joiner coming to assess the work he'll start tomorrow sorry gMattiewink lunch at a café, exercise class, sorting my new tenants' WiFi and driving 2 of us to Gaelic evening class. I cooked myself a late supper which might be why I couldn't sleep!

Sorry to hear your holiday wasn't too good brook I was in your part of the world last week, speaking Gaelic once or twice

I shall be looking out for you GMB will you be on iPlayer?

Have a good trip to France Ash.
My DSis and DBiL are going to Paris for her birthday this weekend.

Thinking of all with worries and illness.
Keep safe and keep cosy.

Marydoll Wed 14-Jan-26 08:51:37

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is 5°C, with even more rain forecast.

Brook, what a pity, your holiday was a bit of a disaster.

GM, thinking of your peanut butter cookies we have made or coffee mornings nut free zones, due to a number of parishioners having severe nut allergies.
In the past, we alerted parishioners, that some goods contained nuts, but due to concerns regarding cross contamination, we were forced to ban all nut products.

My appointment with the surgery pharmacist was very positive yesterday. -- Much to my surprise.--.
She was shocked at the struggles I have had to obtain some of my meds, as well as special requests, they are now on repeat, including 10 % Ibruprofen gel. Madeleine, have you already tried that?
In future, I have to phone her directly, for help.

Ash, she advised me to take the max dose of paracetamol for two weeks, to try and calm things down. I was trying to cut it down, but she informed me that the standard treatment for those with chronic pain, who use opioid patches, is eight paracetamol daily.

I too, have had dizziness and nausea over the last few days. I wonder if there is a bug going around.

I had planned to go out today, but don't feel very well, so a day at home for me.in fact, I might just stay in bed.😉

Have a pleasant day and best wishes for our poorly mountaineers.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 14-Jan-26 08:52:02

Oh Brook how disappointing for you both, wish you better soon.

Grandmabatty Wed 14-Jan-26 08:56:53

Grammaretto the film is on iplayer under Scotland. It's called : Greer Ralston, giving it all for art. It's been seen around the world at film festivals and has won some.

hollysteers Wed 14-Jan-26 09:12:00

Good morning from Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast.
Managed to get to the music club today with the wrenched neck and sang a couple of songs as well as hosting it. Early night with a hot seed bag wrapped around my neck.

Today I could go to the using lunchtime recital (piano) and the opera co rehearsal in the city tonight, but feel two outings might be too much so just the rehearsal which is more important.
Sorry about your holiday Brook and Bon voyage Ashcombe

Black ink drawing I did (if it posts)..

hollysteers Wed 14-Jan-26 09:12:36

Usual recital 🙄

hollysteers Wed 14-Jan-26 09:14:00

Drawing freehand and not out of a book!

BlueSapphire Wed 14-Jan-26 09:21:08

Good morning everyone from a very bright and frosty Northampton, -2° outside and frost on all the rooftops.

Yesterday was persistent heavy drizzle but I did manage to get out with my walking group which I hadn't managed for the last month. It was good to see everyone again. Also did some washing and vacuumed downstairs again, but still bits of tinsel and glitter remain! Made a pea and ham casserole for dinner.

Out for lunch today at the pub down the road with my oldest friend - we met teaching at the same school in 1972 - both in our late twenties and young marrieds then - now she is 83 and I am 80 - how did that happen? We have both lost our DHs. Looking forward to wine and a good natter!

Hope all feeling poorly see some improvement today. Wishing all a pleasant Wednesday.

luluaugust Wed 14-Jan-26 09:36:07

Good morning from a sunny W Kent. I have a friend coming round for coffee this morning, she is wanting for a hospital appointment regarding her foot and is very anxious about it all.
Brook Hope you feel better soon
Marydoll glad someone is helping you
Enjoy all the lunches out and best wishes

Blossoming Wed 14-Jan-26 11:08:17

Good morning everyone from sunny Lancashire.

It’s a cold one for sure. MrB and I have enjoyed a circular walk around the Dock, both bridges are a little slippy underfoot but I haven’t gone sliding.

Such a shame about your holiday Brook, I know you were looking forward to it. Hope you and your DH are better soon.

Glad your pharmacist was helpful Marydoll, hope a day of rest helps today.

Thinking as always of our poorly grans and those with troubles.
🌹
Wishing you all a good day, whatever you’re doing.

Litterpicker Wed 14-Jan-26 11:47:13

Good morning from West Sussex by the sea. It’s a beautiful morning. I’m planning a quick trip to the allotment to dig up some leeks for soup.

hollysteers what a fantastic drawing, so intricate. I would need the ‘dotted lines to draw over’ version 😀

Grandmabatty, I have watched most of the Greer Ralston film - it is so interesting and you, and the others who spoke, came across beautifully. I will finish watching when I have my lunch 😊

Hope those feeling poorly have a better day.

Wish me luck as we are getting the train to Edinburgh tomorrow! The east coast line should be ok but reading of your disrupted journey Ekwanimitee, I am a little apprehensive 🫩

Grandmabatty Wed 14-Jan-26 12:38:01

Litterpicker thank you. The director asked for volunteers to be interviewed and everyone hung back, so I offered to start things off. That got the ball rolling. Greer is absolutely lovely but very private and found some of it hard to do

Usedtobeblonde Wed 14-Jan-26 14:24:52

Grandmabatty I am unwell today so just doing nothing at all.
I have watched the Greer Ralston film, it is wonderful.
She is such an amazing woman, talented beyond belief, versatile in her work and so very intelligent.
If I had 1% of her talent and personality I would be a happy woman.
Her work/ subject choices are so varied it was amazing.
I don’t know which interviewee was you as I have never met you but I’m guessing you were not one of the nudes!!
Thank you for bringing our attention to it, it would certainly have slipped under the radar otherwise and I should have missed a fascinating programme.

brook2704 Wed 14-Jan-26 14:58:42

Same here Uttb I’ve just finished watching the film, such an interesting and talented lady
Grandmabatty you came across really well in the film, a very well done to you - the picture you bought is so beautiful too.

Grandmabatty Wed 14-Jan-26 15:18:46

Utbb I'm the lady with glasses talking about the painting of the shoe and cherries. 😊

Usedtobeblonde Wed 14-Jan-26 17:36:25

I shall go back and look.
