Petition to ban fireworks

I wouldnt go as far as banning them myself per se - but I would ban the noisy ones.

I don't have any pets - but I've heard plenty about how terrified many pet animals can be by the noise they make and I don't think it's reasonable behaviour by the firework enthusiasts to expect peoples cats, dogs, horses to be cowering in terror because they personally want "to make a show".

Add in that fireworks have become much more common and so it's not just a 5 November thing anymore and some poor animals are being frightened now for a noticeable number of days per year.

I'm someone that would "reach out" towards any fireworkers that close to me personally if they were being inconsiderate - eg by deciding to use my hosepipe to water my garden coincidentally at that time - no law against that LOL. I'd also be checking on the hours noise is allowed and seeing if I could deal with it that way.

I didn't watch the whole debate, and wonder how it got on.

I signed it. I hate fireworks anyway, always have, but I 100% signed it for various pets and animals that are terrorised and killed by them.

One of the cats I had over the years was fine with them as long as she was indoors, but my goldfish were terrified, judging by the way they moved. I'd hover over the tank and talk to them and try to calm tem down. Poor babes.

I signed the petition and have read the Hansard report.
There was a good turnout to the debate and some upsetting stories of the damage caused by fireworks.
A woman died when someone put a firework through her letterbox.
Vets were saying about the injuries to horses and other animals who became panic stricken.
Although there seemed to be a good case for banning fireworks we will have wait to see the results.

I hope they do take it further.

The debate is being shown on YouTube just now, because of the immense support for these petitions.

I have just seen this on Facebook, it's a petition to Parliament put out by Redwings Horse Sanctuary, those complaining about fireworks recently might like to sign:

Redwings' fireworks petition will be debated in Parliament on Monday 19th January at 4.30pm in Westminster Hall, and it would be really fantastic if we could have over 180,000 signatures by then.
We are so close to yet another big milestone and your name really will help us get there!

Thanks to everyone who has signed and shared the petition so far and helped achieve a parliamentary debate. You can follow the debate live online using this link. A recording will also be available to watch afterwards:
