Good afternoon,
Another grey day, but at least the fog has lifted and it looks a teeny bit brighter.

Like other posters, I wish it would brighten and warm up a touch so that I can tidy the garden a bit. It’s looking rather messy in places at the moment.

I have no plans to go anywhere this afternoon but it was the coffee morning group this morning, though not as many of us there as usual. Still, it was nice to get out and socialise a bit.

Well, I’ll wish you all a pleasant afternoon.

Good morning from a frosty East Lothian. We are waiting for our flooring fitters to arrive. We have cleared everything as far as possible in preparation for the old carpet to be ripped off and new vinyl plank flooring to be laid in the bedroom and living room. We have amassed an amazing amount of stuff in this flat which we have only had for 4 years - a lot of books as if I didn’t have plenty down in West Sussex 😂.

I got interrupted by the arrival of the flooring man. We have retreated to the bedroom as he has started on the living room. I did go outside for a bit to sort the recycling boxes. Then moved on to breaking off the dead stalks of self-seeding chamomile from the patch of stones between us and next door and reluctantly removed some moss (in case someone slips on it) from the end of the path. After that my fingers were nipping so I retreated back inside.

Best wishes to all for today. I hope it’s a better day and night for those who have had extra bad ones 🌻

Good morning all from the Black country.
Slept for over 8hrs again so haven't read through yet will catch up later with everybody's happenings.
Just a trip to Asda for something I can't get at local shops as no other shops near there it shouldn't take to long, then back to do some housework.
Safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed, have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans ☀️.

Although today is blue Monday yesterday was Winnie the Pooh Day which was greatly enjoyed on our family WhatsApp 😂

Susan56 Mon 19-Jan-26 08:31:45

I hope all check ups go well today and that Grandmabatty, madeleine and any others who feel unwell will feel better as the day goes on.

I also hope that all the grandchildren who find school difficult have a good day🙏🏻

Good morning from a rainy NE. Forecast is the same u til the end of the month when apparently it turns to snow.
Yesterday DS and GD2 visited and we had dinner together. She played the piano for about an hour and then they left as it is a 45 minute drive home and a school day today. Normally they visit on a Saturday but they were at the pantomime this week.
Nothing planned for today, maybe some washing.
Have a good day and safe journey to those travelling.

Good morning from a dull damp Suffolk after a restless night’s sleep. I’m just about to enjoy my first cup of tea whilst reading your posts.

DH discovered quite late last night that our little dog had eaten a small piece of very good dark chocolate( of course it wouldn’t be milk which doesn’t contain whatever it is that is poisonous to dogs). This happened several years ago and,on that occasion,he phoned the vet who thought she would be ok…and she was.

He thought the same this time but decided he would stay up with her just in case she was ill in the night. She has slept on the bigger sofa in the sitting room and he in the armchair. All is well.she is well and rested.DH is aching, tired but relieved all is well. I,of course, didn’t sleep very well either.

I have my annual eye check up this morning in the nearest large town which gives me an opportunity for a pop into M&S and Waterstones.

Hope all have a good day.

Gingster Mon 19-Jan-26 08:19:20

Good morning all .
We had a good trip to our seaside cottage. Skip filled, house clearance lady round to give a quote and the boys doing several trips to the tip.
Fortunately im not emotional about getting rid of ‘stuff’ so I can be ruthless. Dh on the other hand …….
Anyway we feel good about the progress.
Thank you for all your kind wishes re our sale. And Pantglas you are correct in saying ‘you know when the time is right’.

Today I’ll sort out this house and do a bit of a cull. We’ve brought a few things back , but I’m on a roll. If dh sits down for too long , he’ll be put out with the recycling.. 😉 🤓🥸.

Karma lovely to have friends who ‘don’t have a negative bone between them’. All my pals are the same which makes for easy, non judgemental times together.

GG I hope your gym session goes well. Don’t overdo it .🤸🏋️‍♀️

Take care and I’m hoping you all have a ‘good’ day.

Good morning from a brightening northwest coast.
I enjoyed the coach trip to the Lakes yesterday, although it was pouring. I hadn’t seen the mist and clouds over the hills and mountains before, very atmospheric. Big tragedy, I forgot my sandwiches made the night before! Bought a scotch egg instead and at least had my flask of coffee.

Interesting time in an old bookshop and good conversation with the owner. I’m sure he was really impressed by my purchase of Dostoyevsky short stories😁 I need more books like a hole in the head. Also bought a nice map of the Lake District. I’d like to get to know it more, it’s not too far away.

Various catch up jobs today and nice to see you back Grandmattie.

Snowdrops on the Wordsworth family grave.

GrannyIvy Mon 19-Jan-26 08:14:21

Hope you feel better today Madeleine and others feeling unwell 💐

Good morning from Durham.

Finally broke free yesterday and had a lovely walk in the valley. Muddy underfoot, rain gently falling, but it was so wonderful to feel that air brush against my face after being squirreled up in a centrally heated house for so long. So pleased I am hardly coughing at all now.

Today I will get back to my exercise class. School pick up later collecting two youngest GG.

A little sewing as I've two dresses to hem up. More fabric has been ordered. I've found a brilliant London themed one for step-son and partner who have recently bought their own flat down in the big city. They both enjoy cooking so their London themed aprons should do nicely. Once you're on a roll.....? I've found crafting, especially in the evening, so relaxing. It's certainly helped me get through those long Winter evenings.

Wishing all the best day possible.

GrannyIvy Mon 19-Jan-26 08:08:13

Thank you WhiteSwan Hope all goes well with your DGS 🤞

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a very dark, still morning in North Yorkshire. Looking forward to catching up on all your news from yesterday and today. I am cautiously moving about, physically struggling, but mentally more myself, after a horrible day yesterday.

I did not improve at all, and after struggling with a shower had to go back to bed, with the plan of hopefully doing a bit more later. Not a bit of it! I spent the day coughing for Britain, and my temperature was seesawing from feeling so cold I even put a cashmere jumper on in bed to hopefully improve things - it didnt- and then later temperature soaring and feeling breathless and dizzy from the coughing . I mostly drank water, and eventually made a sandwich, and kept falling asleep , as I obviously was very tired, but the coughing kept waking me up.

Thank goodness for radio 3, which had some good music ,and I watched bits of the snooker, but was disappointed that John Higgins didnt win. Even dozed off in the middle of that, so all in all glad to see the back of yesterday.

Today is going to be a catch up day. I should be going to the class on the phone this morning, but 1. Still feeling rough and not fit to go out 2. Dont want to give other people whatever bug I have 3. If I have another bout of coughing , no one will be able to hear the instructions. So must send a text to Nichola and tell her why I wont be there and hope she will keep any paperwork for me until next time. No good trying to ring anyone , as I cant trust myself not to start coughing.

There is enough food , including the things that I wasnt up to eating yesterday. I shall take it very gently, but will get the mince cooked with lots of veg and decent gravy, as that is quite a comfort meal to eat with a jacket potato and some cauliflower. Then I have some apples to stew, which again will give me something easy to eat, hot or cold, so I definitely wont starve. Plan to do that this morning, while I hopefully have enough energy , but will be sitting on my stool in the kitchen to peel and chop up veg etc.

There will be no bending or hoovering, but as I spent the day in bed dont think there is much needing to be done. I must do a bit of looking through paperwork, cant find my contents insurance letter, not sure when it is due, and have no note on my calendar about it, which is not like me. Dont know if I am just getting slapdash about putting dates on the calendar, or hopefully not because I didnt have any last year!!

What a very boring sort of day it is going to be, but I shall hopefully cheer myself up by getting some things sorted , so that the minute I feel better I shall be out and about. Definitely feel like the caged bird at the moment. I am in great need of going up Swaledale, and to Harlow Carr and to see some snowdrops in a garden. I will have to check up on the manual for the new buggy , as of course havent even been out on that, and I need to check the battery etc., as trying that out and it not working is the last thing I want. Oh well it is the 19th today, shouldnt be wishing life away, but will definitely be happy to see February arrive!

Hope you have a good trip today Mick and meet a few friends. GrandMattie I will have to read yesterdays posts to catch up but it sounds as though you are as usual doing more than your fair share helping out. I think the last thing I particularly remember was you washing loads of tea towels, that other lazy people had left for you to do. Hope the scottish dancing goes well. There is something called muscle memory, and even if I cant get up and dance, and to the onlooker I am not doing anything, I can hear the music and sort of move my leg muscles in the right order. It is like the memory you have when you havent done something for a long time such as riding a bike or playing the piano, your body doesnt go back to scratch but retains some of the knowledge of what you need to do. So maybe rather than the men in The Full Monty standing in the job queue and their bodies moving in time to the music, your group can sit in a row in chairs and your feet will do the talking!

Grandmabatty , hope the painkillers kick in quickly and you manage to get a nap at some point in the day.Marzipan what a lovely photo of your grandaughter riding. That used to be me years ago, I still miss riding especially when I see riders out having a great time. It is lovely that she wants to spend time with you still, hope that goes on and on. I always knew that Richmal was a woman. Read all the books for myself as a child and then to my brother and to my son over the years. Martin Jarvis is a great reader of Just William stories on audio books, if you ever want to hear that. I used to have a disc of him reading that which I used to have in the car, when I had children going to hospital with me.

Just had another coughing fit, so time to get the kettle on for some coffee, and to sit and let my sides stop aching, Hoping for an improving day. I will be back to catch up on everyones posts and see what you are all doing today. Wishing you a successful and calm day, whether it is sorting jobs out, or getting out and about and meeting friends.

GrannyIvy I hope your DGD has a good day at school today. It is an awful worry. 💐

Good morning Mick and everyone from dark Carlisle, it's not raining, that's all I know!

Yesterday, I went out for my dawn walk and found it quite frosty on the paths and was glad I'd put a heavier jacket on too.
A good job I went early as the rest of the day was gloomy and it rained all afternoon.
Most of the rest of the day was spent dossing about reading except for the baking of a large loaf of what I call 'compost bread' i.e. I sling in a selection of flours from whatever catches my eye. Mostly a locally milled flour and a very strong wholemeal from Canada. I'm trying to support the Canadian economy in my little way! A very good result achieved but I must remember to reduce the recommended amount of salt, I've got used to low salt these days.
Today, I'm off into town to collect a prescription and will probably be tempted into M&S's food hall, plus I hope to offload some clothes into the charity shop.
Once back, it's the laundry and vacuuming I think. After that, ploughing on with my UPF tome which is quite dense in places, not a quick read at all!

Have a good day everyone if possible.

Good morning from Shropshire.Another rainy day forecast.

A busy day today.I have a hospital appointment this morning. The first of five appointments this week😫very grateful but five in a week! All follow up from when I was in hospital last summer.

We will then travel on to Stafford to collect DGS1 from school.Luckily the hospital is en route. We are looking after DD1’s little dog this week so DH will walk her while I am at my appointment.

Blue Sapphire, Scarlets are my husbands home team.I can imagine the singing.DH has a good singing voice and when we are travelling down there I am treated to a rendition of those songs and more!

Enjoy the Scottish dancing grandMattie.I went to Scottish dancing classes for years when I was a child. It is very energetic!

Thoughts to all our mountaineers and to all our absent friends💐

Wishing everyone the best day possible🌻🦩

Good Morning everyone from the south coast. Just looked at the local weather forecast for the rest of January and the only day showing with any sunshine in the forecast, is tomorrow. Most disappointing if it proves to be correct - not always the case,

Lovely to see GMattie back posting - order will be restored when MDoll joins us again - health allowing of course. Still missing FGT and hoping she is coping with all their difficulties.

Not a lot on the agenda today apart from some ironing and I need to do an inventory of the freezer. On a cursory search, I can't find the frozen garlic I am sure I put in there.

Good luck with the Scottish Dancing GM but a health warning from my WI. Our President managed to break her hip in a gentle "keep fit for seniors" class. Vigorous exercise can be a dangerous sport for we oldies!

Kind regards to anyone struggling.

WhiteSwan63 Mon 19-Jan-26 07:54:11

Good Morning everyone from the East Coast.
Yesterday we went to Next so I could spend my birthday voucher. I bought a coat and a sweatshirt and DH paid the rest for me. We also bought a new suitcase as my zip had been ripped off after our Madeira holiday.

Today I’ve a lot of pottering around with a tip run with my old suitcase, picking up food bags up from the library and collecting our new lamp for our living room.
I will be picking DGS up from school hoping he’s had a good day. Our routine is strict after school until his daddy comes but it keeps him calm. This evening as is usual for a Monday we look after our grandaughters for a few hours.

It’s good to see you posting again grandmattie

Enjoy your day if you can with moments of joy, thinking of those struggling. 🌺

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where is is dry and 5 degrees.

Enjoy a browse around Cambridge Brook and safe journey home.

Off to walk at a NT property this morning to blow the weekend cobwebs away hoping this week will be an easier one for us and others on this thread.

My garden is calling me lots to do out there and is my happy place to be.

Take care everyone onwards and upwards

GrannyGravy13 Mon 19-Jan-26 07:47:48

grandMattie

*GG13*, apparently today is also national “make your bed” day. Who knew?

Oh dear, I must make my bed every morning, and change regularly including ironing all bedding 🤷‍♀️

cornergran Mon 19-Jan-26 07:44:47

Morning Mick, morning All. Another grey, wet day forecast for our corner of Somerset.

A bit of a nothing day yesterday, the activity mojo has left me. No real plans for today, may get stuck into some sorting once the laundry is out of the way.

Hope the dancing goes well grandmattie. Sounds fun.

Best wishes and a hope Monday is kind to us all.

Good morning from a damp W Kent. Cleaner coming this morning and I will tackle the ironing. Later DH and I will drive to our nearby shopping centre and walk round for some exercise, tea may also be involved.
Best wishes
