Donald Adolf Hitler Trump

At least Starmer did stand up and tell him that he cannot take over another country. But really , why isnt every single country gathering together to inform him in no uncertain terms that his threats are totally unacceptable and that he will not be allowed to behave in this way?.

Or perhaps Trump would understand it a bit better if everyone announced that they were going to claim the USA. Of course , in fact Britain could say that they are going to reclaim it ! Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander. Trump seems to think, in the same way as Hitler, that might is right, that he can just lay claim to another country for everyone to allow him to continue.
Well Donald,
even if you choose not to look at it, we know what such attitudes lead to, and we do not have short memories. Whilst I know it is not easy to be sure where everything comes from , at least we could all do our best, not to buy anything from america, and if we could get everyone in all the countries he is planning to charge to do the same, perhaps if americans were hit in their pockets , they might look at what is happening. If they are not interested in justice and fairness, then perhaps being hit in their own pockets might get them to look at where Trump is taking them.

MaizieD yes I have.

I am just uncomfortable with armchair diagnosis of what is a serious medical condition, whether that is dementia, Alzheimer’s or any other mental disorder.

As for the name calling, I would rather leave that to POTUS.

When others go low it’s best to go high, not join them in the depths.

Yes I am afraid the Trump threads often remind me why he did win which i assume isn't the aim.
Perhaps that is the German in me though grin

Maremia Mon 19-Jan-26 18:41:51

He is much worse than he was last time. He does not appear to be getting 'better'. Because of the power of the USA, the situation is dangerous, for all of us.
I don't mind, high or low, as long as something hits the mark.

Maremia Mon 19-Jan-26 18:43:26

He was elected because voters were led to believe that he would make their lives better.

As is every President or Government including our own…

Starmer has as much effect on this as a whistle in the wind.
Greenland belongs to Greenlanders, and Denmark, under which inuit children sterilised to keep the community down. Charming.
Chagos Isands belong to Chargossians, Starmer selling them off to mauritius, who have never owned them, and we have to pay.
He's giving out messages to Putin, who is threatening us with obliteration. Think he should concentrate on building bridges in our back yard not others. As for the ridiculous analogy with Hitler, really. Hard up for analogies here. Now Putin I could see some resemblance.

And has he made their lives better? Not according to many of the polls, where his popularity is, as they say, below water.
He does not wish to lose the mid terms.
He is going beyond the bounds of normal Presidents of the USA

Maremia Mon 19-Jan-26 19:01:46

Yes Freya, build those bridges. Rejoin the EU.

Our PM is in a similar position regarding polls with multiple local elections this May.

Hopefully one of our American Gransnetters will come along and tell us what it would take to remove President Trump.

Good job that you two aren’t our PM or Cabinet then, how about diplomacy?

Oreo, you are an apologist for Trump on here. So how can you say we need to be diplomatic, when DT behaves like a 12 month old throwing his toys out of the pram?
Just because they have the best equipment & technology for warfare in the world, doesn't mean that they are better than the rest of the world, How many down-on-their luck American citizens have been abandoned to despair & succumbed to entirely treatable illnesses to devote all that money to "defence"? (offence as it now turns out).
GDP from a (sorry quick, not checked) google - USA is less than 0.1% of global GDP.Their population is 0.014 % of global population. They do NOT dominate the world, & the fact that Trump believes so noisily that they do, shouldn't make us scared to make common cause with the rest of the world & resist him & his bullying,

Norway does not award Nobel prizes. He confused it with Sweden.

Actually it is Norway. But it is not the government it is an independent committee.

Of course it does 🤦‍♀️

My brain is totally fried, I will not blame the GC who is having a sleepover, just the world politics at the moment.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 19-Jan-26 20:43:22

And the steroids- hopefully you will soon be back to normal.

Three and a half weeks to go until the end of the course, I am counting the days 🤞

I don’t think I’d exactly call him insane - unless being a narcissistic megalomaniac counts as insanity. Or should that be a megalomaniac narcissist?

StoneofDestiny Mon 19-Jan-26 22:05:07

Everybody in the UK should boycott travel to the USA. That is one small way we can hit back.

Norway - the Nobel Peace Prize
Sweden - All other Nobel prizes

Does diplomacy look like rolling over for belly rubs to you?

You want acquiescence, not diplomacy

nanna8 Tue 20-Jan-26 04:00:59

I don’t think Trump is insane, I think he knows exactly what he wants and he knows he is getting older and there isn’t much time left for him so he is rushing around and sod the consequences. He doesn’t care about Europe, never has . He banks on a lack of unity and thinks he will get away with it. Possibly he is right, sadly.

Aveline Tue 20-Jan-26 07:00:20

I think Trump is in for a fright. EU countries own slot of US debt and also host some large US companies. They could make life difficult for Americans.
We're certainly boycotting America as a destination and feel pretty sorry for Americans planning a holiday in Europe this year. We met several last year who felt they had to pretend to be Canadians.

Grandmabatty Tue 20-Jan-26 07:06:25

Already usa tourism is down 7% while European tourism is up. It was reported in the guardian but the facts are easily available from USA tourist boards.

foxie48 Tue 20-Jan-26 07:58:50

Trump is trying to build a legacy ie being the Potus who increased the size and wealth of the US by the most amount. Size is important to Trump, world peace and contributions to humanity much less so. ( well not at all unless it wins him the Nobel peace prize)

Galaxy Tue 20-Jan-26 08:02:33

Why would you feel sorry for Americans holidaying in Europe. Only really weird people would behave poorly towards Americans due to their government.
