Good Morning Tuesday 20th January 2026
(42 Posts)Good morning from a still dark Bristol. The days are slowly, slowly getting longer. I don’t mind the dark evenings, but dislike the gloomy mornings.
It was a bit of a scramble to get to the hall for our WI meeting on time, only to find that everything was set up! I shan’t bother next time. The Scottish dancing was ok, although I didn’t join in.
I must stop at our lovely greengrocer to order potatoes, swedes and onions for Saturday’s Burns night party. I’m making the onion gravy - for 97! Caramelising the onions will take time on Saturday. I’ll do it in the church hall, having brought the ready cut (by me) onions and “stuff” in m6 trolley.
Bristol shopping centre first thing as I’m running out of backing fabric for the quilt im making. I also need to change bra at M&as, it wasn’t properly assembled.
I must get home before midday for the foot lady. My sweet neighbour also has his feet done, so I gave him a key just in case I have ghost buses.
This evening the PCC is meeting. The most important item on the agenda is the heating. It sounds that we may have it done and dusted by th3 end of March. Late for this winter, but at last something effective and moder.
I hope you all are safe and content, fgt, md et al have a good day.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩⭐️🦩🦩🦩
Good morning from Sheffield
I’ve been awake from a ridiculous time and I have a busy day.
Shopping with DD this morning. It’s DH birthday today so expecting both DS to drop by. Then WI this evening.
All lovely things, but I shall be weary.
Take care everyone
Good morning from a dark chilly Black Country. Woke far too early.
Arrived home from Porto around 6.30pm. Weather was hit and miss with rain the first 2 days, but luckily bright sunshine on Sunday which was our last day . Still very enjoyable, and a lovely City break. Tax from Airport was 39 Euro. Uber back to Airport 20 Euro, such a difference. Booked it, and arrived within 2 minutes!
Today I am meeting my friend to see 'I Swear' at the cinema. Silver screening, £2 each plus Tea/Coffee and biscuit! So sorting out washing from our trip will have to wait until tomorrow.
Wishing you all the best day possible. Thinking of FGT's
Good morning from s somerset, very windy later and dark gloomy skies
Lovely yesterday with the group, uplifting cheery people. Not much done but lots of interesting chat. The roads are very mucky and damp with long-term works near to me hence mud. I did debate taking my bike out for the allotment this week, my sister persuaded me not too, her dh had to use a power hose to get the mud off
It won`t be a nice day outside so I will be faffing inside all day. Will this be the day I finally finish my skirt? I hope so
Have a good day
Good morning from a dry but cloudy (according to the forecast) Sarthe.
Our dark mornings extend to about 8.30a.m here in France, grandMattie, being an hour ahead, but we do enjoy longer, light evenings as compensation.
I hope your appointments all went to plan yesterday, Susan56,
Lovely photos, NannyJan53! The taxi companies in Torbay persuaded the council not to allow Uber. We have a good, reliable service from the established ones so we don’t mind although I know Uber is cheaper as my offspring up North patronise them.
No plans for today although we might shop locally for a few essentials. Both still coughing at times.
Wishing everyone as good a day as possible, especially the absent ones. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩
Good morning from Malta where we are experiencing Storm Harry with winds reaching 100km/hr. The high today is 12°C.
We have been advised not to go out unless absolutely necessary, some schools are closed and there will be no rubbish collection today. I don’t remember quite such a fierce storm and the rain has yet to begin!
I think I will stay in my pjs today!
I don’t know how you do it grandMattie! Mass catering on that scale is quite something!
I will get up soon to watch the tennis. It has been on since around 1am our time but there wasn’t anyone playing who I was prepared to lose sleep over. Having said that, I’ve had an awful night again. My brain doesn’t seem to have an ‘off’ switch.
Hoping you all have a good day, and a very happy birthday to your DH Melanie🥳
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 4° and damp. Photos are lovely NannyJan.
Yesterday, dgs2 was very difficult before nursery. He wanted to come to my house first and would not cooperate at all. I eventually got him settled but it was wearing. After I dropped them off, I retreated to bed for a while and enjoyed a nap. My feet hurt off and on most of the day. Thank you Susan for your concern. I did an hour and a half in the school library, tidying up and reshelving books. Dgs2 helped me while we were waiting for dgs1. Once the boys had been picked up, I did a quick tidy and had an early night.
Surprisingly, I have had a good night. Only one dose of painkillers needed and two really good sessions of sleep. Today dgs2 will get his way and I'll bring them back to my house for breakfast before taking them to school. It's the usual routine anyway! The day will be spent looking for a code to open my banking app on my new phone. I must have it somewhere but not sure where. And also put steak in the slow cooker to make a casserole. Have a good day all.
Have been awake since 4.30am, still dark here in S E Essex.
The Imp stayed over last night, it’s his early morning start at school (8am) His breakfast order was placed with his staff last night (boiled eggs, soldiers and yoghurt)
DD has a rather nasty dentist procedure this morning, I will go with her. DH is off to sign paperwork for his new car and then I will follow him to sell his current one.
Thinking of those morning friends not posting 🙋♀️
Good morning from a dark, mild, serene Cornwall. The sky yesterday was a beautiful grey, like a gull's wing, almost all day. I never think the winter months are gloomy, just a time for nature to be quietly and invisibly rejuvenating.
Had a sweet time with my granddaughter who I haven't spent much time with recently because of her busy schedule. She's 10 and I've seen her every week since she was a baby but lately we've been ships passing in the night. Like so many children nowadays she is well informed and if you ask her a question she answers it encyclopaedically (if there's such a word), so an innocent horsey question, 'Do you ever gallop on your pony?' resulted in a detailed description of the difference 'between the horse's gait Nana when they gallop or canter.' I learn something new all the time from my grandchildren.
Last night we were treated to a display of the Northern Lights. The photo is from my son in a nearby town.
Today I'm going to make a pear and ginger cake while I wait to have the gas boiler serviced, booked by my landlord. Then I'm off to catch two buses for session no. 2 of my silversmithing course where we will be learning how to use silver solder. Can't wait!
Good morning everyone from a dark and damp south coast. It is supposed to be sunny today so should soon dry up if they have the forecast right.
DH is out with his cycling club today instead of tomorrow, their usual day, due to the better weather promised for today.
I already have the washer doing its efficient job in the kitchen and it should be done and ready for drying by 7am. I like to get chores done early before my energy levels start to drop. They don't last long these days.
Thinking of MDoll and FGTs especially, and all others suffering in any way. Sending kindest regards for their courage and endurance.
Good morning from South Lanarkshire.
Did anyone see the Aurora last night? It was so beautiful before the clouds spoiled the view.
Gorgeous photos NannyJan.
Stay warm and dry, Bellasnana, I hope storm Harry isn’t too fierce.
Happy birthday to MrMelanie.
I’m going to Edinburgh by bus and train in time for nursery pickup, DH has a pre surgery appointment this afternoon then will collect DDoutLaw from her hospital appointment and drive over. Sod’s Law that today turned out to be complicated as DH is scheduled for knee replacement surgery tomorrow and could have done with a quiet day at home. It is what it is.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is still dark but looks dry. I caught the early bus to the hospital yesterday to have an X-ray. It’s a walk in service and surprisingly there were only two of us there so I was in and out within half an hour. I went back into town, had a coffee in Waterstones and a good mooch round. It’s the only time I’ve been in Waterstones and not come out with a book. I must be slipping! M&S was underwhelming and there’s not much else to hold my attention in our city centre these days so I caught the tram back home; I love the tram but it was freezing yesterday.
School with my reading group this afternoon for a couple of hours. When I come home I shall ring GS. I haven’t seen much of him since New Year and he goes back to uni tomorrow.
Have the best day you can, folks
Good morning from a cloudy W Kent. I have woken up with a bad back. I did do a lot of walking yesterday, that’ll teach me! Today trip into town a couple of bags for the charity shop
Happy Birthday MrMelanie and best wishes to all
Morning all from a still dark West Oxfordshire.
It was good to go shopping yesterday and not have a painful toe! Our cleaner came so the house looks sparkling.
Someone is coming to clean the oven this morning - an Oven Valet. He comes once or twice a year. It takes him a couple of hours.
I will visit friends this afternoon. Last week I had to drive what is usually a less than five minute walk. Today I will walk!
It is my sister’s 68th birthday today. I can still remember the day she was born. I was nearly five and my father told me I had a new blonde haired sister. As she lives in Australia I rarely see her on her birthday - the last time was when I flew out for her 60th.
Have a good day everyone.
FGT2s 🌹
Good morning, damp and dreary here in south Glos, another soggy day ahead.
I barely slept last night so I’m feeling meh, at least I don’t have anything planned today except for a meeting this evening to discuss the playground and green in the centre of the small estate.
It badly needs redevelopment so a group has been formed to try and do something. I’ve offered to help with the fundraising. There are a number of young children here with no functioning playground.
I have added a small folding table to my small craft room so I don’t have to keep clearing everything away when I want to do something else. I want to do some acrylic painting but my oomph is absent!
I hope today goes well for you all 🌹
Morning Mick, morning All from a soggy and getting more so corner of Somerset. Strong winds later to add to the joys.
After a miserable morning we took a very large mixed bag to a charity shop where we were greeted with a huge smile and the comment ‘it’s just like Christmas’. Mr C went to have his hearing aids sorted while I wandered, a cuppa saw me with a (far too) large hot chocolate before home and some tidying.
The annual development budget meeting will fill this morning. The plan is to head out for lunch as a reward for sitting through it. We have several questions. Will they be answered adequately? Doubt it!
The Aurora images are beautiful.
Best wishes to everyone and a hope Tuesday is kind to us all.
I’m so very envious of those who have seen the Aurora!
I’ve been to N. Canada, Iceland, in an airplane to try and see them. Nada!
Now they are visible around here and a) I didn’t know, b) there is too much light pollution… 😩
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s cold and frosty, about 1° only
I arrived home safely last night, there were problems with the direct train to Gatwick which meant changing in London and a trip on the underground, but the flight was easy and on time. We also saw a stunning display of the Northern Lights here last night, really beautiful with lots of red and green. Thank you for the beautiful pictures this morning. Today I should be going back to the gym - will see if I can get motivated enough
Good luck with the fundraising, rosesandlilac a worthy cause
Stay safe in the storm Bellas a pj day sounds good
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
I missed the Aurora again Baubles but thanks for the photos.
Blackout blinds are still down so not sure what the weather is doing. I slept well for a change.
I went out with the walking group and was given a lift by a couple new to the area.
They have moved to be near their DS and DGC.
Exercise and Gaelic classes on my menu today plus my old chairs are to be collected maybe
Happy birthday to your DH Melanie 🎊🥂
Lovely photos NannyJan and Marzipan
Take care in those storms Bella
I hope everyone is enjoying the longer, brighter days.
Good morning everyone from mid Essex, where it’s getting light and seems to be dry out. I had a good sleep last night, and only woke up at 7.00, quite late for me.
Lovely photos this morning, thank you nannyjan, marzipan and * baubles*.
grandmattie slicing and cooking onions affects my asthma, so I rarely cook them, and buy frozen prepared onions. I’m in awe of you for caramelising enough for nearly 100 people!
My arthritic ankles are painful at the moment, but I’ll go for my usual walk to loosen them a bit. Apart from that, I’ll potter about, there’s plenty of housework to be done.
Thinking of those who are struggling in any way.
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning Mick and everyone from dark but dry Carlisle.
My trip into town yesterday was brief, I rapidly dealt with my errands including dropping off a bag of trousers in the charity shop. They no longer fit thanks to the effects of steroids and I've had to buy more in a size up, it's depressing! I consoled myself by going into the outdoor clothing shop which still had a sale on and bought myself a new puffer jacket for £14! A lovely bright purple, one of my favourite colours.
Home to the laundry and vacuuming and a bit more of that today. After lunch, if it stays dry, a walk and progressing my book, it's slow going as it's very dense on the info.
I'd like to continue looking through my stock cupboards, there's bound to be somethings I've forgotten about and need using.
Have a good day everyone if possible.
Good morning from Shropshire.A day of sunshine and showers ahead.
Yesterdays appointment went reasonably well Ash thank you.I was there for an hour, two lovely consultants and quite emotional.I felt tired afterwards and felt on the verge of tears all day.I am fine but it was just a lot and the consultants were so kind.I feel better this morning after a good nights sleep.
We then went to pick DGS1 up from school. His teacher said he’s had a good day so when I said to him Mr M said you have had a good day he said no, I hate school remember.I said well I was told you were laughing and joking with your friends at playtime and worked really hard.He said yes but grandma remember I still hate school🤦🏼♀️he’s a love and we really enjoy our time with him.
Today is a visit to mum’s solicitor and then back to Shrewsbury hospital this afternoon. As DH said at least we are getting everything done in one week.
Stay safe Bellasnana and hope the storm isn’t as fierce as forecast.
Thinking of all our mountaineers and our absent friends💐and wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻
Good morning from Durham.
Lovely photos NannaJ. We were in Porto last year so recognise those pics. We also visited Lisbon but thought Porto the more interesting.
Quiet day today. School pick up later and today we have three, as GD1 will be coming back with us too, before her gym class later. Little lady is a star. She endured two injuries last year, one which prevented her from competing for GB. However, she continues to display such solid determination and dedication. We are all so proud of her.
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning from my bit of South Lanarkshire. Lovely contrasting pictures of the colourful Aurora and the blue sky in Portugal, thank you.
A long day for both of you baubles, certainly not ideal for your DH, good that you both have the stamina to help out though. I hope everything goes smoothly and well today and tomorrow.
I’ve got the podiatrist at 10 o’clock this morning and then a two bus journey to visit my sister and brother in law in East Kilbride, I’ll get my current book finished en route.
That was a bit of faff for you yesterday Brooke but worth it for the family time I’m sure.
I was taken aback when I went for a return visit to my optician yesterday, he wanted to check on a burst blood vessel in my right eye. He is referring me to the hospital where I am being treated for macular degeneration in my left eye, for possible glaucoma in my right. I am trying not to think of the implications.
Wishing everyone the best day possible.
