Awful 2 weeks

Hello Grans!
Just a bit of a self pitying rant reallyšŸ¤”
I’ve had a difficult couple of weeks, including a UTI/Kidney infection that is still hanging about after 2 lots of antibiotics…this has made me postpone some spinal steroid injections, which l’ve been waiting 14 months for (they don’t like to give you steroid injections with an active infection. )And then if that wasn’t enough, today l struggled to the supermarket with my trolley and on the way back l fell over after tripping on a pavement stone and have cuts and abrasions on my hands, knees and feel very sore indeed.
I don’t usually feel sorry for myself, but today l do! Hope others have had a better time than me!

Please don’t underestimate the effect an infection can have on you. Boring though it may be you’re probably run down and very tired. You’ll soon recover but in the meantime just try to rest and relax at home. I had a virus before Christmas and fell over on my way to the shops. I realised that I shouldn’t have gone out that day and have resolved to be more sensible in the future.

Did you notice if the pavement stone was sticking up?
It really should be reported and your injuries noted.
Not that you will feel like doing that atm. Spoil yourself today.

Chin up Chuck.

I have been juggling various waiting lists for conditions and treatments for a list of medical conditions over the past 3 years. Also live by myself with little help.

Then in mid December..l slipped and broke my arm whilst getting off a bus and broke my arm

Very painful, can barely get about but it is slowly but surely getting better.

And that is what will happen for you as well.

Love and Best Wishes

Thank you so much.
I am sorry you’ve been suffering too. It really is a horrible illness and l wouldn’t wish it on any one of us. Hope you feel better soon xx

You have just cause to feel sorry for yourself, who wouldn't give what you are experiencing. Do hope the UTI issue is sorted and you get the steroid injections soon. The sun WILL come out tomorrow........

Just sending a virtual hug and warm blanket. Sometimes we have to take it slow and be our own fussy mother. Things WILL get better.

If you still have the uti, d mannose and cranberry extract might well do the trick. You can get both of these in health food shops or even Superdrug now. Antibiotics work less and less for this now. Oh and sugary foods are inflammatory and might prolong it. Good luck!

Bless you. I think we all get days like that at times. Winter is for hibernation. Get cosy with whatever you have, heated blanket, hot water bottle etc and rest. Your body needs rest to start to heal.

My dh and I have been ill and not able to go out for over 2 weeks and I really do feel your pain.
We have a few days away booked for next week which will probably need to be cancelled.
Chins up and onwards. flowers

Oh, poor you! Some weeks are just like that. Fortunately not all 52 of them.

I’ve been reading information on various websites about UTIs. Advice is to wear loose clothing. No tight trousers or tights. What can we wear in this cold weather?

Directoire knickers, thick stockings and a long woollen skirt?
(No, I don't fancy that get-up much either but if it does the job?)šŸ™„

I hope you are feeling a little better today Alwaysworrying and that you took the good advice given here. There’s nothing wrong with feeling sorry for yourself on occasion, and I would say that you are justified in doing so after the events of the last couple of weeks. Take care šŸ’

I am sorry you have had such a rough time, and when you feel ill, everything seems much worse. Everyone has good and bad times, and you have come to the right place as gransnet will be there for you, if you need ideas or just a chance to say to someone how bad you feel. I hope that you will be able to be kind to yourself, have a rest, make a favourite drink and a read or watch something you enjoy. Then when you feel able to go out, I would go and buy some flowers with perfume. So maybe some daffodils or a pot of hyacinths, we often forget about the sense of smell, but I do think that flowers you love, give you something lovely to look at and have that perfume that tells you things will be better.

Another thing that you might like to do when you feel a little better is make some bread. I think it is a winner all round. When you make it you can thump it and bash it and get rid of a lot of tension and stress. Then when you eat it it is lovely and fresh home made bread with some lovely jam on it. While you are not feeling good, I would avoid all the main news too , as most of it only annoys or upsets you.

Good that you have come to join us and wish you all the best

I’ve also been unable to get rid of UTIs. They’re horrible. I’m drinking lots more water and trying D-mannose. Think there’s a slight improvement after a few weeks. A fall when you’re not feeling well really is the last straw. Keep warm and hydrated. Spoil yourself with whatever you enjoy. I’ve been watching some Monty Don videos on iPlayer. The sunshine and flowers cheer me up. On a positive note the nights are getting lighter and I’ve seen some daffodils. There are better times ahead I’m sure. Sending you very good wishes for a speedy recovery.

welbeck Sat 24-Jan-26 16:01:22

Sorry to hear that.
Hope you are feeling a bit better soon.
You need to take it easy and have a rest.
I think you are trying to do too much.
Why not get groceries delivered or use a taxi.

Alwaysworrying Sat 24-Jan-26 15:54:34

Thank you so much to everyone who responded to me. Such kind, thoughtful messages. Hopefully things will improve going forward, but it’s easy to see how people can feel overwhelmed when several things go wrong for them. Also much harder when you live alone l think, but thanks so much lovely people xxx

Poor health can really depress you - so feel free to rant .
Sending you get well wishes šŸ’.

Chocolatelovinggran Sat 24-Jan-26 09:51:24

Oh you have had a rotten time. You have earned your rant.
I hope that things improve for you soon.

fancyflowers Sat 24-Jan-26 09:50:49

You can feel as sorry for yourself as you like, you've had a rotten time lately.
Sending positive vibes and hope you feel much better soon.

Scribbles Sat 24-Jan-26 09:14:16

Just sending a cyber (((hug))) and hoping you've woken to a much better day.

Greenfinch Fri 23-Jan-26 23:24:24

I hope you sleep well tonight and wake to a better day tomorrow. Tripping over a pavement stone is so easily done and can really shake you up.

Fallingstar Fri 23-Jan-26 22:24:07

Not so much self pity, I prefer to call it sympathising with yourself, and you’re allowed to do that. You should also be kind to yourself and do something nice to cheer yourself up, no matter how small or simple.
I find that a favourite piece of cake or chocolate whilst watching something relaxing in the telly generally works. But whatever floats your boat.
