Several years ago I heard a lady being interviewed on Radio Berkshire who had already visited , or was in the process of visiting every Wetherspoons in the UK.

I can’t remember the details, but I think she used to frequent them while her husband did train spotting or something?
I remember her saying she was always welcomed as a lady on her own.

I’m not a huge ‘Spoons fan (partly because of the Brexit thing) but I have to comment that EVERY Wetherspoons pub is wheelchair-accessible, even if the wheelchair access is not immediately obvious. As a carer, I think that is important.

I think the Spoons actually provides quits a really needed Social function for many older people. Especially for older men.

It's a real life line for the them.
Warm, nice surroundings and usually with good staff.

Plus, it is reasonably priced to a lot of pubs who priced themselves out of existence long ago.

So let's give it up for your local Spoons.

I think there’s an element of snobbery around spoons!

I think the buildings are absolutely magnificent & always a nod to the origins.

They are always warm & have very clear pricing.

I often pop in to mine for a bite to eat/drink, when shopping.

No one bats an eyelid to a woman of a certain age, on her own, minding her own business!

I’ve never felt uncomfortable or self conscious in there.
Free Wi-Fi & refills of tea too!

I think they definitely are a hub of social community here, we often meet in small groups as it’s no music or dog policy suits us.

Some people have never been in a spoons, yet form opinion upon snobbery…

I love and independent/ artisan cafe. I also love a Spoons! They all have their own personality but ive never felt uncomfortable in any I have visited. The food is fine and good value for money. Staff are always lovely.
I dont agree with the politics of the owner . I do agree with how accessible it is for everyone. Times are financially challenging for many. A Spoons will have something suitable and affordable for everyone if you go as a group. I have often met friends for a light lunch or even just a coffee. Their coffee and tea is excellent and of course refillable. On occasions I have stayed hours with friends and never felt uncomfortable or as if overstaying welcome because only having a coffee. Much as I love my independent cafes the cost of a couple of drinks and a light bite soon becomes quite expensive. We are lucky in that we also have several community type cafes nearby who focus on more than profit and would never throw you out if chatting over empty cup! Not everyone has access to these.
When I visit a Spoons I see a wide range of ages and needs. Its an economic way for groups to spend time together. For some it no doubt provides warmth, a hot meal and company which in a time when there appears to be many people who are lonely is brilliant.

It’s very important lefthanded so thanks for mentioning that. They also have big disabled toilets which make life so much easier.
My husband is now in a wheelchair and the staff at Spoons make us very welcome and one in particular always puts our order through straight away when there is a long wait for food.

We have a nice local Spoons. At lunchtime its mostly retired people. Breakfast menu looks good too. Drinks almost half pub price for some.
Recent menu changes have taken steak and roast chicken off the menu sadly.
Lots of people dine with friends or family. Nice atmosphere.

I do both Casdon I go with friends to three other local independant cafes/eating places one is run by a Chinese couple the wife does all the cooking and they do a delicious Big vegi roast dinner plus afters and a coffee for £14 another does a ‘small’ vegi breakfast which is huge and that’s £7.95
Then one friend loves Wetherspoons so I go there with her and I m more than happy with a vegi curry plus drink for around £7 / £8 that’s every few months so I m not a big customer but when I go I like it

Nor me. I try to support small independent cafes and bars rather than big chains whenever I can.

It's not for me. I'm obviously too posh and with too high standards but its nice that you other people have a place to go.

Absolutely. For that reason I would never be seen dead in one.

I went to the Spoons in Deansgate with my daughter and the food was good and the staff lovely. Not my first choice but excellent value. Each to his own.

Well I seem to be in the minority because I would never go into a Wetherspoons however nice the buildings might be.

I don't like Wetherspoons and wouldn't go there.

I work in one. The quality is excellent.
