Am I the only one who gets fed up waiting for a person taking their time reverse parking whilst we have to watch them patiently. 🤔

I don’t get fed up waiting . I appreciate that they may be a new or anxious driver . And an impatient driver is very off putting to the driver trying to park .

I’m not a good Parker at all and make for the disabled spaces if free and get my moneys worth out of my passand many of our parking spaces don’t have a pavement behind anyway to unload shopping.

Oh, this really hit a nerve. I totally identify with you Dollygloss. No matter how straight I thought I was my front was always just a bit out of line, my wheels not straight. For some reason I could reverse and parallel park perfectly, even without the camera.
I gave up driving because my eyesight was poor and assumed that was what caused it, or I was just incompetent, but hadn’t thought about spacial awareness. I never had much of that so maybe that was the case.
I have to admit being heartened to know I wasn’t the only one.

I just consider it a good result if I manage to get the thing between the lines! Did recently reverse into a parking spot and got it right the first time, just wished someone had been with me to see. Mind you there were no cars parked on either side and nobody queueing behind.
Never look at the position of the wheels, never occurred to me.

You are right Thisisme its the last fussy moves after reversing in that change the position of the wheels. I suspect though some new cars are doing it all with driver assist. Otherwise there would be more like me. I seem to be a rare bird!

My problem i find is that cars are getting much to wide now . It seems that when i come back to my parked car i find a great big 4 wheel drive so close it is difficult to get into my car , time they started to widen parking bays

For what it is worth, the only way I could reverse park was to eye it up in the mirror, then shut my eyes and just do it by memory.
Passed my test that way.. it's ok, I don't drive now🤣

Enter the space at a 90° angle if you can.

I think the part your missing is, to straighten up your wheels once your parked instead of leaving them in last position they were in whilst parking.

If the wheel sticks out too far and is caught a glancing blow by a vehicle passing very close it can damage the suspension. That's what my father told me anyway. I straighten the wheels even if I have to get back in and restart the car, also fold in the mirrors.

Heavens, this is a 1st world problem. And I'm far too busy stuffing mushrooms. As long as I'm within the lines and not stick out into traffic I leave the wheels on the same lock that I drive in on, this makes it easier to drive out.

I consider myself a good parker. In fact, I sometimes park for my husband if he’s struggling.
However, I never look at the steering wheel to check it’s aligned. I wouldn’t even think of doing that. I’m not even sure it’s a reliable measure of accuracy.
Some people on here have said they find it difficult to park straight within the lines and end up at an angle. Don’t you peep out of the window or open the door slightly to check before leaving the car? There’s no shame in doing that.
I wonder how many of you take advantage of shop windows to observe the reflection of the car (and more importantly, the one behind and/or the one in front) when parallel parking? It’s a great way to judge the distance you have to reverse or go forward.

I have driven many different cars of different size and engine, towed caravans and reversed them onto a pitch but my latest car is a nightmare to end up with straight front wheels. I too am now obsessed with having them straight. No priblem driving straight in or reversing into a space, but the front wheels, maddening!

I’ve recently discovered after moving house and several trips to the tip, that I can’t reverse park into a diagonal space. Each time I have gone there, I could not do it, even with a reverse camera! Yet everyone else seemed to be able to, regardless!

Reverse park..I never or ever have drove into a space unless I absolutely have to. Much easier reverse parking

It's also good practice to be able to make a quick exit.
It's unlikely you will need to do so but life is predictable and better to be prepared for any eventuality.forewarned is forearmed.
So be pointing forward whenver possible.
Also safer for visibility.
Likewise always keep enough fuel in your tank to be able to leave from your house in any direction unexpectedly eg in the middle of the night.

Check your wheels are straight and your logo should always be in the same place, in relation to the front wheels. If it is in different places at different times you have a problem. However, I wouldn't advise parking your car and relying on the logo for the wheels being straight. It doesn't really matter if your wheels are straight or not. It is very common for the logo to be misaligned.

I couldn’t agree more MOnica. As long as I’m in the space relatively well I M not bothered what way the wheels are facing.

No you’re not! I find it very tedious too.

My DH suddenly began to park on the skew. Got new car and it has gone away. A friend always parks on the skew when she drives in, and I realised that she had the same model as his old one.

Looking, it is that the back is wider than the front, so you line your door up straight and the whole car is wrong because the door itself is not straight.
