I've just read a lovely interview with Francis Rossi where he talks about what he's up to these days. Welcome to my world!! I'd swap the crosswords for codewords and sudoku but DH and I are enjoying Foyle's war for the umpteenth time. Good storylines and acting and not a celebrity anything in sight. My jigsaw is also calling me from the dining room. It's good to know that the groups and singers of our age aren't too different from ourselves. He still does some touring though - Rock on!!! I wonder what Mick Jagger gets up to in his down time? What do you do?

I really love the guessword puzzle on here everyday, 40 seconds was my quickest time to get a word, it’s my daily brain exercise, also love a game of scrabble and recently played a board game called QUIRKLE, really enjoyed that, think that’s a good one for playing with grandkids.

It was Francis Rossi's Grandmother I believe that started Rossi's ice cream in London and then in Southend......gorgeous.

I'm rewatching all the old crime dramas, Frost, Prime Suspect, Vera, Waking The Dead etc and love suduko. Where did you read the Francis Rossi interview please as I would love to read it ~ thanks.

Michael Kitchen was a very underated actor. I loved him and thought he was quite dishy

One of them has the original Inspector Lynley, odd as a new version has just appeared!

The Inspector Lynley Mysteries with Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small is on U.
I've just finished watching all six series.
Going to look at Foyles War next as everyone speaks so highly of it!

Sounds like me with the addition of my daily NYTimes Wordle and codebreaker, Oh! and "talking" to you lovely ladies, of course.

However, DH is into Little House on the Prairie and Now the Waltons - driving me insane!

Crochet, sudoku, EF Benson stories, PD James whodunnits...not a jigsaw person, but I only recently discovered Downton Abbey and Call The Midwife, so not short of things to watch!

I'm stuck in bed with an awful cold so have rewatched the BBC's North & South, Pride & Prejudice - next on the list is Persuasion. Bliss!

Is North and South on catchup? I’ve been rewatching a lot of the old BBC classic series recently but haven’t seen that.

DrWatson Wed 28-Jan-26 18:27:16

I haven't seen Mr Rossi's chat, but yes even rockers get old!

I'm surprised to see the comments about not knowing Foyles' War, it's been repeated many times. It's on ITV3 right now, they're up to about series 5, one a night.

Lots of channels to see old films/TV, Talking Pictures for instance, ITV3, Gold, Drama (Bergerac, Howards' Way, Summer Wine, New Tricks, Kingdon etc), Thats TV (1,2 and 3 of them! - presently Oh Dr Beeching, Rising Damp, When the Boat Comes In, Yes Minister, and many more!). One of them has the original Inspector Lynley, odd as a new version has just appeared!

My affection for Rod Stewart increased when he talked about his train set.

Greyduster Wed 28-Jan-26 10:22:25

I’m another Foyles War fan - watched it numbers of times. Honeysuckle weeks was excellent as Sam Stewart but in her later acting career she took on some much darker roles. Not to get typecast I suppose.

Codewords for me too but not jigsaws. They were DH’s pastime of choice. His last one is still in the puzzle holder unfinished. It’s a fiendish one of Stone Henge. Just two colours; green and grey! I expect someone will take it on again one day.

I also like a crossword but am too dim for cryptic clues so stick to general knowledge! Other than that I do a bit of art work, scribble the odd essay and stare out of the window.

We enjoy Foyles War so much we bought the full set of DVD’s on eBay.

I enjoy word puzzles and do jigsaws on my iPad too.

I’m an avid knitter and enjoy nothing more than knitting whilst listening to an audiobook.

Code word, love it. I only do it once a week now as we only have the one paper The ST. Occasionally o/h brings The I back, theirs stumped me the other week, cracked it in the end, but practically ruined my day before I didgrin

When my best friend and husband come and stay we're often side by side her with Sudoku,I've never got into that. Looking over each others shoulders her "I don't understand code word" me "likewise Sudoku"

Husband loves Foyles War, I'll watch it with him, it's a bit slow, although I appreciate it captures that wartime period well.

Jigsaws when roped in by grandchildren although not so much these days. Younger one still likes the mammoth ones.

I do jigsaws online 😃

I also do jigsaws online. When someone suggested it I thought she was mad but I really enjoy it. Still do jigsaws old style as well though.

I had never seen Foyle’s War before so am really enjoying watching it.

Same here, started watching it a few weeks ago as it’s on Netflix.
What a joy it is! A good story, plot and acting with accurate clothes, accents, speech, cars and so on of the early 1940’s.
Everyone in the cast is perfect for the part they play.

GillyMo Wed 28-Jan-26 06:49:26

Foyle's War is one of my favourite series. The acting is so good that it draws me into that world almost like I'm really there. Michael Kitchen plays it so perfectly - understated, quiet, determined, almost Buddha like.

I agree with Francis on the jigsaws too!

Funny, your post came to me in the middle of the night! Rick Parfitt said he knew he was getting older when he preferred a good cuppa to sex. I never laughed so much. I thought he was gorgeous. RIP Rick Parfitt.

Anyone who has finished Foyle's War would enjoy Inspector George Gently (unless you've seen that too).

Lee Ingleby as his sidekick DS John Bacchus is one of my favourite actors. He has such a clear speaking voice you can hear every word he says. He was the narrator of Pilgrimage and also the voice of Bob the Builder!

nanna8 Tue 27-Jan-26 23:53:46

I love Foyles War but I have watched them all now, sadly. Michael Kitchen is perfect for the part and he looks and talks just like my SIL who is a lawyer.

MrsQuigley Tue 27-Jan-26 23:23:14

I love jigsaws, always have one on the go since lockdown. Have only just started watching Foyles War, hopefully I will get into it. Also a huge Quo fan.

Freya5 Tue 27-Jan-26 21:51:37

I have just watched Inspector Alleyn mysteries on you tube, lots of decent old films too if you look , Sherlock Holmes old versions, one of my favourites.
I am learning to crochet, enjoy knitting too. Lots of things to keep the grey matter working. Have a jigsaw, but so big I'm still doing it a year later . Gardening when weather and back permit.😂.

Fallingstar Tue 27-Jan-26 21:17:38

I do jigsaws, and online scrabble. I also love watching true crime series on prime video, especially Homicide Hunter with Joe Kenda or American Detectives again with Joe Kenda.
