Hope nobody minds me opening a new kitchen.

Hello kitchen people.

Not a bad day. Palm Sunday service at a tiny Georgian church. I cooked beef bourguignon for dinner, which is a favourite. Pudding was slightly disappointing. I tried a new Mary Berry chocolate mousse recipe. It definitely lacked lightness even with three egg whites. We had it with lashings of cream.

I watched three of The Other Bennet Sister and will watch the rest tomorrow.

Sleep 💤 tight.

cornergran Sun 29-Mar-26 22:38:24

A quick visit as I really should be sleeping, we need to be out the door at 6.30 tomorrow, a time I didn't know existed since I finished work ten years ago! Mr C is sound asleep already. I’m so envious. The map tells me we won’t be that far from fgt, it’s what we call a fair walk from here and of course we can’t be late.

A 50 minute voicemail arrived from our goddaughter. Anyone with sense would have left it, afraid I don't have sense. Its left me a lot to think about.

I’m glad you have such good family support granmarie, a real blessing.

Your hair is super jax. Serious hair envy here. Mine is frankly dreadful.

That was good job news utbb, well done that young man.

This was supposed to be a quick visit. Off I go, I’ll settle down and with luck sleep will come. Night, night everyone.

brook2704 Mon 30-Mar-26 14:35:49

Hopefully you got some sleep corner and today is going as well as possible
It’s a real cold blustery day here, I’m just home from a volunteering session and some food shopping. I hung some washing out earlier, it’s blowing in the wind but not really drying due to the showers
Homemade fish and chips later and then an evening with the TV
Hope all our friends in the quiet corner are doing ok, take care all x

brook2704 Mon 30-Mar-26 15:01:25

Good to see you Yia and hoping all goes well for your DH this week, enjoy your family get togethers over Easter

Redcar Mon 30-Mar-26 15:46:24

I hope your week goes well yiayia. Have a lovely time with your family at Easter.
cornergran I hope your journeys today are trouble free and that the funeral goes as well as can be expected.

Cold and showery here today, I’ve managed a few minutes weeding in between the showers. Typically the window cleaner came this morning!

I drove to the local garden centre first thing this morning, but wasn’t tempted by any of the plants they had on display. I did buy some seed compost in case I decide to plant seeds later. They sell some pretty china and toys but fortunately not clothes!
Enjoy the rest of the day folks.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 30-Mar-26 16:08:54

Good afternoon all.
I have just had an unexpected visitor and how lovely it was, I have found since Covid people don’t just drop in but a friend I don’t see much of since they moved had been to a Dentist locally and called to see if I was”receiving guests”.
We had a lovely chat and it cheered me up.
Today would have been my H’s 90th birthday and it has affected me more than usual.
Thanks Yia perhaps you read Good Morning.
I send my kindest thoughts for your H’s appointments this week, it is a long and hard road you are travelling, along with others on this thread.
TOYA.

Grandmabatty Mon 30-Mar-26 17:54:58

How nice to have an unexpected visitor Utbb. It's been cold here too RedcarI have not been tempted to go outside. Yiayia I hope your dh gets on ok.
The boys are away and I'm having a rest before I tidy up. Dinner will be chicken curry and rice which just needs heated up. Enjoy your evening kitchen folk

Jaxjacky Mon 30-Mar-26 18:31:41

Hi all, I do hope today has passed reasonably corner 💐
Good to see you Yia my good wishes to your husband for a hiccup free week, enjoy your weekend both.
How cheering utbb the timing was magical.

MrJ’s car passed its MOT, he’ll collect it tomorrow.
Leftovers to sort out for dinner.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 30-Mar-26 18:40:43

We have had sun, rain and wind at various times today and it’s chilly.

I need to go and throw the chicken in the oven 🤷‍♀️

Grannmarie Mon 30-Mar-26 18:48:50

Good evening, lovely Kitchen people.🥰

Beef bourguignon sounds warming and delicious, Ladyleftfieldlover. Sorry you were disappointed about your pudding, that's not like you, but I'm sure the lashings of cream helped!

Thank you, Cornergran. I hope the funeral went as well as possible, your poor granddaughters will have been comforted by your presence.

Very cold here too, brook. I managed a wee bit of repotting some shrubs with help from DS3, but was glad to come back indoors. Enjoy your fish and chips, I'm going to have a fish fingers sandwich with salad after House of Games.

Thank you, YiaYia, I'm thinking of you your DH, hoping and praying that all goes well for appointments and procedure next week. Enjoy your Easter gatherings with your family.

I wish my window cleaner would appear, Redcar, haven't seen him recently... Well done on your weeding!

Glad to hear that you had a welcome visitor on this bittersweet day, Usedtobeblonde. Thinking of you 💐.

Enjoy your chicken curry, Grandmabatty! You've earned it. You're right about this cold spell, we think twice about spending time outside. I had hoped to have a bit more tidying up done in the garden but it's been so wet and windy recently. Roll on Spring!

I took my car to be valeted this morning after Mass. It looks brand new! 🚗 Another tick on my never ending list. ✅

I'm looking forward to the TV 📺 quizzes, then some more Miss Bennett! Small pleasures.
Hope you can soon return to your Pub Quiz, Jaxjacky, you're doing so well!

Wishing everyone a peaceful Monday evening. Thinking of our dear Soops and all in the Quiet Corner.
TOYA, NNGB.

Grannmarie Mon 30-Mar-26 18:50:33

Hello 👋*GrannyGravy*! I laughed out loud at the image of you chucking your chicken!🐔

Usedtobeblonde Mon 30-Mar-26 21:38:19

A friend has rung me this evening, she had been to funeral on Friday, a woman ,mid eighties, who had a real zest for life.
I only knew her as someone at the school gate over 50 years ago.
It was apparently a very “ happy “ funeral and one of the songs they sang was ..
Enjoy yourself
It’s later than you think
Enjoy yourself while you’re still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself , enjoy yourself it’s later than you think.
It has now been an ear worm for a couple of hours.
Appropriate or not, I can’t decide.

Oh Kitcheners I’m so sad tonight. I bumped into an acquaintance in the square this afternoon. Her husband had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October and she was devastated to inform me that he had died mid January. They both thought the treatment at Christie’s would hold the disease awhile. He was only 63. Bluddy cancer. F**k it. It stunned me it was obviously so very aggressive. The poor woman and her family. I’ve felt quite unsettled to be honest. x

Redcar Mon 30-Mar-26 22:31:34

Oh fgt how dreadfully sad. I’m so sorry, it must have been very unsettling for you. flowers sending hugs your way too.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 30-Mar-26 22:32:20

Hello kitchen people.

I’m not surprised that was unsettling FGT. I’ve known three people with pancreatic cancer. One was my cousin’s wife who was only 42. None of them survived a year from diagnosis.

I did the usual Waitrose shop today. Our cleaner cleaned. I finished the latest volume of Alan Bennett’s diaries. Then I watched the last two episodes of The Other Bennet Sister. Highly recommended. So well cast and acted.

Sleep 💤 tight.

brook2704 Mon 30-Mar-26 22:54:19

Sad news fgt ❤️

Grandmabatty Tue 31-Mar-26 06:37:14

FGT that is so sad and must have unsettled you.

brook2704 Tue 31-Mar-26 15:45:30

Hi kitchen pals, it’s a much better day here today, still quite breezy but sunny and a bit warmer. I’m just home from the gym and the walk into town, having a very quick late lunch as it won’t be long before dinner. I’m sat in the warm conservatory watching the washing swirling round outside on the dryer - it’s a good job it’s securely pegged
I hope your visitors have arrived safely, or well on their way grannmarie and you enjoy hosting, hope all goes well
I’m hoping Soop is doing ok and all our friends in the quiet corner, take care all x

Grandmabatty Tue 31-Mar-26 16:28:47

Hi Brook. I'm scrolling while dgs1 plays football in my hall and dgs2 draws on paper in the kitchen. Dgs1 has decided he wants to draw now too. I've had another lazy day which will stop shortly when I take the boys home and then tidy up the house. My whirly falls over regularly so I need a stronger one but that'll be when my garden gets sorted. Fight started so I better go and referee

Grannydaisy1 Tue 31-Mar-26 16:43:09

fgt awful news flowers

Jaxjacky Tue 31-Mar-26 17:33:30

How very sad fgt 🥀
After the gloom lifted we’ve had sun, warm too, we sat in a pub garden with a friend drinking coffee and catching up. I had a pleasant four figure win on the people’s lottery, I thought the gold envelope was marketing tat destined for the bin!
I’m a ‘bunger’ GG13 bunging items into the oven!
I hope NannyTopsy is recovering well.
Enjoy your evenings all.

Usedtobeblonde Tue 31-Mar-26 18:16:58

Are you accepting begging letters Jaxjacky?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 31-Mar-26 18:27:59

Ooh lucky you Jaxjacky £££££

After the morning at an indoor trampoline park with two GC, the afternoon ironing (including bedding) I am about to have a glass of wine, and bung some sausages in the oven.

In my defence, they are our local butchers homemade ones 😹

Jaxjacky Tue 31-Mar-26 18:49:23

Sadly utbb my offspring and grandchildren are in the queue already!
