Oh hope you feel better soon Grandmabatty

It has been non stop rain here all day, so dreary and grey.

We have the 10yr old here for his sleepover so I need to go and start preparing dinner.

Thinking of soop and those in the quiet corner

Grandmabatty Thu 05-Feb-26 17:19:37

Thank you Grannygravy. A quiet day should set me up tomorrow.

Jaxjacky Thu 05-Feb-26 17:36:35

Tired today, my sleep was broken last night.it’s been wet and miserable today.
Hope you recover quickly Grandmabatty.
I shall be halving an early dinner and night, xx to all.

Hello lovely kitchen people. I was missing for most of January and have just now caught up with most of the news I think...
Dusty Angel my love and prayers for you and your girls. May he rest in peace.
Baggs...back pain just sucks doesn't it. I have had two spinal surgeries and it's been badly affected by the hip problem. I hope it eases soon.
NannyT... Isn't it wonderful to see signs of Spring popping up despite the rain.
Kitty, I too didn't realise how serious your ops has been...I think my last message might have been to wish you luck with the first one. I really hope you are starting to feel stronger. As for your poor DD...I hope that the antibiotics hold things at bay until she can have the op, can she ask to go on the cancellation list?
Yia... It's not nice waiting for scan results, I hope they come through very soon and it's good news.
Redcar... Hopefully tonight will be a better night for you. Lying awake and wanting to sleep is frustrating too say the least.
Lovely to hear that our Soop is in good spirits.. Long may it continue.
Jax... Did you have to have another op in the end?...if so we are now both post hip oppers....
I finally had my surgery last Wednesday... It was a 4 and a half hour operation in the end... They had to remove all the previous hip replacement and discovered that the cup had been incorrectly set and was impinging against the stem and wearing away. No wonder it hurt. I felt vindicated finally. I had known from the moment I stood up after the first op that something was wrong and likewise my first time standing this time it felt right. My leg and foot are facing forward once more. I was treated like royalty, no other operation on that afternoon, the 2 orthopaedic surgeons who I had been under operating and the lead anaesthetist. This was probably because I was the first to be operated on under this new OPS system. I am grateful to them for gaining accreditation in 8 months rather than 3 years and that others following on will benefit too. I am home now and each day is a little better. I'm tired but that's to be expected I think... Things have definitely perked up since the beginning of January with DH's redundancy and DDog 3 cancer diagnosis.
Thinking of all of you struggling in any way . ❤️

Oh sorry to hear you’ve been feeling unwell grandmabatty hope you’re better tomorrow
Another dry day here but still very cold, the weather just won’t warm up. We’ve been to Inverness Castle today, quite interesting with lots of exhibits. A lovely lunch in the cafe there then we called into M&S on the way back and picked up a curry for dinner later
Hope you’re doing ok Jax and gradually getting more mobile
Good to hear you’re over the worst not neine and on the road to recovery
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

kittylester Thu 05-Feb-26 18:05:01

Good to see you neine and good to that all seems to be going well. DD2 has an outpatients appointment next week.

I hope everyone has a peaceful night and sleeps well. Me especially grin

SueDonim Thu 05-Feb-26 18:12:38

flowers for all afflicted with illness, operation recovery and troubles. Life’s a challenge at times.

More rain here today and no respite in the near future according to forecasts. I spotted what I thought was a purple crocus in someone’s front garden today. It turned out to be a discarded Cadbury’s chocolate wrapper. confused

Dh has been troubled with more pain this week and I’ve been trying to configure his medications in order to control the pain. The GP surgery has been helpful so I feel more certain of what it’s safe to do. He has one single session of radiotherapy tomorrow, which hopefully will knock out the troublesome area in his lung and make him more comfortable.

TOYA. Xxx

Usedtobeblonde Thu 05-Feb-26 18:27:37

Good evening and oh dear what a lot of unwell people on here,.

Yia I had to scroll back as I missed your H’s scans , I hope the wait is soon over and the news is what you want to hear.
Grandmabatty hope you soon feel better, the weather is not helping at all and I haven’t been able to get warm today.
* neine* you must be pleased your surgery is behind you now and can look forward and I hope your personal worries ease.
Jax you are being very stoic, my kindest thoughts go to you.

I have had an early dinner and shall be in bed before long in the hope I can get warmer there.
I know I will have forgotten someone but be assured my thoughts are with you all.

Usedtobeblonde Thu 05-Feb-26 18:29:09

SueD just read your message and you and your H are included with sincerity in those wishes.

Grandmabatty Thu 05-Feb-26 18:52:16

SueDonim I am really sorry to hear about your dh. Utbb thank you and the others for your kind words. This bug won't last, I'm sure. Others have it much worse.

Redcar Thu 05-Feb-26 22:13:59

grandmabatty I hope you will soon feel better. I feel that a duvet day is a good idea in this foul weather, especially if you’re feeling rubbish!

sueD I’m sorry that your DH is in pain, hopefully the combination of radiotherapy and adjusted dosage of painkillers will ease the pain for him.

neine I’m pleased that you had your operation and that it has been successful in easing your pain. Onwards and upwards!

I hope your recovery is now going smoothly jaxjacky and that you sleep well tonight.

I’ve been at DD1’s all afternoon, not needed to look after dog and granddaughters, but just a nice visit and dinner cooked for me. My car was returned this evening, I have to drive it and let the mechanic know if I think it’s found it’s “get up and go”. I hope so, it’s been a bit inconvenient without it and while I’m happy to take taxis, the cost mounts up after a while!

Thinking of all those with worries and pain and sincerely hope you get some relief and are able to sleep well tonight. I may be on the 3 o’clock thread!

Night night everyone.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 05-Feb-26 22:41:16

Hello kitchen people.

Gosh, there is a lot of illness and recovery from illness and operations going on! I’m thinking of you all,

Sleep 💤 tight.

Nannytopsy Fri 06-Feb-26 17:55:22

It’s a very quiet kitchen today! I have had a pre-op trip out by myself to get bits and pieces sorted out, because I won’t be allowed to drive for a while. It was a horrible cold, wet day. Managed to get some lovely dahlia tubers which I hope to start in the last week of February, if it’s a bit warmer. 🤞
I hope the poorlies are feeling better. Bring on the sunshine!

Usedtobeblonde Fri 06-Feb-26 18:01:56

Good evening, yes it is very quiet.
I went out for a coffee with my very recently widowed friend.
It is still over two weeks until his funeral.
We just went to a local small cafe , I didn’t know it was there but was impressed.
I can’t decide what to eat, I have no appetite at all.
Absolutely no news and I think the same will be true all weekend, oh roll on spring.

brook2704 Fri 06-Feb-26 20:58:25

Hi kitchen pals, hope everyone is doing ok
Sorry to hear about your DH SueD hoping he’s been feeling ok today and the radiotherapy session has gone as well as possible
It’s been dry here again, we’ve not had much rain at all recently but it’s still very cold with an even colder wind. Having said that I still wrapped up warm and went wandering about in the garden this afternoon for some fresh air. There’s some early signs of spring, a few bulbs showing and healthy looking buds on some of the rhododendrons and azaleas, like you say nannytopsy we just need to bring on the sunshine!
Thinking of all our poorly kitcheners, take care all

Redcar Fri 06-Feb-26 21:28:26

It’s still very quiet in here. I’m watching the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, very stylish, but totally incomprehensible as usual. I remember watching them when I was in the last few days of pregnancy with DD1. I had her on Friday 13th February and missed seeing John Currie winning his ice skating gold medal - no television in the maternity ward! DD1 will be 50 next Friday.
I took my car for a little drive this morning and it seems to have a bit more ‘get up and go’. Not the best morning to go for a drive, pouring with rain and huge puddles everywhere. I drove along one road and realised the puddle was actually a burst water main. I went through it fairly slowly but it still made a huge splash - gave the car a clean anyway.

Thinking of all those in the quiet corner and those who are struggling or in pain this evening.

Only 5 hours sleep again last night, so I’ll be off to bed soon. Night night everyone, sleep well.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 06-Feb-26 22:06:35

My S has just texted me to say the Olympic opening ceremony was rubbish
He loves any sport and will be watching the games but was totally underwhelmed with the opening.
How many of us remember Eddie the Eagle I wonder?.

SueDonim Fri 06-Feb-26 22:11:29

Thank you for the kind thoughts for DH. ❤️ The radiotherapy session was straightforward, all done and dusted in less than an hour. Dh has been sleeping for much of the day, I think because of the extra morphine. We did get town to do a few errands and have coffee out, which was nice. It’s still raining here, as it will all weekend, we’re told, so I think it’ll be a quiet one for us!

TOYA. Xx

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people.🥰

Such difficult days for so many dear Kitchen friends, I'm sending love and prayers for all who need/ wish them. ❤️🙏🕯

SueD, I hope your DH's treatment today was helpful and he is more comfortable.

Grandmabatty, I hope the rest has helped and you are feeling more like yourself.

Jaxjacky, hoping your recovery continues apace. You'll be missing your quiz nights and meat draw, fingers crossed it won't be too long before you can pick up on your routines.

UsedToBeBlonde, hope your appetite returns and you can enjoy something tasty. I'm sure your friend appreciates your company and support in these days of limbo.

brook, your garden sounds like it is wakening up! I only have tubs on the patio but I have some snowdrops, Christmas roses and small shoots that look like daffodils. Fingers crossed 🤞 we don't get more frosty weather.

My two younger sons shared their birthdays yesterday, they were both born on snowy days, three years apart, forty five and forty two years ago. The Wee Boy will be six on Saturday. Time flies.
I have been blessed to spend the whole week in the company of my grandchildren, Monday to Thursday with the teenagers, this afternoon and evening with the Wee Boy. Not often that happens, I'm tired but very thankful. DS3 will drive me through to the birthday celebrations tomorrow, I've driven West to east and back again this week.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Friday evening and a good night's sleep. Hope you get some more zzzs tonight, Redcar, Cornergran too.

TOYA, NNGB.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 06-Feb-26 22:23:27

Hello kitchen people.

Elder son and our granddaughter are here for a couple of days. I cooked her favourite bangers and mash for dinner followed by a Sachertorte I had made and frozen last year and homemade lemon iced cream.

I’m not sure what we’re doing tomorrow. The weather is predicted to be awful. We might pop into Oxford and look round a museum or two.

I’m feeling just a bit under the weather. Slightly feverish and achy. I’d better feel better tomorrow.

Sleep 💤 tight.

Grannmarie Fri 06-Feb-26 23:30:24

Neine, great to hear from you, so glad that you are through your surgery and it has been successful this time. Sorry to hear about your DH's redundancy and your wee dog's diagnosis. Take care.

I loved the opening ceremony. Far too long but worth it for Nessun Dorma sung brilliantly by Andrea Bocelli.

I could do with one of these coats.....

Jaxjacky Sat 07-Feb-26 09:29:51

Pleased your op was successful neine onwards! No extra op for me - yet - after two dislocations I’m spending my days carefully until orthopaedic appointment on the 16th.
I’m fingers crossed SueD the radiotherapy did the job.
What a lovely week Grannmarie enjoy today.

Grandmabatty Sat 07-Feb-26 15:38:06

Pittcity, I missed Nessun Dorma! I'll have to catch it on iplayer. jaxjacky fingers crossed 🤞.
Another lazy day but I'm starting to feel more human. Emptied and loaded the dishwasher, stripped the bed and got it all washed and dried and did a little tidying. I'm heading to dds later to babysit the boys. It won't be a late night. Have a good evening all.

Redcar Sat 07-Feb-26 16:24:09

I enjoyed the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics too and loved those coats, but I think they’d get spoilt with all the mud here!
grandmabatty I’m glad you’re feeling a little better today. Nessun Dorma was brilliant!
jaxjacky I hope the next 9 days until your consultant appointment go quickly and that the appointment goes well. You must be almost afraid to move in case the hip dislocates again. (Fingers crossed it stays where it’s supposed to be)
Have an enjoyable evening folks!
