No one has posted since Thursday

Well. I haven’t slept a wink - had bad news - my oldest 2 GC’s other grandad passed away yesterday, quite suddenly . A tall strong man, 84. No previous cardiac history. My grandson and he were very close, played golf together.
My grandson is devastated - so is my granddaughter.
I am so sad. He was a kind man . I always called him, if I wanted a lightbulb changed . I don’t know how his wife J will cope. 😢

Thanks, grandMattie, I certainly did need it. Back to four hours last night though.

grandMattie Thu 14-May-26 08:12:56

That’s interesting, doodle. You must have needed it.
Curiously, an article in my paper today suggests that the much advertised, mythical and trumpeted 8 hrs per night “will speed aging”! Apparently, the sweet spot is between 6.5 and 7.3 hours, so I’m not doing so badly.
It’s also interesting that so many of the old shibboleths are found to be wrong. How many more will be shattered?

Doodledog Thu 14-May-26 00:40:27

I got nine (9!!) hours’ sleep last night. I’ve been unwell, and I think it ‘broke’ overnight as I woke up aware that I’d been sweating but felt reasonably rested.

I had a long and vivid dream (not a nightmare, but unsettling) so it wasn’t as therapeutic as it might have been, but I’m sure it’s done a lot of good all the same. I’m wide awake now, but I have no commitments tomorrow so can sleep late if I am able to.

Esmay Wed 13-May-26 04:29:54

I slept very nicely at the weekend.
Bliss .
But now I've been awake since three.
I had The Cough which I've fixed with an inhaler and some nice hot tea .
It's passed .
But -
I'm streaming with congestion and itching with hay fever .
So now I'm trying some antihistamines.

I'm busy tomorrow and I know that having not slept I'll struggle through the day.

RosesandLilac Wed 13-May-26 04:15:40

It’s very quiet here, hopefully everyone is sound asleep.
I’m coughing and spluttering, I honestly don’t know where this cold has come from 🙄
It’s dark, cold and silent outside apart from a fox shrieking in the woods behind us.
I had a very successful car search yesterday, I have found my little automatic car, it’s a metallic orange Micra! Very bright and cheerful, lovely to drive around and, even better, nearly a direct swop for my old car. Very pleased with how things have turned out.
Today there’s a zoom painting class this morning, I need to get everything ready, looking forward to it.

JamesandJon33 Wed 13-May-26 02:04:07

I’ve been awake since 11:30. DH has done a lot of gardening today and his hip and knees are giving him jip, so he has been snoring like a grampus. Banished to the spare bedroom at midnight. But I just can’t sleep.

JamesandJon33 Mon 11-May-26 05:48:31

Not too bad a night. Woke twice but went back to sleep easily. Woke properly at 5 .

SORES Mon 11-May-26 04:46:01

HelterSkelter1 - my Gran awake at 5 or 6 referred to the dawn as ‘halflight,’ one word, emphasis on the ‘half ‘

Im wide awake and hungry, for Ceylon tea and toast
with bitter orange marmalade.

I had to close the window its cold out there 3 degrees,
now attempting renewed slumbers, bladder allowing.

grandMattie Sun 10-May-26 05:45:19

I’m going through a patch of sleeping a bit better.
I get about 4 hours, then wake up for over an hour. I refuse to be defeated, don’t put the light on, finally go back to sleep very deeply got up to 2 hours.
It’s different to my other usual patterns. Most odd.

Esmay Sun 10-May-26 05:12:09

I had a busy day yesterday and felt exhausted at about five .
The Cough began .
One of the cafes was still open and I sat in it sipping tea and trying to stop coughing .
The air felt dry and dusty .
Anything seems to trigger it off .
By the time I got home - I felt horrible .
I've slept for several hours and have been awake since four Watching Charade on TV .

Doodledog Wed 06-May-26 05:48:19

I’ve been trying not to pick up my phone when I wake up, but have had another run of bad nights’ sleep. The pattern seems to be that I sleep for around four hours then wake for an hour or so, then, if I can get back to sleep I get another hour, but that’s not a given. My watch records sleep patterns, including restlessness, and if I get the extra hour it’s usually very restless.

JamesandJon33 Wed 06-May-26 03:11:24

I ‘ve had three reasonable nights, but woke up just after 2. I always find something to worry about, however small.
Will roam around GN for a while and then try to sleep. Quiet day tomorrow so no problem .

Saturn Wed 06-May-26 02:42:05

I am wide awake, think I am over tired. So much on my mind. I will read for a while & see if I can get back to sleep.

HelterSkelter1 Wed 06-May-26 02:09:32

After a few days of sleeping through the night here I am wideawake..
I had a covid jab yesterday afternoon and am pretty achey. So will take some paracetamol and maybe make a cup of tea.
I watched a documentary about the resue of the Thai children trapped underground in 2018 in flooded caves. What braveey shown by the divers and the young boys as well. I will make tea and read. Hopefully go back to sleep soon.

Esmay Tue 05-May-26 08:03:58

Another broken night .
I watched a repeat of a programme that I'd seen during the day and had a hot chocolate with chocolate biscuits .
I did manage to drift off for another couple of hours .
I've looked back and recall that these poor nights seemed to started overnight with a bout of illness .

Has anyone else had a similar experience ?

TheSunRisesInTheEast Sun 03-May-26 22:45:26

Dawn? 🌅

I hope you have a good night's sleep tonight 😴.

Being awake through the night is affecting my days, I have no energy and keep dozing off in my chair. I wish I could stay asleep in bed and wake up at about 8am to be awake until the evening when I go to bed.

HelterSkelter1 Sun 03-May-26 05:25:28

Wideawake here, but slept quite well since 10.00 so not a bad night. Theres no rhyme or reason to good nights and bad nights. Oh well. A cup of tea I think now.
Happy Birthday Nannytopsy. A mere chicken at 70. Have a great day.

I hope I am the only one awake and all are dozing. It's twilight out there. I think of the evening as twilight but I dont think there is a specifically morning word? So twilight it is.

TheSunRisesInTheEast Sun 03-May-26 04:38:42

Good morning, Nannytopsy, happy 70th birthday 🎂 🥂 🎁 💐 .

I laid on the bed after a day out yesterday afternoon and slept for a couple of hours, now I've been up ever since 🙄. I'm now getting tired so I'll go to bed. My body clock is all over the place due to sleepless nights.

Enjoy your birthday celebrations 🥳 🎉 🎈 x

Nannytopsy Sun 03-May-26 04:27:34

Morning! I was so tired that I came to bed at about 10.30 last night and now I’m wide awake. I’ve done Wordle and been to the bathroom so I should try to get back to sleep. It’s my 70th birthday today - I really don’t like that figure at all! We have a visit from my DB & SIL, plus about 20 friends for drinks and a buffet lunch, so I need some more sleep. Here goes …

Esmay Fri 01-May-26 06:31:05

I was awake for most of Wednesday night and felt terrible yesterday .It was hard to get anything done.
Last night was better ,but I've woken up with a splitting headache .

TheSunRisesInTheEast Thu 30-Apr-26 19:50:53

It made me cry too 😥. Lots of love 💐 x.

Happy 60th birthday, son, love always, Mum xx

Thank you, it made me cry but it is just what I want to say, especially including his dad ❤️

Celieanne86 Thu 30-Apr-26 11:49:32

I’m sitting here with my son’s 60th birthday card and gift (it’s a book about the 60s ) and I’m so tired my brain has stopped working and I don’t know what to write in either of them.

Happy birthday son, no that's on the front of the card together with his name and a picture of a glass of Guinness. No verse inside the card plenty of space to write a message, help !!!!

I love my son dearly but he’s a grown man and I don’t think he would appreciate a load of sentiment also he is retiring from his high powered job this week so I suppose his cards will be on display.

It gets worse, my husband, his dad, died recently so this will be the first card without mum and dad written and he’s bound to feel emotional so I don’t want to add to it.

All and any suggestions would be gratefully received as I’m certainly losing what little sleep I have over this.

BTW I won’t be seeing him on his birthday as he lives some distance away and my legs don’t work anyway 😰
