Sunday roast back on the menu again!

Since Christmas I have not cooked a roast.

It’s just me and my lovely husband and we have been on a healthy eating kick.

I have so missed it, I love all the preparation, the smell in the kitchen even the steamed up windows.

I always have a cheeky glass of wine, usually poured when I’m at the gravy making stage.

Today is roast pork with swede and carrot, roast potatoes, broccoli and green beans.

I will use leftovers for a stir fry.

I can’t wait.

Are you roasting anything today?

Sunday food is exactly the same as Monday Tuesday We……for me, I have no specials

We always have a Sunday roast.

Beef, gammon, chicken.

Not lamb or pork.

DH does it, I cook in the week.

The leftovers serve us Monday and possibly Tuesday.

Cottage pies, casseroles, curry, ….

Gammon and veg followed by apple pie and custard here today. Mr C will be a happy man.

I cook a roast dinner for the family about once a fortnight. I think it’s the most enormous faff these days, especially timing it right and remembering all the small touches (Wot! No apple sauce?). I often say to myself I’m not doing this again, but then seeing the pleasure it gives them drives that down. Plus they always clear up and load the dish washer!

Being on my own I get the prepared versions of Sunday roasts , but have enjoyed them in Hotels when on a coach trip, or even visited a pub with a good reputation for Sunday roasts , the average eat out is about £15 depending on the courses you have with it prices vary .

No, because of a family get together we’ll be eating out, at a SE Asian place.

But I do often make roasts, we love them - and I don’t see that they’re necessarily unhealthy. Lean meat, lots of vegetables, OK a few roast potatoes - I love Yorkshires but never make them since mine never turn out well.

I cooked Sunday roasts most weeks for 60 years, it became routine and was never a faff for me.
I did carry on after my H died but gradually it dropped off and now is probably every six weeks .
I do love it but find timing more worrying and my small appetite means I don’t get the same enjoyment as I did.
I think it is dying out generally though.

Roast beef here today, my favourite meal of the week.

Cook a roast most Sundays, apart from the summer when DH will BBQ.

I rarely cook a roast.
Today it maybe a fish pie or salmon done in the air-fryer.
I hardly made Sunday roast even when my kids were little as I recall how Sundays were a rest day except for my mum who slaved in the hot kitchen all day Sunday, even on the hottest days.
I didn't get why we had to have all that food- full English breakfast followed by Sunday dinner- Yorkshire Puddings for starters then a mean piece of fatty brisket with roast and mashed potatoes, watery cabbage and carrots, a bit of stuffing if we were lucky.
Them mum would start baking for Sunday tea; Victoria sponge, coconut macaroons, butterfly buns and often apple pie which would be eaten after salmon with salad and other cold meat, cheese and then tinned mandarin oranges with carnation milk.
By tea time after being holed up in the house all day under each other's feet the tea-table became a battleground where everyone fell out and my mother would erupt after her day slaving in the kitchen!
Sunday roast? No thanks.

Roast chicken this Sunday. I've got some spiced red cabbage and a homemade stuffing out of the freezer and we'll have roast potatoes, parsnips and broccoli as well. We've still got masses of bramley apples left so I might make an apple crumble for OH. I don't always cook a roast at the weekend but when I do I like having the leftovers to make a lunch or supper and with chicken, the carcass to make a stock.

Even when I was a child back in the Dark Ages, we hardly ever had the Sunday roast at lunchtime. My folks thought it broke up the day too much.
When I do make one, it’s always in the evening.

Same as CG, husband mostly does ours and I cook through the week. Love a Sunday roast, today we are having roast beef and all trimmings the left over beef will be either used by me or sliced and frozen for another day ( of my choice ).

A few months ago my GD and I were shopping on Sunday and whilst out popped into M&S food hall and picked up a large chicken , ready made stuffing, ready to cook roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese,
With fresh veg to prepare it was so easy and so delicious.
It cost I think just over £30 and served 4 very well.
We repeated it once more buying beef instead of chicken and also Yorkshire puddings , that cost a bit more but again, for a treat, it was very good.

I make a Sunday roast most weekends, (we eat it at about 5.00pm) but not so much in summer, when we have something lighter or a BBQ. All the family love a roast and we have our sons and their families round every couple of weeks. For me, there's nothing nicer than a dining table full of family all chatting, drinking and tucking in.

In the olden days dinner on Sunday was at midday as most of the servants had the evening off. Cold meat and salad was left for the family.
Now I might do a roast when the family is here or rather slow cook beef or gammon. With roast veges

I haven't done a roast since last year. Christmas roast turkey to be precise. I don't usually bother if it's just the two of us, but got a small joint of beef out of the freezer last night. I plan to make some Yorkshires and cauliflour cheese as accompaniments along with roast carrots and potatoes. We eat early evening.

I cook a roast dinner once every 2 years when it’s our turn to host on Christmas Day. That’s quite often enough!

I do like a toast, but we rarely eat a roast on Sunday, just because we are not in any particular routine eating wise.

We stopped it as a routine when the children were small, and we always had a family day out and didn’t want to be impeded by having to prepare etc a roast.

Have never really picked it up since.

My favourite meal I think. Won't be having one today as DH has hospital appointment in an hour but we often have one during the week if we fancy it. We do a joint big enough for 4 and keep half for a second meal a few days later. If we do enough veggies we make bubble and squeak and warm up the beef slices in some gravy (Bisto).

I do love a good old Sunday roast, even if it’s just for me.
Leftover veg is used for soup
or bubble and squeak and meat is used in curries, hotpots etc.
I don’t often buy a whole joint apart from chicken. Today I have a pork shoulder steak in the slow cooker but the rest of the meal will be traditional.

I love to cook and eat a roast. It happens about once every 3 or 4 weeks here. We also love cold meat, fried potatoes etc with salad and or pickles on a Monday.

Our favourite is pork. I gave been doing a Sunday Roast for so long that I find it one of the easiest meals to cook.

I too find it so easy to cook I can’t understand why anyone would buy ready prepared veg etc.

We eat around 6-7, so it’s oven on prep the meat, parboil potatoes, chop veg this takes 10-15 minutes
A couple of hours later Itake meat out to rest, put in the roasties, cook the veg and start the gravy whilst drinking a robust red!

This is around 30 minutes.

I certainly don’t slave all day!
