This ghastly person and his gang seem to be everywhere in the news.
It's utterly depressing.

The Epstein case has suddenly become far more serious with the revelations about Peter Mandelson's involvement, the documents revealing his leaking of sensitive cabinet information while he was Business Secretary and in effect Deputy Prime Minister to Gordon Brown. The personal emails between Mandelson and Epstein show what an unpleasant pair of people they were, both attempting to exploit the other.
Which raises the question again about Starmer's lack of judgement and disregard of advice to appoint him as Ambassador to America. Also his refusal to answer questions in Parliament about the situation.

Casdon Tue 03-Feb-26 07:43:03

The main focus in America currently is on the Clintons MayBee70. They have now agreed to appear. A further request has also now been made for Andrew to appear, and also for the first time, for Mandelson to appear. There is a definite push for more release of papers, the redacted information is what will nail those who are currently still flying under the radar - the media there is hugely concerned about lawsuits, so they are being very cautious pending more information. This is definitely going to be going on for years.

I do think that what has been exposed politically for the UK goes far beyond Mandelson. He was corrupt, and will no doubt end up in prison.

It’s naive to assume that Starmer’s judgement is worse than that of any other government leader though. The question we as a country should be asking is why is so easy for any minister to sit in a cabinet meeting and relay live information about government decisions to foreign powers. I highly doubt this was a one off. I highly doubt that it only happened in that period.

My reading of news articles is that the focus in America is on their citizens, Clinton, Trump and more.
Our press is interested in AMW, encouraged no doubt by the bare faced lies it’s increasingly clear he told about his involvement with Epstein’s. Add to this the information about Sara Ferguson and Epstein, including her taking their 19 and 20 year old daughters to visit him within days of his release from a prison sentence for sexual offences against a 14 year old girl.
Mandelson - now likely to be investigated for offences in public officee, linked to Epstein. Very serious for Mandelson and for beleaguered Keir Starmer

Sarnia Tue 03-Feb-26 08:07:21

Can Sir Keir Starmer strip Mandelson of his Knighthood? If so, then he needs to get on with it. He should have chucked him out of the Labour Party weeks ago but left it until Mandelson deigned to go. Despite mealy mouthed words that he was just a friend it seems there was much more going on between him and Epstein.

Casdon Tue 03-Feb-26 08:11:36

No Sarnia Starmer does not have the power to strip Mandelson of his knighthood. I posted the rules yesterday. The quickest route other than a new act of parliament is for him to voluntarily step down from the Lords. - but he will still be called Lord Mandelson.

I think this post from Sky News hits the nail on the head.

‘Full' Epstein files won't be released until Trump leaves office, says lawyer
The controversy surrounding the Epstein files "will not go away" until the full batch of documents is realised, a US lawyer has said.
Dave Aronberg, the former state attorney for Florida's Palm Beach County, told The World with Yalda Hakim that around two and a half million more documents were being withheld.
"Those files contain important information. And I don't know if we're ever going to see it, at least not while Trump is in office, because it contains the internal memos from law enforcement, the FBI, prosecutors, internal memos," he says.
"We want to know the names of the alleged co-conspirators. And somewhere in those three million pages are those names."’

This revelation about Mandelson 'allegedly' sending government information to Epstein, and receiving payment, if proven, was that treason?
Mendelson was 'allegedly' sending sensitive information at a time of financial crisis to a person in a foreign country, the USA, and this person, Epstein, had alleged links to Russia and Israel.
An ex-Reform politician was recently jailed for such a crime.

MaizieD Tue 03-Feb-26 08:26:52

Mandelson doesn’t have a knighthood, sarnia. He is a peer, which is higher up the pecking order as it allows him to sit in the House of Lords (drawing what Mandelson must surely regard as an insignificant allowance of £300 per day) and taking part in the legislative process.

Knights can’t do that.

Maremia Tue 03-Feb-26 08:29:00

Casdon, thanks for that insight.
I wonder, if the Dems win the midterms, would they then be able to force full disclosure of the documents in the Files?

Casdon Tue 03-Feb-26 08:29:08

I think it is classified as espionage Maremia, isn’t treason when you plot to overthrow the government?

Maremia Tue 03-Feb-26 08:31:34

I am never sure of the distinction. Thanks Casdon.

The ‘payments’ which we know about seem to date from earlier than the disclosure of confidential government information. Though, with something like 2million papers to work through there may be fresh revelations to come.

I never thought I would find myself thinking this, but, I am beginning to feel sorry for the PM.

He must dread the newspapers everyday, with all the negativity and skullduggery being linked to Labour.

As for Lord Mandelson I was aghast when he was made the U.K. Ambassador to USA, nothing good was ever going to come out of the appointment.

It just shows incredible bad judgement on behalf of the PM’s advisors and their investigative abilities unfortunately the buck stops at the top and that is Sir Starmer.

What I don’t get is why were photos taken?

Perhaps they were from security cameras, apparently Epstein had them everywhere.

Smileless2012 Tue 03-Feb-26 09:21:11

What's the point of a Congressional Investigation into the Epstein situation when so much information has been redacted from those already released, and there are a further 2.5 million that are being withheld?

The only content that should be redacted is the names of the victims.

The only compromising photo's we've seen are of Andrew and Mandelson. Are we supposed to believe that there aren't any of the other men involved?

Out of the possible 100's of perpetrators why is it only Andrew whose named? What's the point of questioning the Clinton's and demanding to question Andrew when these files must surely contain all the evidence and information that's needed? confused

Maremia Tue 03-Feb-26 09:38:09

If they are 'busy' investigating Andrew and the Clintons, that takes the heat off the other suspects.
And that is probably 'the point'.

Casdon Tue 03-Feb-26 09:46:42

Congress want to know everything that might impact on the government of the USA, and information they feel is necessary for them to do so is being withheld by the DOJ. It is simple, in the sense that they want to interview everybody against whom there are clear allegations. We have huge implications arising from this in the UK, but I don’t think they are anywhere near as huge as they are for the USA.

Elegran Tue 03-Feb-26 09:48:31

I am splitting hairs, GrannyGravy, but the Prime Minister is Sir Keir Starmer, not Sir Starmer. No need to use his full monicker, but it is one bit or the other - Sir Keir or just Starmer. Foreigners get confused about it.

We can all make typos, my iPad thinks it knows better than me 🤷‍♀️

CariadAgain Tue 03-Feb-26 10:00:53

For those of us that don't use titles - he's had the same name all along, ie Keir Starmer. Makes life easier and if he gets in a strop about not using that additional word = tells us all we need to know.

AGAA4 Tue 03-Feb-26 10:01:08

It can be frustrating that the heat is full on for Andrew MW and Mandelson while other guilty men are still hiding.
I believe they are being shielded in the US as there are some names they don't want to be exposed.

Smileless2012 Tue 03-Feb-26 10:23:37

It's very frustrating AGAA4 and IMO is why Andrew shouldn't agree to any interviews and any demands to do so are out of order while America clearly protects its own.

foxie48 Tue 03-Feb-26 10:26:48

The news is about Mandelson, Andrew and Fergie in the UK, in the US the news is currently about Tisch, Lutnik and Musk etc also obviously there's a lot about the Clintons agreeing to testify. If you don't know who Tisch and Lutnik are it's because you are not American and/or you don't follow American news. They are far more news worthy than an ex British prince and his wife and someone who was American ambassador for a few weeks.

Maremia Tue 03-Feb-26 10:36:00

I will have to look them up foxie48.
