I feel all this disgusting news that surrounds ‘ Epstein’ has eroded my faith in government..all the lies and scandals

The shame that had been put upon King Charles it’s such an embarrassment for Britain and when does it stop?

eazybee Thu 05-Feb-26 18:09:15

That speech this morning was appalling. Apologising for men in power who deceived him with their lies. And he a barrister.

King Charles isn’t snowy white either. He wanted to be a tampon. There’s a saying all power corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It does make you lose faith.

To his beloved no more than your husband was to you

Bea65 Thu 05-Feb-26 17:31:20

mae13 agree its untenable but who should replace him???
Have no faith in any of them ...so utterly utterly depressing

Starmer 'apologising' for being taken in by Mandelson's lies is very, very unconvincing.
Surely all the raised eyebrows and background whispering when he appointed Mandelson as ambassandor to the USA should have rung alarm bells?
But I think Starmer must have known at least SOMETHING well before he gave Mandelson the appointment.

The British public have been assumed to be village idiots and treated with contempt by a weak - and yet arrogant - PM.

His position is untenable.

Siptree Thu 05-Feb-26 16:51:44

It shows a lack of judgement that Starmer even considered Mandelson for US ambassador. He was sacked twice previously to any of the Epstein association became common knowledge.

I don't think King Charles (or anyone really) disgusting adultery with another adult can be conflated to sex trafficking the underaged.

This from one who disapproves sex before & outside marriage. Biblical.

NOT the same at all.

Agreed, totally different, Norah.

It says more about those investigating and publishing private, intimate messages too.

Allira Thu 05-Feb-26 16:11:15

but was replaced by Mandelson.

Her term as Ambassador had come to an end but she did stay on longer than she needed to.
There was an interim Ambassador, as far as I remember, before Mandelson.

Allira Thu 05-Feb-26 16:09:09

Oreo

The post of Ambassador to the US isn’t usually given to a ‘has been’ politician but to a top civil servant.
I can’t remember her name but the woman appointed to that position was by all accounts very good in the job but was replaced by Mandelson.

The very experienced Dame Karen Pierce, a career diplomat.

Ambassadors, like Civil Servants, are supposed to be impartial
and serve whichever Government is in power.

Iam64 Thu 05-Feb-26 15:54:11

I agree Norah, absolutely no comparison between a tapped phone call between consenting adults and organised sexual abuse and financial crimes

Will look out for Marina Hyde's article, thanks Susieq62.

I do think that many solid, hard working MPs ( of which mine is one) are appalled by the behaviour of a number of people in power.
Let us not forget the abused women named in the Epstein files. The key word is NAMED! I am waiting for other photos to emerge showing who else was enthralled by this odious, devious human.
Marina Hyde has written an excellent piece in The Guardian on this subject, well worth a read as it is balanced yet thought provoking .

Welcome Basgetti, I have seen your posts elsewhere.

Actually, it has turned out to be a 'good thing' that Mandelson was Ambassador to Trump, and here's why.
If he had been just some 'has been' politician, his name would not have stood out, in the way that it has, at this point in time.
We possibly would have missed the details of his betrayal and treachery. With millions of documents to explore, many of the disgusting criminals will get away with it.
Mandelson is in the full glare of our scrutiny now. And he will pay for what he has done.

Starmer is in danger now over the Mandelson issue. This is leaving the door open for Reform which would be a disaster for our country.

Looks like it's going to be Angela Rayner as Labour's next leader. Guess that means she's served her time on the naughty step and it's thought they can bring her back on stage.

Oh boy....

Still think we should have proportional representation - as otherwise we're left voting for "the lesser of all evils". In some parts of Britain at least that means some of us are left having to vote for "whoever has the best chance against one particular party". Which, thankfully, leaves me voting liberal these days - though it's the same political party that has got in every time since I moved to Wales and they get a pretty overwhelming number of votes - but I live in hopes...

WoodLane7 Thu 05-Feb-26 15:11:31

I never thought in my lifetime I would see anything as far reaching as Operation Yewtree which arose from the Jimmy Savile scandal but the Epstein affair looks set to have even bigger repercussions. I really can't see how Starmer - the self styled "Mr Rules" who was going to stamp out corruption and is now up to his neck in sleaze - can survive; bad enough that he knew more than he let on but trying to limit the publication of information about what exactly he did and didn't know makes it all look even worse. The question isn't will he fall, it is will he bring the rest of his government with him? he is not a good leader but when you look at who might end up running the country instead things could get even worse. Buckle up folks, it's a rough ride ahead with, I suspect, a lot more fallout still to come!

Doodledog Thu 05-Feb-26 15:05:35

Who are you 'just saying' was best buddies with Jimmy Savile?

Junoesque Thu 05-Feb-26 15:00:58

No, but there again he was best buddies with Jimmy Saville who was given a free pass to Buck House. Just sayin’ !

Oreo Thu 05-Feb-26 14:44:20

I used to think there were just a few bad apples (MP’s) but now I think it’s the other way around and there are just a few good apples.

sandelf Thu 05-Feb-26 14:04:17

It's not just a UK problem - read Politico or other non UK media - there's scandal all over the place about his dealings. Hilarious how some of these poor fellows were too mean to pay the ladies or get themselves their own hotel room. Great for the ever helpful Jeff - who was taking the film/photos?

specki4eyes Thu 05-Feb-26 13:59:57

After all the lies and cheating an incompetence of the preceding shower of clowns and power hungry idiots, I thought (hoped),we might be safe with Starmer...knighted, former barrister, head of CPS, seemingly honest, normal etc etc. But of course it's one big fat NO to all that!
Clearly his motivation was to suck up to that other asshole across the pond (also a member of Epstein's cabale).
When are we going to get people of real integrity in charge of our country?
I had just paid my huge UK tax bill when all this blew up...bitter? Of course I am.

Is there no one on the planet who is in a place of power, either super rich. a leader or politician, who has any scruples
or honour? I find it all very depressing.

Me too…utterly depressing 😢

Bea65 Thu 05-Feb-26 13:53:27

Welcome Basgetti 😀 to GN and confirming your credentials - although you didn’t need to…there are some very fiery GNs on here and TBH, NO-one really knows the person behind the comments on here…
