A late good morning to you all.

Sending best wishes to you and your family, Marydoll. A very worrying time for all of you 💐.

I hope, too, that anyone else suffering ill health or nursing any worries see better days ahead soon.

I’m all stretched out after Pilates this morning and now need to stir myself to get some housework done.

It’s bitterly cold again with a cold wind making it feel worse and the sky is still grey - will the sunshine ever come back? This weather doesn’t inspire me to get out and about, so to all of you who do, well done. I wish I could find the motivation.

Take care.

Good morning from the west midlands, another dull, cold day here today. However, walking around the garden, I can see pockets of Spring-springing; huzzah!
Sending my best wishes to any Gran's out there feeling poorly or worried. I afraid that this dire weather is not conducive to either health or happiness. Ohh and it will soon be lunchtime. 😊

Good morning everyone from windy Lancashire. The howling winds are back even louder. MrB has been out to secure the bins and has informed me it isn’t safe for my walk at the moment. We will see what it’s like after lunch.

I hope your DiL is improving Marydoll, she has really been through the mill. The stoma will allow her to heal and hopefully can be reversed once it’s done its job.

Best wishes to all who are struggling with life at the moment.

Wishing you all a good day, whatever you’re doing.

Good morning from a wet Co Armagh
Tuesday night I couldn’t sleep, between coughing and the loud rustling wheezing from my chest . I dozed in my chair all yesterday morning but rang the surgery and got antibiotics
Was told , there’s a lot of it going around
Another wet day here and no relief in the forecast !
Another of our Wednesday Club ladies is going to be 90 in March , plans for a wee party are uncertain as it’s in the middle of Lent , Easter is early this year
Thinking of all our ill friends here , and hoping MD s daughter in law makes a full recovery quickly 🙏🏼

Thinking of Marydoll and her family and the fgts

After yesterday’s welcome sunshine we are back to grey and dripping - the whole country must be sodden by now, and the forecast doesn’t offer much respite.

Singing yesterday was enjoyable and today I am visiting a former neighbour in a local nursing home. She may be chatty and reasonably with it or away with the fairies but either way she likes my neighbour and me to go and will chastise us for not having been sooner. An afternoon reading will be my reward.

Thinking of MD and her family, the FGTs and all our tribe who are having a hard time during this endless winter.

Good morning everyone from yet another wet and dreary Northampton day, fed up with this weather and no sign of any sunshine on the horizon in the long range forecast.

Yesterday morning was.very busy and I had lots to get done made all the more.difficult from hobbling about on my painful knee.
There were the bins to put out, the cats' litter tray to deal with, and then a Sainsbury's delivery and also the dishwasher to empty plus the slow cooker to wash from the day before.
I then had a quick lunch before.getting ready for my lift to the well-being cafe, knitting bag in hand. It's ages since I'd been and there were many new faces. Did some knitting, then the quiz, but mainly sat and chatted.

Not going anywhere today, but will have a quiet day of catching up on everything at a very slow pace because of my knee. I have already decided not to go to dance classes tomorrow.

Had a very nice call from a fireman yesterday to arrange a home fire safety visit - they will inspect the house, advise on (and sometimes fit) smoke alarms and discuss escape routes. They will be attending in the fire engine, so I had better warn the neighbours!

Glad to hear that Marydoll's Dd-in-law had the.necessary surgery and hope she makes a good recovery.

Wishing all the best day.

Good morning from Stockport.
Very late this morning as after a bad night I slept in and still feel very grumpy.
Sainsbury’s here soon so must make an effort.

My friend at yesterday’s visit was so difficult that I realise I must make the decision on how to cut down contact, at the moment it is weekly, but I must start by trying to think how I can do it every other week.
I don’t need to be upset by her.
I don’t want to cut it out altogether as I am the only person she she sees apart from occasional visits from her family which are not regular.
She has no friends at all and only speaks to neighbours on a strictly need to basis.
I just tell myself as we are both 88 it won’t go on forever😦

Both GS’s are here at the moment as the brother who the younger one lives with at present is ill.
Best wishes to all with illness and troubles and prayers for MD’s DiL.

Good morning from Cloudy Chambers northwest coast. The pressure dropped and the heating didn’t come on this morning. Ok now. I don’t know why it drops, I didn’t have this problem before the combi boiler and I need ch, I’m the last road in the sand dunes facing the Irish Sea!

Good and busy day yesterday. The lunchtime recital was impressive, kicked off by an eight year old playing Bach on the cello😳 A bit of necessary shopping and in the evening to the opera co rehearsal where I am dithering between first and second soprano. First can be too high and second too low…
Afterwards for our usual get together at the local wine bar and a good time was had be all. Late home.

Housework and card making today. Thoughts to all poorlies 🌺

Susan56 Thu 05-Feb-26 09:30:12

Good morning from Shropshire.Heavy rain and blustery at the moment.

Yesterday’s physio was rubbish. He wasn’t a physio but a first contact? He treated me as though I was a 20 year old with a sports injury and I felt rough all day afterwards🙄We had a nice few hours with DGD.The principal of the dance school came to talk to me saying they have had their eye on her and would like her to join a couple more classes. It is a great compliment but not for me to decide.DD will go and speak to her at some point.

I didn’t wake up until 9 this morning.I have been very stressed about mum’s house but I think now we have made a plan of action I feel more relaxed.

Marydoll, your poor daughter in law has had such a terrible time.I hope her recovery goes well from now on🙏🏻Thinking of you all.x

Wishing everyone the best day possible🌻🦩

Good morning from a windy NE with a forecast for more rain.
I spent yesterday in my pyjamas and resting in bed after severe stomach pain during the night.
Sister didn't visit as she had to wait for a delivery, a meat order from a farm shop. She will come today and I will get some food shopping.
Thinking of Marydoll's DIL, I am another who has had this operation so understand what she is going through.

GillyMo Thu 05-Feb-26 09:15:12

A late good morning from a grey and rainy Kent.

From the window I can see the catkins on the hazel - a sure sign that Spring is around the corner.

Today I will be babysitting for DGS. It is very tiring but also a privilege. I'm thankful that I can cope with the physical demands of looking after a toddler.

Wishing all happiness and strength today.

Doodle Thu 05-Feb-26 09:10:56

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 5° and wet. Marydoll what a terrible time your dil is having. My best wishes to you all.
Yesterday I didn't make it to the school library in the morning. I was on a go slow! I did potter about before meeting art friends for lunch. We had a lovely lunch and blethered for four hours. At a table nearby was someone I recognised i thought. I went over and I was right. She is a lovely lady who was a secretary at the school I taught at. It was nice to see her.
I was still full later so just had soup for dinner. Last night I was up about 4 times which I blame on the coffee I had at lunchtime. Today will be a quiet day, mainly to let my feet, legs and hips recover from 4 hours sitting on a hard chair. Lots of moving about gently in the house. Dinner will probably be macaroni cheese, baked in the oven. Have a good day all.

madeleine, our new, temporary, agency manager is a woman - Teflon man is the area manger and her manager..

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 05-Feb-26 08:25:30

Morning all from a wet and windy West Oxfordshire.

Yesterday’s WI coffee Morning was fun. The cafe owner took our photo to put on her Facebook page. I look like a deer caught in the headlights!

OH and I didn’t have our outing after all. He had a bad night due to his restless legs syndrome. So we stayed in and I listened to two of my V&A lectures.

We are going out today for lunch. We have some Christmas tickets from one of our favourite restaurants. They have to be used in the next week. We can’t open them until after the bill arrives. We will get a free meal, 25% off or 50% off.

I will listen to the final V&A lecture this afternoon. I think it’s on Tudor architecture.

Have a good day.

I’m thinking of MaryD and her family and the FGT2S 🌹

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s just getting light and looks dry. No sign of if warming up yet though, it’s only 3°
Hoping your DiL recovers well marydoll, poor girl
No definite plans yet for today, it’s still too cold for gardening so I think DH and I will go for a short walk somewhere and maybe lunch out. I’ll see if I can think of somewhere different to go for a change
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Liberty Thu 05-Feb-26 08:08:21

Good morning from the now usually dreary dull Suffolk after a welcome few hours of a weak sun yesterday.

MD I hope your DDinL is settled after what must have been a traumatic day for her and all of you yesterday.

I have my stretch class soon and then, after posting a parcel,a quiet peaceful day at home. Hope all have such a day amidst whatever activities are planned.

madeleine45 Thu 05-Feb-26 08:08:19

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a wet and windy morning in North Yorkshire. As I am a bit later this morning I can at least see the branches of the tree waving about against the grey and wet sky. If the rain eases off I might get my bedding on the line later, but shant hold my breath.

Yesterday turned out to be a day of pleasures, with jobs left and ignored. It was bitterly cold and I was struggling to even walk about never mind briskly. Being market day, I would have needed to go on the buggy as no parking for cars. Looking at my shopping list, I decided it was far too cold to be out in the open air on the buggy, and nothing was really desperate . Looked to see what I could take out of the freezer for a meal, and no inspiration at all. Plenty of things needed doing but I was just having one of those mornings where I couldnt raise the energy or the effort to begin anything.

Then looked in my local paper and had ringed the cinema in Thirsk, as they were showing Hamnet, and as luck would have it they have a matinee on wednesdays . (Think that comes from the old ways of having a half day on wednesdays) You can book seats in advance but also just queue and pay as you go. So that galvanised me into doing some basic housework, making a short list of shopping to pick up whilst in Thirsk and then went very early. I cant manage to walk from the normal parking area and there are two or three spaces along the street from the cinema, so went early, taking my new Makaton work book with me. So I was able to park, and sit for about 20 minutes , practising my signing and reading a bit ready for the next lesson.

Then I went and joined the queue, which was quite large. Obviously the weather had made many other people think the same and there was much meeting of friends in the queue and then in we went. The cinema is a very old Ritz cinema with a ground floor and a balcony, just like the one I used to go to as a child. It cost £6 and they even have a loyalty card, which they stamp each time you go and after nine films you get one free. It is all run by volunteers, and the only thing missing is the usherette with the icecream and the light to shine on the back row couples!! I thought it was a very good film, well made and very worth seeing. Also as most of the audience were about my age a very decent audience. No phones ringing, talking, rustling bags etc., so tick tick for that.

I came out and went across to the bigger Tesco with the intention of now getting my bits and pieces, but no chance! They only have one disability scooter and it had only just been taken out, the lady on the desk informed me , so I couldnt know how long it would be. Gave up on that idea, but called into a nearby shop to look at some flooring as I still havent got the hall sorted out. That was worth the looking and has given me some ideas to follow through. So then I went to a chinese takeaway and bought something to eat (always have the trusty picnic set with me) and then off to the whist drive, where for once I was an early arrival and so had the pick of the parking places. Enjoyed the evening, no prizes and no especially brilliant hands, but it was a pleasure to be there and so my rather miserable start to the day turned out to be a very good day.

Today I have a sore throat and a cold. Nothing terrible but have two meetings I need to go to and hopefully the cleaning lady will be here. I have already made a note to ask her to look for my wretched glasses as she goes and put a jar of beetroot out to remind myself to ask her to open it, as I cant! If it wouldnt have made such a mess I felt like throwing it to the floor in a temper, when I couldnt open it after much trying with openers towels etc etc!

So this evening I hope for small miracles , to see everywhere tidied and the bed made with the lost glasses found and the beetroot jar opened! We shall see. I will then be happy to spend a quiet evening recuperating from the day.

Hope you have a good trip on the bus Mick. I expect you are looking forward to the cycling on the winter olympics about to start now. GrandMattie hope the new Teflon man finally gets something done. It does sound very odd that those few windows were missed out. RoseandLilac hope your tablets arrived and can help a bit. Marydoll, you have had such a hard time and I hope all goes well with your DIL. Good that the young curate went to see her, and I hope Babydoll improves soon and that it is nothing catching so that you can remain as well as possible and get to the hospital soon. Thinking about you and your family and wishing that the problems ease and you can get some rest.

I wish everyone an easy and calm day if possible today and hope that those in flooded areas dont get too much more rain today. At least if it is windy it might help to dry things out a little. Hope the signs of green and growth coming through cheer everyone to look forward to some better days.

Good morning from another bleak and damp Black Country. Although the sun did make an appearance yesterday afternoon.

My friend called round yesterday morning with a card and present for MrJ then we had a walk into town, and coffee in a recently opened cafe.

Mum went to the Day Centre yesterday, where I had arranged for a Hairdresser to visit. I had to video call her in the morning as I knew she would forget to be ready for when they picked her up in the mini bus. She enjoyed the day, but no idea what she did there and if she had her hair done, which she obviously had when I saw her on video in the evening.

Walking group walk today. The forecast isn't too good so it will be a shorter one.

So sorry to hear about your DIL Marydoll, sounds horrendous. Sending my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Gingster Thu 05-Feb-26 07:59:36

Good morning all and it’s wet, windy and miserable here in Essex. After the lovely day we had yesterday.

Dh went with his old school pal for brunch at the golf course , where he used to play before the stroke. They enjoyed sitting looking over the course but no one was playing as it’s waterlogged.

I met my old school pal for coffee and a therapeutic chat for a couple of hours, which really brightened me up.

I’ll go to DD’s today. She’s really no better and now has a very sore mouth and throat. She’s finished the antibiotics which didn’t seem to have any effect. What to do now!
I’ll pop into the chemist to see what they recommend.

Grandaughter still staying with us and she’s really no bother at all.

I hope those struggling fine an easier day 🌱

Greyduster Thu 05-Feb-26 07:56:05

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the weather forecast is a work of fantasy again. Three wonderful choices are laid before us: light rain, heavy rain and - eight centimetres of snow!! Take your pick, folks. As none of them offer the prospect for a walk today I shall stay put.

Writer’s group yesterday was fun, and from there, I decided to call the car out on its chicken licken low oil message and see how much oil I actually had. In order to do this, you have to drive for half an hour, so a seventeen mile drive through thick fog later, the car revealed that it was, in fact, three quarters full! A dipstick would have shown me that in minutes! I was beyond cross, but relieved at the same time.

As I look like being more or less housebound today, I shall address the matter of the button band on the cardigan I have been knitting since Adam was a Lad!

Have the best day you can, folks.

GrannyIvy Thu 05-Feb-26 07:55:19

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where another cold wet day is forecast.

Pilates class today and a lunch with an old work friend whom I haven’t seen for ages.

Marydoll thinking of you and your family 🙏

Hoping the day goes well for all.
