.......BBC News website trumpets.

Eh?

Slow news day at the Beeb, so it seems.

Who the hell is this Molly Mae character anyway? Some connection with the Epstein/Mandelson pantomime?

CariadAgain Fri 06-Feb-26 05:07:05

I cba with "celebrity" news.

To me I tend to think any "celebrity" news = another bit of "bread and circuses" for the masses and it annoys the heck out of me (as I've rarely even heard of these "celebrities" and am all too aware they are "just another person = so what?".

I want/expect the news to BE news and not about some person who regards themselves and/or is regarded as a "celebrity" or "royalty (aka "celebrity under another name")".

Every time a person is bigged-up like this my reaction is "Sigh - it's another person and no more important than any other person. Now what IS actually happening in the news they're trying to distract us from?"

M0nica Fri 06-Feb-26 08:15:37

Who?

Sarnia Fri 06-Feb-26 08:17:12

M0nica

Who?

Some girl from Love Island. Congratulations but why should it be national news?

ROMILO Fri 06-Feb-26 08:52:39

I think she is one of the clones. You know the ones that have blonde hair extensions, false eyelashes, fat lips, a permanent tan, and melon sized breasts that are famous for doing nothing. I could be wrong.grin

Pretty lass - advertises Persil/Comfort on TV.

Fallingstar Fri 06-Feb-26 08:57:23

Is her husband any relative to William Hague?

Fallingstar Fri 06-Feb-26 08:57:39

No idea who she is.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 06-Feb-26 09:00:11

Fallingstar

Is her husband any relative to William Hague?

No her partner and father of her first child and this pregnancy is the boxer Tommy Fury.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 06-Feb-26 09:06:26

And their supposed separation was I believe a publicity stunt as she was launching a new business venture.
My GD and her friends were mentioning it all at the time.
They are both in the “famous for being famous” brigade.
No talent but that, I have no talent myself but sadly I haven’t become a millionaire because of it.
She is very pretty and he comes from a travelling family , somehow related to a boxer.

Fallingstar Fri 06-Feb-26 09:07:33

Ah, don’t know him either.
Not really into boxing though.
A bit dense when it comes to sports.

eazybee Fri 06-Feb-26 09:20:26

A piece of news that cheered me this morning was that ski -jumpers in the Winter sports are being investigated under suspicion of injecting acid into their penises to enlarge them, thus enabling them to wear larger ski suits which adds to lift-off confused
It adds to the gaiety of nations, I feel.

keepingquiet Fri 06-Feb-26 09:24:29

If it isn't even news then why make a thread about it?

Usedtobeblonde Fri 06-Feb-26 09:28:28

easybee love it😉

My husband is forever asking me who is so and so, even I don't know most of the time, just another gormless over pumped up, over paid idiot who has risen to fame for no particular reason tends to be my response. I only know of this woman because, subscribing to Amazon Prime, an excerpt of her programme came automatically flashing up a while back where she relayed with wide eyed wonder, these snippets "there so much going on in my life right now and I might be moving in with Tommy" oh wow that sounds like a load of totally facile bollocks whoever Tommy is what's unbelievable Prime have commissioned a series about her. It's the world we live in unfortunately.

My husband, having been up for an hour before he delivered me a beside coffee this morning having had the opportunity to scan the papers on line with these comments "Brooklyn Beckham's removed some tattoos relating to the family, Harry's got a bar of chocolate, some woman called Molly Mae's pregnant, who the hell is she? anyone would think there's nothing more important going on" goes off muttering "must subscribe to the Times on line so I can escape this rubbish" "yes you do that, you might swerve the Molly Maes, but the Beckhams will still be there, even the Guardian has written articles about them anyway stop getting on to the Mail on line you know you hate it!"

Like a moth to the flame though sad

BlueBelle Fri 06-Feb-26 09:50:47

I only know her from washing powder adverts and said in front of my grandsons girlfriend I m sick and tired of that molly Mae popping up smelling of roses on the tv, my grandson laughed and said carefull ——- loves MollyMae !

Not ‘a bit of a lad’ as much as a violent man then.
Sorry to call this out but I hate to see apologists for violent men calling them a bit of a lad or saying boys will be boys.
And am not referring to his boxing career but as Bluebelle says his violence outside the ring, if this is even true that is.

Luckygirl3 Fri 06-Feb-26 10:03:53

She's [robab;y an influencer, whatever that is! confused

Grantanow Fri 06-Feb-26 10:09:58

Who and so what?

Doodledog Fri 06-Feb-26 10:19:36

Does it matter if a story not everyone understands is on the BBC website? It will be of interest to someone, and those who do know and care about it have as much right to read stories that interest them as we do. She probably appeals to a younger demographic, is all.

I've never really understood why people seem to take pride in not knowing things. 'Bread and circuses for the masses' grin What does it take to step out of 'the masses'? Not knowing about popular culture?

JamesandJon33 Fri 06-Feb-26 10:41:07

I know of Billy Fury.

I don't get this either - I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in most 'celebrities' either, but even I've heard of her. I think some people believe that saying things like that almost sends out a signal that they're somehow 'above' such trivial nonsense.
And yes, there are far more important things going on in the world, but today's news is all about clicks on websites and mentioning the likes of Molly Mae does indeed mean that a younger demographic are far more likely to visit your website. That's how it works these days.

I know of Billy Fury.

Oh yes! Halfway to Paradise 😀

Actually, I think this young woman suffered with endometriosis so perhaps she wants people to know that pregnancy is possible even if a woman has that condition.

Otherwise - no idea why it is news.

shysal Fri 06-Feb-26 12:36:08

I think it is news because she has been separated from Tommy for a year, so wonder who is the father.
I skim over the news page on my laptop, usually only reading the headlines. It is nice to know a bit about popular culture when chatting with the adult GCs.
I mentioned Katie Price to a friend the other day. She had never heard of her. How could one not even know who she is?

TillyTrotter Fri 06-Feb-26 13:07:47

Molly is an Influencer and fiancé Tommy Fury is a Boxer, brother to Tyson Fury also a pro Boxer.
They met on the reality show Love Island in 2016 .
If anyone is interested ..
