Anyone else sick of this winter? Here in North Wales we've had over a month of firstly snow then fog and now day after day of heavy rain.
Looking forward to spring.

Strangely, I haven't found this winter too bad, though I usually can't wait for it to be over.

I'm not sure if that 's because it genuinely hasn't been too bad here in our part of Northamptonshire (I think we have had at least a couple of decent day's weather every week), or if after a year of horrible stress, I have had other things on my mind and simply haven't dwelt on the weather as much as I normally would.
It's probably a mixture of the two.

The only weather I really dislike is very hot weather. It can be as cold and wet as it likes, so long as it isn’t hot! I actually dread summer.

keepingquiet Fri 06-Feb-26 21:18:49

How can anyone like this cold wet dark and dreary weather?? It is driving me nuts and yes, we had a few weeks of ice last winter but at least we had some sunshine too!

I can't remember a winter as grey wet and cold as this one- ever!

Every day I look at the long term forecast and every day its the same for two weeks to come.

At least the winter olympics are starting so looking forward to that to cheer me up!

That,ll. e the global warming they,ve been talking about for decades….wetter weather ,flooding etc.We get much less snow than when I was younger in fact we,ve hardly seen snow so far this winter.Winter will often hang around until snow in April or even early May .

Well, it's filling the reservoirs. Better than standpipes next year.
Always look on the bright side.
😀

Do you remember Monty Don saying with climate change we would end up with more of a Mediterranean climate?

He forgot to tell us about the floods in Spain.

😀

Also plenty of flooding and coastal erosion.
I would rather do without water than do without sunshine...maybe I'm weird?

I think that even after all this rain there will be water shortages if next summer is hot and dry.
Maybe not enough reservoirs now for the increasing population.

I love winter and suffer summer. Yes, it's wet at the moment but yesterday my eight-year-old grandson was outside his house playing football when torrential rain started. He came in eventually, laughing and saying, 'I love the rain Nana.'

Well, we cannot do without either in fact.

However, you'd think, with all the warnings we've had for years about wetter, stormier weather becoming more frequent, that we'd have done more to prevent flooding and save water for dryer periods.

We're just not as clever as beavers, are we.

I love Winter, just love it all. The way the landscape & trees look, the recipes, crunchy frosted grass and seedheads and the flocks of swirling birds. We are forecast some thunder for later and I'll be in my element!

AGAA4 Sat 07-Feb-26 11:57:30

I usually prefer winter but this one has been hard here in the hills.
I've struggled with days of snow and ice. I can't chance going out with my dodgy hip. It's been foggy up here most days and not pleasant for walking or driving.
Now we have endless heavy rain . I am just trying to dry off after being soaked yet again.

I wish it was so poetic here. Mud replacing grass, spring bulbs looking soggy and half-hearted, as if they really want to go back inside themselves.
No birdsong either here- fields waterlogged and crops suffering from the constant seepage of the soil.
The landscape caught under endless cloud with no chinks of light, I'm really struggling to see anything here but the option to stay indoors and eat!

Think we’re all just waiting for some spring like days. I retired at Christmas and really have just hibernated! Not a good start but a warm one inside!

Gran22boys Sat 07-Feb-26 13:39:07

It’s so wet here there are puddles everywhere. I’ve never watched so much TV. Every winter I think why don’t we go somewhere warm and have finally decided that we will do that next year as we can’t stand much more of this. The greyness is so depressing.

Shinamae Sat 07-Feb-26 13:44:12

I just love winter weather, always have, maybe it’s because my birthday is in February. 🥶🥶
Wind, rain and cold even,I can always wrap up against the cold not much I can do when I’m sweltering in the summer heat…

JamesandJon33 Sat 07-Feb-26 14:12:19

I love winter weather too. Probably because Iwas born in the winter !

Casdon Sat 07-Feb-26 17:34:08

I don’t think that’s it. I was born in February too, and I can’t stand the winter. Humans are not designed to thrive in the half light, which is what we’ve had for the last month plus.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 07-Feb-26 17:43:38

I can cope with the cold of winter as long as the sky is bright and blue.

It’s the never ending grey days, the half light when you need lights on all day. I find these sort of days so depressing.

Marilla Sat 07-Feb-26 17:52:51

I love winter too. Yes, some winter sunshine would be welcome, but I feel comfortable in winter and can walk much further and enjoy activities much more.
I do suffer in the hot weather and of course balmy days are lovely, but it tends to be too hot and so uncomfortable.

Hate winter with a vengeance cold, wet, grey, dull, boring and dark gp three quarters of the day
I was born start of MarchKeepcalm and still hate winter
I need warmth and light and sun to feel happy

RosiesMawagain Sat 07-Feb-26 18:17:58

At the risk of stating the bl**ding obvious, if this was to be your or a dear one's last winter, would you wish it away?
We may not enjoy the weather, but we are alive and able to enjoy it or moan about it if we choose.
But let's not wish our lives away.

Casdon Sat 07-Feb-26 18:29:36

There is absolutely nothing to criticise in people longing for better weather RosiesMawagain. I’m sure all of us would wish it had happened today. That’s not the same thing as wishing your life away.

Another one whi likes winter, My house is warm and comfortable, my xandkes are burning.
I have also been out in the rain, I went for about 2 hours, called in to a cafe for a coffee and went home. I love my winter clothes as well.
