Happy birthday to MrJ 🎂🍺

Grandmabatty Sat 07-Feb-26 08:33:04

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 5°and wet. No surprises there. madeleine it is good to see you posting but I'm sorry that you are unwell. Bellasnana Winston is a lovely cat.
Yesterday I spent the day in bed. I did get some washings done and dried but that was all. Of course, I slept for ages and the effect of that, was I didn't sleep well last night 🙄. I was up and down all night hence the late arrival here. So no nap today! I need to reset my sleep pattern. I'll get the housework done and tonight I'm babysitting the boys at their house for a couple of hours. Have a good day all.

Good morning from a wet W Kent where I haven’t bothered to get up yet. I want to go into town but not sure if I will. Otherwise a very quiet day ahead.
My little deaf group was interesting and chatty
madeleine sorry to hear you are laid up with one of the many viruses doing the rounds, hope you feel a little better as the day goes on
Best wishes to all

Good morning all.

Dh is hoping to go to footie today but I think he’ll be disappointed again. 7 weeks since he and ds1 saw a match.

I’ll take DGD home for the weekend. She’s been an angel but needs a couple of days with her family and sleep in her own bed.
Dd slightly improved but sounds like she’s had what Madeleine has. No cough though but sickness, weakness, can’t be bothered to read , watch tv or make phone calls. Nearly two weeks now.
Horrid viruses going around.

I’ll have a lovely afternoon watching the Winter Olympics .

Take care all.🌱

Good morning everyone from still another wet and dreary day in Northampton. When will it end?

Did not go to dance yesterday morning, but ventured out in the evening to a rugby match - England - Wales under 20s. Got soaked on the way to the bus stop but it had eased off by the time I got to the ground. Met DD and her DH, got a lovely mulled wine, found our seats and enjoyed the game which England won 19-16, very close at the end. Watching the stars of the future maybe; quite a few youngsters from our Northampton Saints academy in the team.

Going to try and get to the shops this morning, there's a few things I need before next week. Then a quiet day at home, Six Nations Rugby on tv this afternoon, and the Saturday newspaper.

Wishing all the best Saturday, thoughts with all those coping with difficult times. flowersflowers

Hello. I hope I can join you 🙏. I recently joined Gransnet to get information about my forthcoming hip replacement op. It’s wet and dull where I am too (West Lothian). I’m going for a ‘spa day’ today with DD2 (Itison voucher), which in reality is lunch, a glass of Prosecco and the use of the hotel pool and sauna but it should be fun and hopefully the sauna might help my sore hip 🤞

Welcome GemmaMack 👋

GemmaMack Sat 07-Feb-26 08:48:56

Thank you ☺️

Grammaretto Sat 07-Feb-26 08:53:23

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. It's wet and dull but the birds are ignoring it so so shall I.

I just have to find flowers for my wee vases and take them across to the open house Saturday café along with the cake I made yesterday.

I have a house to view later this morning. If I fall in love with it in this weather I'll buy it on the spot!

My Friday night dinner party was 4 of us around the fire. One of my past helpers came, as she's back near Edinburgh helping at a farm having been to Japan in between.

I finished knitting my sweater and wore it before sewing in all the ends

I hope MrJ has a great birthday
.
I hope Madeleine and Bella's DGS are better soon.
Thinking of the MDs and the FGTs

Hoping everyone has some joy today.

Good morning all from my but of Leicestershire (about 4 miles from dragonfly) where it is currently dry.

Today is a quiet day after the excitement of last night when we went to see DGD3 in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. She was brilliant - of course.

Thinking of people with worries, pain or sadness in their lives and hoping everyone has the best day possible.

hollysteers Sat 07-Feb-26 09:02:43

Good morning from a brightening milder northwest coast. I’m still having pain in my neck and shoulders and didn’t go to art yesterday morning. A pity, as I was looking forward to making valentine cards. I’ll make them here.

I managed to get to the hairdresser in the afternoon, priorities insisted the grey roots must go, but it was a struggle.
Neck feels a bit better today so I hope to get on with things awaiting.
Started watching Bridgerton last night, trashy, but visually good.
Thoughts to Madeleine FGTs and all🌺

Good morning all from a wet Glasgow, where it is 7°C.
We have had daily rain for weeks, I'm so tired of it.

My diverticulitis has kept me up all night, its probably the stress of DIL's illness. It was so painful, that I was in tears, but DH, as expected, slept through it all.

Yesterday's exhausting day didn't help.
I had planned to go early to Silverburn and have a quick look at the sales, but DH's two hour call to British Gas, put paid to that. I could not trust him leave him to deal with it on his own.
I was hovering outside his study, because he had waved me away.
He was becoming more and more flustered, because he couldn't hear a word, that the foreign agent was saying.
Eventually, I could bear it no longer and took the phone from him and put it on speakerphone.
The look on his face was priceless, when he realised could now hear every word.
Scottish Gas wanted to increase our direct debit by £150 a month! He was getting nowhere, even being asked about our soure of income and did we require a payment plan to manage our payments. "We are in CREDIT!! and it's the winter period."
DH was furious and rightly so, informing her, that we had never been in debt in our lives

She hadn't reckoned on DH's record keeping and multiple spreadsheets, which had details of meter readings and complaint numbers for years.
I won't go into all, the details, but it involved me climbing under the stairs to read the electricity smart meter.(DH couldn't remember, where it was!)
As soon as he advised the agent of all the previous complaint references, he was immediately transferred to an English lady.
When DH mentioned the Ombudsman, she was falling over herself to assist.
The result, we will continue to pay what we have been paying, with a small increase, requested by DH.
How do people, who are not savvy, deal with this?

My trip to Silverburn was very brief, my priority was to see DIL. and I needed to get back. TKMAXX's profits are definitely down, due to my absence.😉

We managed to get the last space in the hospital car park, almost at the top of the hill and a disabled one into the bargain.
As we entered the hospital, we bumped into DIL's parents. They spotted us, I was too busy scrabbling for my inhaler. That hill is a killer. Surprisingly, they have stepped up to the mark, trying to make up for years of neglect and lack of support.
They advised us, that they had only stayed a short time, DIL was exhausted and frail.

DS was with her, I was so glad to see him, because he is spending so much time at the hospital.
We too, only stayed ten minutes, DIL was so frail and exhausted, with tubes inserted everywhere.😪
I noticed she had bright red lips and asked what was wrong with them.
She had put tinted lip balm on, she must be improving.🤣

When we got home, I fell asleep after a late lunch, I didn't feel too well, it is taking so long to get over the labyrinthitis,
DH suggested a takeaway, to save me cooking, however I knew it would be a waste of money, my stomach would protest.
I feel sad and beaten, by all that is happening in my life. This is not like me to feel sorry for myself..
Babydoll is unwell too, like her daddy, an asthmatic with everything that comes with it. The other grandparents looked after her yesterday, I couldn't have done it.😔

DD and SIL are popping in this morning, they are going away for SIL's birthday and I wanted SIL to pick up his gift.
DD is a woman with mission. She is going to lecture DH on the benefits of changing energy providers. I wish her luck.🤣

Susan and Bella, I hope your grandsons grandchildren have a better day.
Sar, I hope your DGD is responding to her biologics.
They were a life changer for me,

Madeleine, stay in bed and look after yourself.

Corner, I love cheese, but DH hates it. Your fondue sounds like nectar to me. I had a home made goat's cheese tart, which I think may be partly the cause of the problem with my stomach. 😊

A gentle day for me, I feel quite unwell.
Have a good day folks. X

Good Morning everyone from the East Coast a few minutes ago it looked like blue sky was peeping through but it’s grey again.

We are looking after our DGDs this afternoon so we will take them to soft play GD1 is quite good at looking after her little sister and making friends so that may save us from creeping through tunnels and clambering over rope bridges. We can relax over a cuppa.
When DD is home they are staying for dinner and she will bath the girls. DH is making pasta and salad.

Yesterday DGSs mother sent a pic of him with a star of the week badge he’d won at school. He was looking so proud. He really has had a great week at school. It was number day and he did all the number puzzle the fastest in his unit. We are all so proud of him. Fingers crossed we get a great week before half term.

Happy Birthday MrJ
Welcome GemmaMack

Wishing everyone a day with moments of joy🌼
Thoughts to those with family worries and struggles with health💐

A late Good morning from Stockport.
Grandmabatty if there is a magic trick to sorting out your sleep pattern please pass it on to me.
I was out with a friend yesterday, just a coffee and a chat but I was tired Whalen I came back and fell asleep for at least an hour and a half consequently I slept badly and large so I feel the pattern will be repeated today.
I realise I have never felt well since a vital infection in December and have also come to the conclusion that we just don’t pick up the older we are.
Nothing on the cards all weekend though so I will just go with the flow and suit myself.
Enjoy the day the best you can.

Feelingmyage55 Sat 07-Feb-26 09:55:16

Good morning from a seriously wet north of Scotland. Just in from the supermarket shop and reading your tales over coffee. I enjoyed the olympics opening ceremony last night, some lovely music and lots of enthusiastic athletes.
Best wishes to all especially those with health issues.
I am going to be an armchair sports commentator this afternoon.

GemmaMack Sat 07-Feb-26 10:01:57

Thank you for the welcome, Whiteswan 😊

Good morning everyone from sunny Lancashire.

The storm has finally abated and the wind is back to its usual level. to gMrB and I have enjoyed a circular walk around the Dock. It felt so good to get out again.

I hope you can get some rest Marydoll.

Best wishes to all who are struggling with life at the moment.

Wishing you all a good day, whatever you’re doing.

Good morning from a dull Co Armagh, rain isn’t far away
Watching bits of the Winter Olympics , while having a decaf coffee to recover from my shower ! I nearly went back to bed , this virus is no joke ,
I had my head under the shower before I remembered to take out my hearing aids , they seem none the worst! 🙄
These athletes are great to watch and the scenery is so spectacular too , but I’d better get a move on
Wishing us all the best day available , and hugs for the poorly

Cressy Sat 07-Feb-26 11:40:58

Madeleine. Have you tried gargling with a paracetamol solution. Soluble tablets are obviously the best but failing that you could crush a couple of tablets with a spoon. Having typed that I can remember my mother doing that for me as a small child and adding milk to the spoon. It was probably anadin in those days which would explain why I have stomach issues now. 🫣😏

I think soluble aspirin is what is recommended as it acts as a local anaesthetic and any swallowed will help bring a temperature down
