Good Morning Monday 9th February 2026
(45 Posts)Good morning from a damp Bristol. It poured during the late evening and night. More of the same to come for the next week or so. It is milder though.
Nothing much today, Tesco with my neighbour, hygienist in the afternoon and aWI committee meeting in the evening. I don’t know why they want me there, as they are all close friends since always, and don’t really do much business.
Best wishes to fgtand everyone. madeleine and bellas, I hope your throats are improving.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
Good morning Mick and others, from Polmont where it's currently 5° and wet. When will this infernal rain stop?
Yesterday I managed to achieve quite a bit of my normal weekend chores so felt better. Dd popped in with soup and yet more washing to dry. I've one load done.
Today is early childcare day. I'll drop off the boys at school/nursery then home for a nap before picking them up later. Last time feeding dgs2 dinner. No doubt he'll want chicken nuggets. He's a boy of habits. I will have gammon and cauliflower cheese with broccoli and green beans- the same as last night. Ds sent numerous messages with photos of his dinner preparation. He was making a roast dinner and seemed to have umpteen dishes. He said he'll be eating it all week. It is nice to have such regular contact but I wish he would contact his friends. Have a good day all
Good morning from Malta where a fine day is forecast with a high of 15°C and the wind getting up as the day goes on.
I’m up early as I have DGS2 this morning. Tomorrow is a public holiday here so DD3 isn’t sending him back to school until Wednesday although, thankfully, he’s a lot better.
I had a surprise call from my friend as I was getting dressed yesterday asking me if I fancied a coffee. I warned her about my germs but she wasn’t bothered so I walked up to the village and enjoyed a catch up.
It was a beautiful day so we wandered down to a new supermarket that has opened. Nothing special. Our area is very well off for supermarkets, I don’t know how they keep afloat and this new one has nowhere to park so not convenient at all if you’re doing a big shop.
I’m feeling much better thank you, still coughing but I’ll survive!
Had a lovely FaceTime chat with DD2 in Nashville yesterday. I do miss them so much. DGD was doing community work with her softball team then they were having a sleepover in the indoor training facility. Everyone had to bring their own blowup bed. It looked like my idea of Hell but, thankfully, DGD is an extrovert and loves it!
Well, I had better stop waffling and prepare for DGS2’s arrival. I wonder what he will want to do today!
Hoping you all have a good day, get well soon to the poorlies.🤗
Good morning from s somerset, endless rain and lots of it again today, another route is closed due to flooding. FB has its uses with local knowledge
I did go to the allotment yesterday, wrapped up warm and took my pacamac and over trousers, which I put on as soon as I arrived, they did come off for 20 minutes and then on again. I did the jobs that were bothering me, chopped green manure, prised roots, covered the beds in cardboard and then with weed fabric. Took energy and was good exercise. I did 3 beds and can now sit back while nature does its thing
I was soaked through when I got back and spent the day in cosy warm clothes, I had made the trousers, called sunday trackies, from warm fleece-lined cotton fabric.
Today, gosh I have no idea. I quite like these days, just to go with the flow, cosy indoors while the rain batters down
Have a good day
Good morning from Durham. After a bit of brightness yesterday, it descended into pouring rain later. I had such a busy weekend and was hardly off the roads. Still dark here now, but I can hear the rain. Everywhere is saturated.
Today, I have a traumatic dental appt. It’s been on the cards for months - I’m dreading it, but resigned that it has to be done.
I’ll return to read this thread later and hope there’s been weekend improvement for some of our posters.
Best wishes to all. X
Good morning from Kent where it is seven degrees, cloudy, with rain forecast for this evening.
Yesterday the soil was too wet to dig. I admire people who use the no-dig method. Sounds like you are doing that on your allotment karmalady. I was brought up by keen gardeners with the idea that weeds should be pulled up. I guess that notion has stayed with me.
Watched some impressive snowboarding by the women competing in the Big Air in the Olympics.
Today will involve watching some more Olympics and then a trip to the library.
Happy Monday all.
Good morning all from a dry and mild North Leicestershire.
Today I have a very long overdue hair appt.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning, wet as usual here in soggy south Glos., it truly is getting very monotonous and tedious now.
Yesterday I restarted the virus shawl I’m crocheting, it’s complicated for me who generally sticks to straight forward granny squares! I need to concentrate on this one but hopefully it’s going to work out eventually 😁
A fairly humdrum week ahead, if only we could conjure up some sunshine!
Take care everyone 🌹
Good morning from a dry (so far) and dull Black Country. Luckily it didn't rain yesterday, but it was again so gloomy!
MrJ's appointment didn't go as planned! After 90 minutes he rang for me to bring him home as they weren't doing the procedure today. Apparently the Nurse flagged up an irregular heartbeat. The Consultant thought it probably wasn't a problem but he needed to consult with an anaesthetist and as it was Sunday one wasn't there. So it's a letter to his Doctor today, and hopefully a re-arranged appointment soon.
Line Dancing today with my friend.
Wishing you all the best day possible. Hope your appointment goes well Georgesgran FGT's
Good morning Mick and all GN's on a very dark, still morning in North Yorkshire.
I am struggling this morning. Another horrible night, waking up coughing and sweating and not able to get back to sleep easily. One good thing is that my throat is not quite so sore, have to hang on to that. All in all I could really scream this morning, if it wouldnt make my throat worse!! I had hoped that I would have improved enough to go to my Makaton class this morning, but no chance. It is so frustrating, as these classes are very popular, and you have to do all three classes to gain the certificate. Having to miss today, means that I will have to go back to the beginning, and start again and dont know how long I shall have to wait. Well I can practice on my own and read the manual while I wait. But this means that it has wasted a space in this course. I also had met some interesting people on the course and had looked forward to making more friends and contacts.
My goals for today are now narrowed down to very basic things. I have to wait for the painkillers to give me some help and then I need to change my bed and have a shower and wash my hair. Thats it! Still if I can do those two things I will feel better I know. I have always enjoyed the simple pleasure of getting into a clean bed, where the sheets have been dried outside and smell lovely. If I won the lottery I always say I would have clean linen sheets on the bed that had been dried outside and have them changed every day! Last of the big spenders thats me.
I have run out of cereal so it may be a porridge making morning today, Might be quite soothing to eat. It may set me off on a porridge run. I seem to eat the same thing for a while and then get bored with it and go off onto another thing. Still only eating soft stuff at the moment. I make quite a few of my own soups , but keep a few decent tinned ones in for such times as this and have to say that I have been glad to have some decent Baxters ones in.
Have watched a bit of the ski ing etc and was sorry for the woman who was hoping to become the oldest winner and had an accident. In ski ing it must always be a calculated risk to keep going. Other than that I have avoided all news and such things and been glad to listen to Private Passions and Gardeners Question Time, which give me more pleasure and less likely to raise the blood pressure!
Ah Bach before seven is about due, soothes and cheers my spirit, even though I now hear the sound of rain on the windows again. Well I shant be going out in it anyway.
Hope you have a good trip into Bicester Mick. GrandMattie, thankyou for your good wishes and hope that your shopping trip is short and your meeting tonight has some good results. Bellasnana glad to hear you are improving and at least you have some decent weather to be able to go out for a little while. You are a good advert for living in Malta , with your sunshine and better temperatures, Wish I had a Tardis so that I could magically leave the cold and damp here and have a little sunshine! Well I have my Bach and fingers crossed, I might actually be able to taste my coffee this morning, which would be good. If I ease up a bit after my shower, I have my grabber and will try and pick up various things that have ended up on the floor and which I cant pick up, much to my annoyance.
I will come back later and read more posts . Hope that you all have a decent start to the week, and that you all are dry in your homes, with no flooding issues. I expect, despite all these floods and water, the wretched water companies will be bleating about a drought in summer. Ah well , lets concentrate on a reasonable day today, and no frustrations to add to the problems . Enjoy whatever you can today
Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is dark and looks a bit damp at the moment. We were forecast a dry day today but of course nothing is certain except death, taxes and weather forecasting.
Yesterday I had a lovely lunch with DD and SiL at one of the pubs in our valley, but it was full as it always is in a Sunday and very noisy. As it was dry, DD and I then left SiL, who has a badly bruised toe, in the house and we went for a walk. It was our intention to do a round walk through the reed bed, but three quarters of the way round the footpath was completely flooded and even two folk in wellingtons were struggling to move through it, so we turned back. Still a good walk though, and very welcome.
Today I will go to the gym and then if it does turn out to be dry, clean the inside of my car and put some air in the tyres.
Have the best day you can, folks.
Good morning from S E Essex it’s 7° and rain is forecast.
Off to the gym first thing, then a catch up day as little was achieved yesterday.
(((Hugs) for our morning friends with illness and/or troubles 🙋♀️
Gillymo I don`t use any gardening method, only my own instinct. Basically I leave worms and fungi to do the work, the cardboard will rot down and the weed fabric protects the soil being leached by the rain and hence losing its nutrients
Good morning everyone from a still dark Northampton, have no idea what the weather is like as I haven't looked out yet. I think more showers are forecast.
Up early because it's yoga first thing.
Had a quiet day at home yesterday - well, apart from having to fix my laptop which had somehow gone off line, as I found out when I went to print off my holiday details and couldn't open any emails.. It involved a bit of googling on my phone and then a complete reboot and then success! Keeping my fingers crossed...
I read the Sunday papers and.listened to a lot of catch-up programmes from Radio 3, then cooked a chicken crown for my dinner, which was delucious. Plenty of leftovers.
Some tidying up after yoga, vacuuming upstairs and various odd jobs.
Wishing all a pleasant day.
Morning Mick, morning All from a wet and getting wetter corner of Somerset.
A very cheerful weather forecaster explained why no real change is anticipated for another two weeks. With so many local lanes unpassable moving around is a challenge for many along with an ever present fear of homes being flooded.
Yesterday was good on the whole. We’ve agreed how to try to change our living room furniture. I had a therapeutic hour pruning roses and pulling weeds before a short walk inspecting the river. Stress from a call from our goddaughter disappeared during and a flying visit from a son who was two hours into a 6 hour drive from the south west to the north east. Always a joy to see him.
Today we’ll head out to look at furniture reality which in common with most of our ideas is unlikely to resemble the theory. Breakfast first courtesy of an about to expire voucher.
Good luck with the dentist georgesgran, hope the appointment is far less difficult than you fear. Thinking of all with mountains to climb.
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning from Sheffield
Well we did our mammoth walk yesterday. It was very pleasant. We had taken a flask and sustenance and had plenty of stops and caught the bus back from the city centre.
The only problem is I couldn’t get to sleep . I likened myself to a small child that has got overtired and didn’t know what to do with themselves
So this morning I have prayer group at my church and then I will be working this afternoon .
A quiet evening as there is a football match which DH will be going to
Take care everyone
Good morning from Stockport.
I can’t report on the weather as I am still in bed and haven’t looked out yet.
A disturbed night but that is my usual now.
My S is 56 today, he doesn’t have an easy life so no celebration, just another day.
It is a great sadness but nothing will change.
I am going out for a bite of lunch combined with shopping with a friend later.
I hope to choose curtains for my little snug.
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Broken cloud this morning, and I can see the moon, so clear in places. It must be mild out as the heating has gone off already. More rain later I think, so I’ll go for a walk when I’ve had breakfast.
A weekend spent mostly watching the Winter Olympics, so I must move a bit more today.
My garden is too soggy to do anything useful, but there are crocuses coming out and a few daffodils are fighting their way through the weeds and violets. There’s a lot of moss on the “lawn” so I really ought to try to aerate it to improve drainage.
marydoll I hope your DDil is beginning to feel a little better.
I also hope that all the sore throats and coughs are improving, such a lot of nasty bugs about.
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning from the usual damp W Kent, more rain later I think
Cleaner this morning and then a clear afternoon.
Best wishes all round
Good morning all.
The weekend flew by with lots of Olympics watching. I picked up DGD to bring back for another week. Dd is so down with this virus which doesn’t seem to be leaving her.
Today I’ll go to my Chimes group for a bit of fun and merriment, back for lunch with dh and then pop to see Dd.
I’ll pick DGD up on the way home.
Take care in this weather.☔️
Good morning from N.Bucks. The weather doesn’t deserve a mention.
Pleasant lunch yesterday and then a visit from two DDs and two DGSs. DH says thanks for the birthday greetings.
Nothing of note to be done today so we’ll see how the day goes. Hope it’s a good one for all.
Good Morning everyone from a dry central south coast. Looks as if we might get a better day, fingers crossed.
DH has booked a hearing test at last, after denying that he has a problem. It is this afternoon and he has been asked if someone with a familiar voice (i.e. me) could go with him. So we will see what happens. I do find it a strange request though and had assumed that he would be listening to sounds and pressing a button when he could hear them.
Ironing awaits me this morning and I must review the fridge etc to see if we need top ups of anything fresh. Probably need bananas and salad.
Everything in the news seems turbulent and unsettling at present and I do find it all concerning. It feels as if we have lost direction with nobody steering the country, or the world safely. I want to avoid the news updates until we reach calmer times but also want to know what is going on. Even the weather is joining in the troubling times.
Kind thoughts to all who are struggling and wishing for some calm and peace for us all.
Good morning from a dull Torbay but it’s not raining at present although there is a yellow warning for rain from noon.
Yesterday's service went well with the attendees and the officiating priest appreciating my piano playing. We are still in an interregnum and by Easter it will be two years since our beloved Fr. Paul left. He is much missed by us all.
Later, I caught up with the ironing before enjoying a nap which is something we both do most afternoons when we’re home. We never sleep for more than half an hour and it doesn’t seem to adversely affect our night time slumber.
I hope today sees improvement in the health of those in sick bay. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩
Good morning from Shropshire.Another dry day at the moment.
Off to mum’s today to get a quote for house clearance. My DD’s and niece made short work of packing things up on Saturday. It would have taken DH and I a week to do what they did.
Hope the dental appointment isn’t too traumatic Georgesgran. You have my sympathy.I am not good with dental appointments and have a long and difficult appointment to look forward to in the next couple of months😭thinking of you💐
Hoping Marydoll’s DIL’s recovery is going smoothly 🙏🏻
Thoughts to all and wishing everyone the best day possible🌻🦩
