That first morning cup of tea.

Nothing quite like it first thing. I usually do a little bit of housework clutching my hot water and lemon. Sit down time with my computer with a lovely cup of tea. Quite fussy about the tea bags so usually have the gold box ones from M&S. DH is very happy with the cheapo decaf teabags. How do you start your day?

watermeadow Fri 13-Feb-26 13:17:12

I start the day with black coffee and have several more until the afternoon, when I have a mug of very weak tea with oat milk. I don’t want to taste actual tea so only immerse the tea bag for a moment then reuse it next day. And the day after. I also add cold water to a mug of tea.
The water doesn’t need to boil, just be hottish.
I’m sorry if I’ve disgusted you tea lovers. Go and make a cuppa and you’ll feel better.

Twynings English Breakfast for me…….while the kettle boils I drink 500ml of water. Perfect way to start the day.

Black coffee.

After several cups of coffee, PG Tips.

Eddieslass Fri 13-Feb-26 13:40:15

Never have liked tea - so black coffee fir me at breakfast, lunch and after dinner.

Poppyred Fri 13-Feb-26 13:47:35

Strong black coffee for me with double cream. Could not drink tea. 🤮

AuntieE Fri 13-Feb-26 13:51:24

coffee with cream for breakfast.
Right now I defer it until I have cleared the pavement of snow.

I don't usually eat anything until mid-morning when I have a piece of bread and butter.

Graceless Fri 13-Feb-26 13:52:55

Strong black Macchu Pichu as soon as I wake if possible. But sometimes i have to wait for my carer to make it because I haven't the energy to get out of bed on my own.

olderme Fri 13-Feb-26 13:55:32

My late husband always brought me a cup of tea in bed every morning. Tea has never tasted the same since.

Shill29 Fri 13-Feb-26 13:56:35

I take a flask of boiling water together with a drop of milk in a jug to bed with me so that I can have a cuppa, or two, in the morning…..

Sparkycv Fri 13-Feb-26 13:57:27

I'm usually up around 5.00am, put on the radio and make my first cup of tea with PG Tips, tea bags. I open my iPad and have my first scan of the Daily Mail cryptic crossword. I then look at the headlines, and get ready for the day.

Rocketstop2 Fri 13-Feb-26 13:57:31

Cup of tea, fairly strong, dash of milk, if I don't have that, my day starts wrongly and all sorts of malevolence can occur grin

WelshPoppy Fri 13-Feb-26 14:02:10

Cornflakes or frosted flakes with banana, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries and milk. Don't have a cuppa, usually coffee, till 11ish.

Silvergirl Fri 13-Feb-26 14:06:10

I feel for you Olderme. My husband gives me tea in bed every morning and I often think how much I would miss it if he wasn't here.

DrWatson Fri 13-Feb-26 14:06:20

Yorkshire tea here, you can get a decaff version too if needed. We have a s'market 'Assam' variety too.

I've met Twinings EB (a couple of comments) in hotels, best with 2 teabags in a mug, not just one?! [NB -- hint for would-be cruise folk, if you like strong tea, lots of ships, if in American ownership, stock Liptons or similar teabags, poor, feeble things. We take our own, just in case).

B'fast is some variety of Oatiflakes or the Oatibisk things (quite like a Weetabix, except). Later on I usually have a banana, lots of reports talk of their health benefits.

merlotgran Fri 13-Feb-26 14:09:43

A mug of strong, decaff Yorkshire tea starts my day. I take it back to bed and watch Breakfast TV for a while as well as scrolling through Gransnet. I have a second mug when I’m up and in going order. I don’t always bother with breakfast. If I do it’s just a slice of gf toast and marmite.

Stillness Fri 13-Feb-26 14:10:18

Clipper organic tea and a biscuit every morning! Then, I make my breakfast and take it back to bed….every morning…..which amuses family and friends! I’ve done this forever….even when I was working and had young children I still managed ten minutes in bed with tea and toast, or similar.

Like Olderme my husband brought me a cup of tea every morning in bed. He drank only coffee, but he got mine just right every time. I probably miss that more than anything else. I rarely get up to get one now to take upstairs but it is the first thing I do once I get downstairs.

Lupatria Fri 13-Feb-26 14:18:53

no tea - never liked it. but i can't start the day without my mug of coffee made with milk. can't seem to get coffee made with water right so milky coffee it is.
accompanying this is two slices of oat and barley bread toasted and cooled spread with whatever takes my fancy - currently honey.
sometimes i do overnight oats with raspberries, sometimes on special occasions i make an effort and have warm croissants and strawberry jam.
each to his own i suppose.

Silvertwigs Fri 13-Feb-26 14:20:53

Kiwiqueen123 I’m a coffee gal, freshly made Lavazza and toast, yum

SillyNanny321 Fri 13-Feb-26 14:23:59

Large mug of very strong Yorkshire tea. Maybe a bowl of porridge or in warmer weather Weetabix. Half hour after another large mug of Yorkshire tea & I can face the day!

Nurseundercover Fri 13-Feb-26 14:25:47

I agree with you Bellasnana tea does taste better in a china cup, I’ve no idea why that is but it does.
Whilst I find coffee tastes better in a stoneware cup, always decaf for both, I don’t fair well with caffeine.

Susieq62 Fri 13-Feb-26 14:30:27

I only drink coffee, gave up tea when I was pregnant and never went back ☹️
I start the day with a coffee for me and tea with a biscuit for himself!! I have one more coffee in the morning if at home plus one decaf in the afternoon. I have weaned myself off too many cups as was hyper active..

Grandmama Fri 13-Feb-26 14:35:28

Yes, absolutely best cup of day. I wake up early and between 6am and 6.30 I make a pot of tea and return to bed to drink 2 cups, bone china of course. Unfortunately Coop 99 loose tea is not always available so I buy strong from M&S. Pale green china tea pot in bed, dark green pot mid-afternoon tea and red pot if I can't sleep and make a cup of tea in the night. Breakfast is my home-made nut, seed, jumbo oats, pinhead oatmeal and yoghourt soaked overnight, eaten with a cup of all milk instant coffee. Then I'm all set for the day smile Miss my half grapefruit thanks to statins sad

DamaskRose Fri 13-Feb-26 14:35:32

A large cup of black Clipper organic between 6.30 and 7pm. Breakfast “porridge” (don’t want to offend you Scottish grans with the additions!) and another half cup. Coffee (never instant) between 10 and 11 am. No more caffeinated drinks or I don’t sleep.

libra10 Fri 13-Feb-26 14:45:09

A cup of extra strong Tetleys tea, turn on my laptop, and watch the news on BBC.
