Computer not used quite a few hours before bed time.

Could it be reading in not very bright light
Mattress pillows sheets duvet carpets, windows not being open? Any thoughts most welcome.

Two scans were conducted but no conclusive results.

I sometimes have mild headaches mostly due to sinuses, or the room temperature is too warm.
I now have an air diffuser but don't put any oils in just water.
A nice hot cup of tea mostly clears it

Oh! I’ve just read the thread😳😳😳 sorry. But good to know I was correct😄

My first thoughts, which someone may have suggested is dehydration.

6-8 glasses of fluid a day, plus a glass of water by your bed and glugging from every time you wake to have a wee.

Give it another two weeks as others may want to have an input,I will then come back with a few answers.

Do you snore? Or do ypu have sleep apneoa? I strongly suggest you speak to your GP and say you are concerned about tge possibility of sleep apneoa. Ask to be referred for assessment

I’m sure dehydration makes me wake often with a headache. I don’t drink anything during the evening because I’d need to get up for a wee before midnight and then be awake for hours.
I don’t think it does any harm and the headache goes after my first cup of coffee in the morning.

I would reiterate the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning, especially if you do not have a gas boiler serviced regularly.

We moved house last year and our vendor was reuired to produce a current boiler service certificate. As fas as we can work out the boiler had never had a regular service since installation 15 years ago. When the service man came and serviced he boiler, he promptly disconnected it because it was emitting highly levels of carbon monoxide and it could not be reduced to a safe level. The boiler was in a cupboard between the bathroom and the owners bedroom and the wall was just one thickness of match boarding. We were very lucky our purchase was not an executor's sale.

Jaw clenching or teeth grinding.

I find leaving a window open (except when it is bitterly cold) makes it less likely that I wake up with a headache. Also, as mentioned, not being dehydrated.

Pillow will be the problem ,I have terrible headaches when I sleep away without my own memory foam pillow .Might e worth checking them out online

Agree about having air circulation. I open my bedroom ever so slightly and same with the toilet.

All of the above and I would ask if you need to have an eye test and also a dental checkup to see if if you might have an infection at the root of a tooth.

Neck problems? Do you need new pillows?

We always have the small bedroom window open a little way except during high winds. We never have the central heating on overnight.

Some good advice on here. Something to add to the discussion…crack your window open a tiny bit at night, unless you live in a bungalow.

Check your blood pressure.

Is your bedroom too warm during the night? I hope you soon find some relief.

Or too cold.

I get a headache if the room has not been warm enough during the night.

I woke up with a back of the head headache every morning for years. It disappeared within an hour. Before breakfast.
For a sore shoulder I was quite separately diagnosed with neck issues and got a cortisone injection. This relieved my shoulder pain. And no more headaches.

For me it would be either low blood sugar or dehydration but probably a mixture. I can't do the intermittent fasting diet, agony for me.

Davida1968 Sat 14-Feb-26 14:25:05

I agree with other GNs here about dehydration being a possible issue. It's easy to address this - drinking extra water costs nothing and it might be the answer. (Even worth it - to lose the headache - if you end up with an extra loo trip in the night?) I try to drink water during the evening, tailing off in the hour before bed.

Do you have gas in the house? Or a log stove? If so, do you have a working Co2 detector?

A time-regular headache may be an early warning of Co 2 poisoning from faulty appliances, blocked chimnet etc.

Co 2 sinks, so the concentration is higher and more dangerous closer to the floor. In bed at night , you're spending hours breathing in the atmosphere closest to the floor.

I stopped myself from turning over for another few minutes sleep as I found that caused me to have a headache. Now I get up when I wake up, regardless of how well I feel I have slept. Not had a headache since.

Could be dehydration. Do you feel better after you've had a drink?

My first thought, too. Also, I no longer have migraines but when I did one of the triggers was sleeping in late at the weekend ( only used to get them at the weekend) and also acidic drinks eg orange juice and some herbal teas.
