If a workman turns up as arranged and does a good job how do you feel about paying in cash and contributing to the ' black economy' ?

I still pay cash in shops, some cirner type businesses some large branded names. What's the difference paying a tradesperson in cash for a job done. How will I know if they are trading in the black economy, not all are criminals.

You would think people running their own businesses would want it paying into their bank to build up a credit rating for loans, mortgages, etc.
Anyway I am more bothered about big corporations that don’t pay taxes into our economy.
Television presenters that can dodge taxes because of some clause, or other.

I Ay my “odd job man” cash, always. Every one else, plumber etc send me invoices and I pay them online.

My “odd job man” has a full time PAYE job therefore works for me at weekends and never charges more than £100, often much less.

Petra Just for the record I will be 83 in a few weeks smile I am not annoyed about paying cash and that is what I will be doing. I was just wondering what other people thought. As has already been said I don't know how this payment will be accounted for, not for me to say.

Paying cash is difficult for me as a disabled non driver. I dont have easy access to a cash machine so I would have to arrange to get cash in advance. I find most people will accept bank transfer or payment into a Paypal account - as I do from my students. If there is a black economy it is because prices and taxes are far too high to people have to be inventive to pay the bills.

GRAPHITE
This is the UK ,you would be hard pressed to find a window cleaner who is working 6 hours a day,5 days a week for 48 weeks of the year.
You have forgotten to factor in that important variable the weather. There will be many weeks when they do not work at all and that goes for many building and maintenance workers.
Makes your 115K earnings estimate look a bit silly.
